kmc, sounds like a terrific graduation weekend. Interesting about the CEO who did improv. The creativity and risk-taking connections make perfect sense. It’s just that there are other skill sets needed to build a company that not all improv artists would have. Fascinating path to success.

I am Son’s silent Facebook friend and last night he posted on his department’s page, asking whether they were going by the normal class schedule or the finals schedule. This folks, is Exhibit A of why I won’t be attending a graduation this spring!

So good to hear from you zim! Glad that your S is doing well and being self sufficient! What adventures you are having with your move! So much change for the whole family!

kmc…such a busy weekend! Sounds like everything fell in place. Congrats again on S’s graduation and launch! Hooray! Would have loved the grad party and lazy swim in the pool.

cq…Oh,no…so sorry to hear about the laptop. Emotions are certainly running high around here, too.

missy, arabrab, FallGirl and eddieo…I try to nod and smile with people like that. I just try not to engage. When asked about my girls I just smile and say they are doing well and enjoying life. Although I do tell all of you about D1 and D2’s successes and failures… along with my frustrations! ;)

Moda…I hope the shower was successful this week!

kmc, Congratultions to your son! The weekend sounds wonderful and so does winning an Ipad!

S2 got back to school for the final push after having to go to DC to meet with his future employer on Friday. He says the meeting went very well and he will have some input on which project he ends up on. My sister did end up buying him a watch for graduation (among other things) and we are waiting for it to arrive from Amazon today. It is a Tissot (not too cheap, not too expensive ) and I am not really familiar with that brand so I hope he likes it. He asked for a watch so I’ll be curious to see how much he wears it!

TA…D2 was talking to H and I this weekend about the mock interview she had and gave us a little more info. She was laughing about the strict woman who is in charge. She said the woman actually got a ruler out to measure margins on her resume and also measuring other spacing items. H was laughing when he told D2 that he is currently doing a national search for the head of his HR department and he thought her resume was better constructed than many he reviewed from people who should know what it takes to get hired! H feels there is definitely a disconnect between the academic and business world in this situation.

Congrats to all who have finished. S is done and graduation from the law school is this weekend - Mother’s Day of all days. That is the only one he is going to as he’s not walking for his MBA although he is getting it.

We decided that we wouldn’t get him anything yet and let him decide if he wants a briefcase, nice pen set, desk set or something like that. We’ll wait and see what he decides. I guess I can offer up a watch as well but I’m fairly sure he will veto that.

Congrats to RM S!!! What an accomplishment! You must be so very proud of all of his hard work and dedication. Congratulations! :)

Does everyone know what color their students’ tassels are? D2’s is called “drab” ! It is truly an unattractive color! We laughed at how business majors have such a dull color to represent their years of study. ;)

Congrats to all and such lovely stories. I think D1’s grad gift will be rent. She has been very busy. But graduation is next week. I worry about her, but she tends to land on her feet, so something will come up. I found a couple of interesting outfits.

I am looking for a new/used car. so spent some time test driving cars. I want to love something and I really don’t love anything, because I spend a lot of time commuting, I want to be comfortable. I am also looking at paint colors for the cottage hard to find right colors for woodsy places. Interestingly, I told D2 it would be easier, if I owned it. Freudian , as I do. But everyone thinks they own it. So opinions will be bountiful.
BTW D2 has been out for a week, we spent the weekend driving cars, and terrorizing sales people, we laughed and laughed. She did well in school no B’s as she feared.
Kmc so glad .
Zim mom such a cool life, I could live vicariously through you, well actually any one of you

Also Google cabin exterior paint colors and check out the pictures for ideas. You just need to decide if you want the cabin to stand out or blend in. We are doing a custom color. It is a grey green that will blend in to the woods with sealed cedar gable accents. Good luck!

ShawSon successfully defended his thesis and he was told the committee will recommend summa cum laude. His committee’s recommendation goes to a higher committee that calibrates it with his grades (which are stellar) so summa seems likely.

arabrab, in general, in our neighborhood, if the city’s assessment is wrong, you can contest it, often successfully.

Shawbridge – awesome news. And I hope shaw-son’s tassel is not the dreaded “drab” – I think that a guy must have come up with that. I can see a woman calling it taupe, perhaps, but drab? I don’t think so.

We head out tomorrow, so I’m scrambling like crazy today. It is hard to pack for hot (hot!) weather when it is relatively cool around here. We land about the time D is finishing her last final. Everything else is signed off and done.

Hi all -
Reports of graduations remind me so much of our early reports of drop offs! I know it’s been said a million times, but how did 4 years go so fast?

D graduates May 19. I keep asking my more experienced friends “We’ve got plane tickets, a hotel, and dinner reservations. D has the ceremony tickets and her cap and gown. What am I forgetting?”

Prior to graduation, I’ll spend a couple of days in NYC helping D2 pack up - actually I think she is planning to get the packing done before I get there, so we can “play”.

D1 has been thoroughly enjoying her last few months as an undergrad and only recently started to actively search for a job. She has always marched to her own drummer and always lands on her feet, so I’ve tried to keep my job hunting advice (and angst) to a minimum. I’ve been more successful some days than others ;)

zim - I always love to hear about your life. no gifts of acreage here!

I know I wasn’t part of that thread, eddie, but I guess I’m just feeling sort of sad that college is coming to an end for D. Things between us have not been that great this term and I guess I’m just filled with a lot of sadness at the way things are ending. I know I shouldn’t be whining when there’s a lot I should be happy for her about, but I just feel at times there’s so much unfulfilled potential. Is that bad to say?

I was a latecomer - my first CC post was in July of 2009, and my first on this group was September 25, 2009.

Been spending a “fun” evening looking at laptops online. D works until 11 pm, so will review specs I sent her then. Luckily it’s an hour earlier here for me.
