Piggybacking on the wishes for a lovely Easter &/ Passover.

I have been banging my head on the wall for more than an hour trying to find a three cent error in our books. Driving me nuts. My (business) register is tied to the penny with the 12/31 bank statement, and yet my Quickbooks balance sheet is off three cents. I’ve looked at every journal entry twice now, and I cannot find my mistake. Income is accurate, so it has to be an expense entry. Aargh. This needs to go to the accountant so that the K-1s can be generated and it was my #1 priority to finish today. Grump.

Congratsto Zetesis D!
God luck on all job interviws and clearances.
am working on Easter. My first one in a long while so I cant complain. I had fun today, went Easter shopping for a small child at work whose parents cant get out to shop. I miss that, although I bought my girls things its not totally the same. Things are changing at work not sure how long I will be there. Im trying not to stress.
Happy Easter all.

I feel like a bad parent; no one is getting Easter treats at my house but I did buy my mother some little gifts. She is always so good about treating everyone else that I truly enjoy giving her something. It doesn’t even have to be “big”; she just really seems happy that someone thought of her.

Quiet day at the office as most of the staff took a vacation day; I guess I didn’t get that memo! Worked this morning, got my hair done (yay!), went to Costco and then for a run. Looking forward to sleeping tomorrow.

KMC, how was McH’s b-day? Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend with family and friends.

I miss the Easter egg hunts too but I did dye a few eggs today . Had a couple with dinner tonight-ham, Easter eggs and peas. Hope everyone has a nice holiday this weekend with Passover or Easter.

I sent both girls flowers. In the past, I’ve baked Easter breads, and could count on them getting delivered by USPS Priority mail in 2 days. Now it routinely takes 4, and I was afraid things would be stale. D2 seemed wistful, as if stale would have been just fine.

It’ll be just the two of us; we didn’t invite anyone over this year. We may go the hills with a picnic and hike.

Zetesis, As I mentioned earlier, just the 2 of us as well so we will go to Willliamsburg and Busch Gardens and walk around. It is different when the kids and family are not around but think it should still be a nice day. Have fun if you picnic and hike!

I couldn’t justify spending $5+ to mail the kids some Easter candy so I deposited $20 in each kid’s account. But have been stuffing plastic eggs for a couple egg hunts and will be helping out at one tomorrow am.

We never really did Easter candy (or for that matter, gifts or baskets), so that’s not much of a temptation. (When the girls were little we did Easter dresses, but that didn’t last very long …) I admit tonight, though, to craving some really good dark chocolate …

Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate.

A small brag: ShawSon was nominated by his school for a prize given by a Foundation for Entrepreneurial Activity. I’m not sure how selective it is – each of about 15 schools can nominate 2 kids, I think, and I’m not sure how many get selected. But, he was. And gets a cash award he can put into the business or use for himself. However, he has to drive about 40 minutes to an awards ceremony as a condition of getting the gift. But, while not game changers, awards and money are both good things.

Woo hoo for shawson! Agree, awards and money are good!

Was up early walking the dogs and saw lightning. Since then it has been pouring, lots of thunder. I know it’s supposed to clear up by this afternoon; hope it will clear up before our egg hunt scheduled at 11 am! We’ll have it indoors otherwise, but probably won’t have as many turn out.

Shaw, congrats to Shawson! That’s wonderful to get the recognition.

CQ, thanks for the weather report - I can always count on your weather making its way to us before long!

One year my father carefully planned an egg hunt for my nieces. Unfortunately, the squirrels hunted the eggs and divested them of their treasures before my nieces got outside to hunt for them. Lesson learned - no seeding the yard with eggs too early!

Awesome, Shaw! Have a lovely fam gathering this weekend! And happy Passover/Easter to all celebrants!

Sabaray, we had a nice time Thurs. good company, good food, good music. While I “broke” the diet a little, in the end I didn’t actually consume enough calories to GAIN, so I’m calling that a successful outing I took 3 bites of his cake, which represents restraint on my part! We get to do it ll over again tonight with mcson and FIL!

Its great to see mcson again in the flesh – there’s always so much anecdotal info you forget to talk about on calls. He’s definitely exhausted and. Little frustrated with his final term, which he actually describes as “too much busy work, not enough growth-engendering work.” In his case, the full impact of the very first failed theory class in freshman year and then the incomplete last term in engineering has made him realize that his last semester could have been much more enjoyable had he not been out of sequence plus compressed for time. He’s enjoying his senior thesis and his advisor immensely and wishes he could spend all his time on that. In some of his other classes, though, while he enjoys the students and profs, the work has gotten so experimental and “out there” that he has kind of realized that considering what he WANTS to be working on, it’s not really making much of a contribution to his portfolio or desire to hone his own, far more accessible/concrete style. No risk of this kid getting lost in the insular academia of the arts which actually makes me glad.

