Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Hi,woody, The Facebook group is just a small number of us (less than 20), all regular posters on this thread, who are in the group and discussing details of a meetup. If you PM me, I can get you added since you are planning to come. That’s great! I think I can add you myself but if not ,the administrator can. You can just PM me and I’d be glad to help .

dte…last infusion!!! Holla!!! Way to go girl! Hope you are feeling good!

Am still holding my breath about a meet up. Checking out the cabin tomorrow to see the progress. Still so much to be done.

Nice weekend running errands and then dinner and cards with friends tonight. H installed a new dead bolt and door knob today. Hooray! (not really his thing. )

Happy Anniversary oregon!!!

Hi all! haven’t posted in long while, but am planning a college tour with my youngest, a HS junior, so here I am back on CC. so nice to see you all have maintained such a connection, I am impressed!

how is it possible our '13s are gearing up for graduation. I’ve been trying to read through a bit to see what’s up with you and your terrific kids.

my '12 son graduated, was fortunate to find a great job and is loving his post college life thus far. such a wonderful time of life really…

my '13 d is completing her senior thesis, and like all of your kids looking for jobs, or other opportunities. my d is currently hoping to get a position with a service corps program in the states for a year, then starting grad school.

downtoearth-congrats on your last infusion. I remember what a challenging time it was four years ago. I must say, you always struck me as such a natural mom.

owlice-I gained weight just reading your breakfast offerings. how are you?

moda, kmc–you guys are such engaging writers…

shawbridge–you always bring such a wordly perspective here

where are you all meeting for dinner? I sometimes feel so stuck down here in South Florida, although clearly I should not complain this time of year anyway ;)

oregon101, happy anniversary! Hope you enjoyed your evening.

Good morning!

TA, what an absolute pain to change your passwords!!!

DTW, congrats on your last infusion. Oregon, happy anniversary.

H and I saw Silver Linings Playbook yesterday. I liked Lincoln and Argo better. H admitted to falling asleep. I admit that I spent a bit of time pondering how beautiful Jennifer Lawrence is.

I tried to edit my post about 30 seconds after I sent it, but CC made me log in again.

Anyway…

(Yes, I’m straight, but Bradly Cooper just doesn’t do anything for me.)

One of the moms I know pretty well from school has a D with alopecia. A mutual friend texted her and asked where she could buy a good wig because she is about to start chemo. We both just saw her a two weeks ago and she didn’t say anything. I guess I’ll wait a couple more weeks and check in with her, to give her an opportunity to tell me what is going on. Sounds like she isn’t readly to talk about her illness right now. If any of you who have been there want to offer advice, I’ll take it.

Added congrats on the last infusion, DTE. May your next infusion be imbibed orally, and be one of Owlice’s contributions.

(And read a food article … beet cookies? Ooookay. But somehow Thin Mints sound ever so much more appealing, though I know they’re chock full of not great things.)

My next door neighbor – who’s only 67 – just returned from Louisiana where she went to visit her new GREAT grandson. Her grand-daughter has already graduated from college and was married about a year ago. Is that scary, or what? As a little kid (probably age 7 or so) I had a living step-great-grandmother in her mid-80’s who spoke nothing but Russian, dressed all in black from head to toe, and who was most notable for whacking any young children foolish enough to get near to her with her cane while muttering at them. My neighbor is a whole lot nicer.

Congrats to DTE on last infusion!!!

Mice and mouse traps or is it mice traps?? My mother swears that a small chunk of raw hot dog, tied down with a little piece of sewing thread is very effective!

yes last infusion, 3 years this May finished treatment. Seems like a dream or bad nightmare. oesnt seem that long as it has taken me so long to recover
MP, I would send a card, expressing your concern/care and desire to help. When first got diagnosed was going to many graduation parties, knew I wouldnt hold it together , so preferred to not talk about it, until I could wrap my brain round it. BTW, she may be reaching out, because the hospitals give you info on wigs, or the Cancer society. Its awkward, “what new with you?” " Cancer" sometimes the grapevine is helpful. Meals are awesome too, here we have a thing called Mealtrain, that we are currently using for a work friend in hospice.
Owlice make me hungry, Hello Lindz glad you are back. Love you Eddie and all actually.
Not positive about DC would like to, am going in April andMay, butthe ticket prices arent too bad.

Congrats on the last infusion, DTE, and kmc on mcson’s EDM (how’s that for shorthand).

We’re seeing EDM from ShawD who was working Friday afternoon for a test on Tuesday. She also went on Saturday night on heels to a party at MIT and said she was a foot taller than the guys (she’s 6’ with heels). I told her she needed to go to Harvard or BU.

I don’t know how ShawSon is going to make it through this semester. He’s got his thesis, his startup, and his courses (though all but one are connected to thesis or startup but the one is a hard math course). He wants a little help today reviewing his application to a startup incubator. He did get into the first Applied Math Masters, but I can’t see him going at this point.

I’m in Florida and had a nice, but cold walk along the beach at sunrise, but a nicer and somewhat cool bike ride. Tomorrow, we are probably going to do our traditional bike to lunch at the far end of the next island. Plus, there is now a Starbucks there (incentive for the caffeine addict). So, my help will be limited.

