Son is taking a Foundations of Physical Fitness class that is apparently mandatory for every state school student. The course is almost over and Son is actually doing the extra credit to get his grade up to an A. Why, praytell, does a brilliant guy in a super-easy class need to do the extra credit to get the A?

Got a 0 for the first workout because he didn’t understand that you had to get a card and have it stamped. to receive credit.

Lost points on another workout because he didn’t see the first requirement at the top of the card.

He knows that these types of issues are “what he does.”

There really is a perception thing going on with Aspergers/ADD. When he was little, for a while my VERY ADD nephew was treated by a (quack) optician, who said that ADD was a vision problem. I don’t think it’s an eye chart vision thing, but there is something there. If you read any of Temple Grandin’s books, you’ll know that there are distinct perception issues associated with autism.

Anyway, at least he is doing the extra credit, which he wouldn’t have known to do until this year. I feel like I have a 22 year old 7th grader.

It’a detail thing… I have to be very cognizant of reading details (directions, etc). Since I know it can be a weakness, I simply have learned to over compensate so as to never miss a deadline or small step in the process (like adding eggs to a pumpkin pie that seemed to obvious to me that I forgot all about it!)

I have ordered all packing supplies and H will pick up today. Only downside to this process was I couldn’t have him pick it up AND pay for it when he does!

My work outs have been going fairly well, definitely can feel it if that counts!

Oberlin - well, I didn’t know anything about this until referenced here, and like NMN I have a pretty high confidence in Oberlin. Not sure I would have allowed it to cancel classes, but I very much like how they bought the entire community together to talk about things sometimes difficult to talk about.

Pacing and breathing deep waiting for my Zantac to kick in. Very rarely I get chest pains that are scary but I know are from reflux. No idea why I get them. Have them today but I know they will be gone in 30 minutes. Trying to distract myself. ugh…

I am stalled out making plans for the Spain trip. Need a hotel/suite in Madrid. Anyone?
My friend has suggested Tryp Ambassador or the foxa-M30. Not sure that either appeal. We are in town 4 nights but may pay for a fifth as we arrive at 6:20 a.m.

Deep breathing here too, but not for reasons as serious as NM’s.

D is supposed to fly out tomorrow morning at 8 am to begin her tour of grad schools. However, BIG snowstorm is due in the midwest this evening, with 4-8 inches of snow. Suggested – spend the night at a hotel at the airport? See if you can change your flight?

Icing on the cake: she was going to drive and park, but her car battery is dead. Says she just doesn’t have time today to deal with it (although her reasons are pretty lame in my book…) So, now she needs a shuttle of some sort anyway.

I am fine. No worries. This happens once in a blue moon and I get relief after I take Zantac, just takes a bit to kick in. I am 90% at the moment and that is great! :)

Z…snow is still coming down here but just slightly. This would be a situation where I make suggestions and then walk away and see what happens. Logical consequence thing. Hard to let them figure things out!

I am much more prone to the logical consequence stance these days.

NMN - that was my problem before having my gall bladder removed a few years back. I mostly just thought it heartburn or similar, but when I had the big attack that took me to the ER in fear of my having a heart attack, that was enough for me. Now of course, if I get any kind of seeming heart pain I definitely panic because I have no gall bladder to blame!

The prof of D2’s morning class couldn’t make it in due to the snow so instead of cancelling he actually got a sub! D2 was surprised and thought he should have cancelled since off campus kids wouldn’t be able to get in either. Funny to hear her thoughts.

Moda…hmmmm…gallbladder. I will have to look in to that.

Whew! NorthMinn…glad you’re ok!
H was supposed to fly to Chicago this AM. Changed his plans and went last night. Now no one is in the office and he’s out buying snow boots! HA!
Oh Zetesis…let us know how it works out.

Congratulations MPD, that is the frosting on the cake, Very exciting.
Shaw for a person who works in such a high powered area, it is wonderful how you are concerned about letting someone go. Glad it worked out for you.
Moda wishng you luck in staging your house and selling. The wedding is coming up soon.I have reflux or GERD, take a daily previcid. It is supposed to be helped by losing weight but it didnt change with me. At some point I will need an endoscopy to check for Barrets esophogus. have been hospitalized overnight to rule out a heart attack from the chest pain, I was embarrassed. Not treating GERD can make asthma worse.

D flew to NYC today for interviews tomorrow…and I am not particularly liking what I’m seeing about the storm, especially given that she is supposed to fly home tomorrow night.

(I know she’s there; got a text message asking how much to tip the driver who met her at the airport for the drive to the hotel. Mom is almost as good as Dr. Google, and probably better for some things. ;))

DTE – good for you for getting the pain checked out; I did something pretty similar, and while I felt stupid getting hooked up to a halter monitor for the night, how can you tell the difference between heartburn and a heart problem? On a similar note, my doc always reinforces the symptoms of stroke and the need to get emergency treatment immediately – she’s apparently seen too many patients who decided to wait a day or two to see if it got better on its own.

My instructor in ACLS said there is no way to tell so you hve to go to the ER, If it lasts more than 3 minutes go. also take aspirin not entericcoated, and chew it. even if it is adult. do not swallow whole.

H has a work retreat this week and needs to have a few game suggestions for 10 people. They played cards and Apples to Apples last time. Any fun suggestions?

always charades!
I don’t know the name of this but we play every NYD. Everyone writes the name of famous person and sticks on the forhead of another player. Each person can ask questions to figure out who is stuck on their head as long as the answer is Yes. If the answer is No then the next palyer goes and it goes until the last person guessing.

A GREAT game is right, left, center… it’s really quite silly, but if you use quarters or dollars instead of tokens, it’s actually pretty engaging. Even if you are out of quarters one turn, the next round could have one passed to you. Anyway… we like it a lot over the holidays.

D got a new battery, not because she planned it, but because she got her car jumped, drove to the gas station, and when she tried to start it again, nothing. Wouldn’t even jump. AAA and a new battery to the rescue. Did not say “I told you so.”

I guess she’s going to try to get to the airport in the morning. Praying for safety and wise decisions, a whole lot of that EDM to emerge if things get tough. She’s a very good driver, and not particularly a risk taker, but has little to no experience driving in snow, etc.

By the time we wake up, she’ll either be in the air or stuck in the airport. Well, assuming I sleep!

Zetesis, hoping things work out for your D, and that she’s safe!

Also hoping S doesn’t encounter any travel delays when he flies home on Friday. D’s bf is supposed to fly to Chicago tomorrow for his wine and dine weekend at Northwestern. Last weekend was at Columbia and he had an amazing experience. They took him to a Broadway show!

Hope everyone impacted by Saturn stays safe!