So in one sense, I see the “business sense” of his gf having some influence here. Not in the commercial sense, but if you’re directing quality theatrical productions, you develop a sensibility toward the concept of audience. He seems to be enjoying the concrete nature of that. He appears to be having an artistic influence on her as well, because she’s started doing voice and sound work, and is picking up some of his production tips. So much so that she was sorely temped to pursue an internship with NPR that arose, but had already committed to a theatrical internship in San Francisco for the summer.

He has applied for a multimedia job that technically speaking asks for at least 2years of agency experience. Based on the pay scale alone, it is not at all an entry level position. He seems to have this feeling of excitement around it, which might be na

Congrats to shawson! That’s quite an honor.

True egg hunt story: My family once had a wonderful, intelligent, eccentric German shepherd. One Easter my mother put a basket of colored Easter eggs on the coffee table. At some point the eggs all disappeared. The dog had taken them and hidden them all in the yard in different places! We found them for days and weeks after that.

Fun egg hiding dogs story. Which reminds me of an Easter-ish hiding story. When my sister’s kids were very little, their cat had kittens around Easter. The cat was in the closet with her litter and my sister told the kids not to bother the cat or the kittens. My sister caught her tiny daughter sneaking the kittens out of the closet in her Easter basket.

Happy Easter & Passover. As I’ve mentioned, H has started singing with a temple choir. Last night he was a ringer for a Presbyterian Good Friday concert…the same guy directs both choirs. When I asked H how they all got out of temple for Good Friday, he explained that Passover is an at home holiday, vs a temple holiday. Between y’all and H, I’m learning.

The other night, Son and his GF celebrated their 5th anniversary. Amazing.

Still haven’t shopped for Easter meal!!! H is out in the snow washing the lower level windows. He is wearing shorts and a sweatshirt with snow boots. Very funny looking!

Per her usual way, D2 doesn’t want to talk about graduation. I asked if she wanted to start looking for a grad dress and she got grouchy and left to bring lunch to BF who is hard at work. That didn’t take long! ;)

Congrats to ShawSon and to PieSon’s 5th year anniversary.

To heck with D’s graduation dress (which will be suitably hidden under her gown) – what I am I going to wear that it comfortable in high heat, not sweat inducing, and not a mass of wrinkles after sitting down for a couple of hours? And then what shoes to go with it given the amount of walking that is in the picture. Guys have it SO easy.

Update on the weather: the rain stayed away; at 11 am the sun was out and shining! About an hour later, got cloudy again with spits of rain, but now it’s warm and sunny! The egg hunt was a success; first time this church has done one. I was in charge of a large egg hunt at my former part-time church job; this time I was just a helper, which was nice! Quite a few folks from the neighborhood turned out.

Speaking of both weather and dresses for college graduation: when I graduated 30 years ago I selected a black/floral sleeveless dress to wear under my black robe. Graduation was traditionally outside, but rain was in the forecast. The university had to make a decision by a certain time whether it would be outdoors or moved inside. They decided to have it outdoors.

So when we were all lined up to walk down the lawn, of course the skies opened up and emptied on us. When we reached our folding metal chairs, each had a soggy swollen program on it, and we had to tilt the chairs to drain the accumulating puddle.

Since it was pouring they sped through the ceremony to get through it as fast as possible. We didn’t get to select our graduation speaker that year; as a state school it was customary to invite the governor at least once during their term, so were stuck with our governor. Instead of separating us out by school or level they had everyone stand and declared us all conferred. I was glad we had a shortened ceremony!

After the ceremony, the rain stopped and the sun came out, and I started to dry out. Eventually I removed my robe, and found my slip was showing. I kept trying to pull my dress down and couldn’t figure out why my slip was hanging below the hemline. Eventually I realized I had selected a dry-clean only dress to wear under my robe, and it had literally shrunk while I was wearing it! It never really fit right after that.

So, that’s my 2 cents worth of advice: don’t wear anything that will shrink in the rain!

CQ – what a great story! I’m adding “no dry clean only” clothes to the list! Looks like more family is going to come in for D’s graduation – I think I better get reservations set up for a graduation late lunch pronto. As well as our car rental.