We’re off to see Argo now. I did enjoy Silver Linings Playbook, not so much for the plot, but for Jennifer Lawrence. Interestingly, while she’s certainly pretty, she’s not classically Hollywood beautiful. But, she is a fabulous actress. I first came across her in Winter’s Bone, which is one of my favorite movies of the last few years. She was astoundingly good (and was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar at age 20, I think).

We saw Silver Linings Playbook last night I loved it, I do like Bradley Cooper I saw him, obert DeNiro and the director on Katie ouric, the director has a bi polar son and he had a cameo as the neighbor boy who wants an interview and takes pictures. I guess Bradley Cooper was in the New School, Actors Studio and was considered quite good there. Hard to get in.
Watched a bio on ueen today fortheir 40 th anniversary, quite good. I love Queen but actually prefer towatch them live. Freddie Mercury was such a showman. This afternoon a watching Mumford and Sons, am really liking them. we are having a snowstorm, so have made roastedchicken and veggies, soup, beef stew, and gluten free brownies. I think I am getting some energy back after the bronchitis and the infusion. I keep forgetting how old I am , but my body keeps reminding me.

I loved Silver Linings Playbook too and think Bradley Cooper is adorable!

Have fun in Florida,shawbridge.

Glad you’re getting some energy back, downtoearth. I made some brownies today too, although not gluten free. Watching the first episode of Downton Abbey. I love the music.

let em do whatever they want they are kids

Congrats dte and wishing you good health.

Haven’t seen either Argo or Silver Linings Playbook but would like to see both.

D has been home since Thurs night, her bff’s sister is getting married in April and she went to the bridal shower yesterday and the bachelorette party last night. I went to tea with some friends yesterday at a gorgeous historical mansions and they do weddings and so weddings have been on my mind…
That said, Happy Anniversary, oregon.

Getting pretty excited about the meetup (although didn’t we all tell our kids not to ever make plans with people that you meet on line? ). If you aren’t in the facebook group, send a pm to be added.

Back from the cabin and checking up on construction. Added some new updated photos on fb.

Hi lindz! Nice to hear from you! Hope you stay and play for a bit! :)

I liked Silver Linings Playbook - like shawbridge, was very impressed by Jennifer Lawrence. I think it’s the first movie I’ve seen her in (did not see Winter’s Bone or Hunger Games). But I thought perhaps the ending was a little too happy?

Really enjoyed Argo - I think it comes out tomorrow.

I changed my CC password just in case, and it logs me out while writing a fairly short message too, missypie.

Ready for another week! Here we go!

DTE, kudos on the last infusion and lotsa light! Welcome back, Lindz!
Shaw, I’d take your “cool” walk on the beach over my snowshoe outings right now  I will enjoy vicariously through you, so, so please do report your sunny shenanigans. One of my BFFs is headed to Ft Lauderdale on Wed. and was harassing me about parking my butt at a desk all week here in the great white, but I guess that’s the bed I’ve made so I’d better find ways to enjoy it! My other gf just got back from Vancouver. No wonder I’m getting cabin fever. I really have to figure out a way to take more vacation time. Except of course, there’s that whole “being here to generate billables” thing.

I enjoyed Silver Lining Playbook, although mch was kinda neutral on it. Argo was one of my favorites of the year, but each was refreshing inside its own genre. So Fallgirl, try to see both ;)

I haven’t joined up on the fb group yet, b/c I’m still trying to figure out if so-doing protects mcson’s identity sufficiently (only because I’m so candid about those jackpots he lands in ;)) but I just want y"all to know it doesn’t mean I don’t love ya! I’m likely out on the 28th though, unless I can conscript someone else into prepping the house/property for mcson’s grad jamboree. His departmental ceremony is the following Friday, generic ceremony on the Sat, and after brunch the entire family is headed to our house for said jamboree. If my work sked allows, I could just take the week off, then I’d be back in play. But I won’t know that until I see whether or not we clear a deadline on March 31st on a major project for which the client has caused four weeks of delays. I will pm one of you to join if things look more promising in that department next month.

Is my guy the only one with such an early grad? Or are you guys all sane enough not to be hosting a party in another city immediately after ;)

cq, I agree that the Silver Linings Playbook was a little unrealistically rosy (but hey, this is Hollywood). I think the story is that the director has a bipolar kid (something like that) and this is his wish for a happy ending.

I really do suggest finding Winter’s Bone – no happy ending there.

Argo was good (not great) and I saw it with Canadian relatives who thought that the Canadians did it all (the movie explains it was in the interests of the CIA to cause there involvement to be hidden).

Our graduation is at the end of May, kmc. Yours is at the end of April?

H pulled something in his back yesterday and is in misery. Taking him in to doctor this morning. I don’t think he has ever called off work so this is a major deal for him. I gave him some of my muscle relaxers and pain pills so I am now his supplier. ;)

Will catch up later!

NM, I wonder if this follows from the stress of a reorg. Best of luck.
