Okay – need all the mojo this week from here for my D. She has an interview on Wed. about 40 miles outside of Boston at a company that is similar to one that was interested in her out in Wisconsin (whom she wasn’t interested in). This is perfect for her as she really wants to be in the Boston area and this is close enough for her! So good thoughts on Wed. afternoon for her please as she interviews!

D’s graduation is this coming weekend. She loves it there - not sure that she is ready to be done. Still has a paper and project due this week.

S2’s graduation went well. I liked the speaker a lot, even though he wasn’t anybody famous and his delivery was just average. He had worked for an oilfield service company for 30 years and then started his own company. His advice included concepts such as “work is work” so expect that it will sometimes be routine and boring and “don’t go outside the box; instead stretch the box.” That is good advice for someone working for a large company, in my opinion.

In other good news, S2 received the job offer on Friday right before we left for graduation. This is a three-year graduate development program, with an established career progression incorporating a mix of classroom and hands-on training. He will be based out of Louisiana working mostly offshore, which he considers ideal (and I agree). He plans to fax in the paperwork with his formal acceptance today and then will finalize the start date.

For some reason, these kids are warned incessantly about the workload. Im not convinced guys on the rigs are putting in any more hours than investment banking analysts, consultants, doctors, lawyers, or any number of other young professionals. Over the top compensation coupled with slave hours are par for the course in lots of industries. Im personally not a fan of the system and would rather see these companies pay less and work the kids decent hours, but the training received through this process is second to none so thats always an offsetting plus. He will also be getting a company vehicle, which seems kind of pointless to me when his work will mostly be offshore, but S2 seemed to think that was particularly cool. Boys with their toys.

RM, sending your D good interview mojo. This is a stressful time as our grads all work to get placed.

TA, Congratulations to your son! What great news!

RM, Good luck to your daughter with her interview!

Back from a great graduation weekend for S2. We came back home Saturday night but he is coming back today after hanging around his college with friends for a couple of more days. Hope everyone who still has graduations coming up has a great time!

TheAnalyst, I am glad to hear that S2 got a development program job. That ought to allow him to see many sides of his industry. It sounds ideal.

Good luck to all interviewers. And congrats to all grads!

TA, that is awesome news and well deserved, especially given his stellar last semester performance. Sounds like a good fit for his skills and interests.

TA…Yay!!! I knew S2 would have a job offer! So very happy for him. It sounds like a very good fit for him. I bet you feel like a worry has been lifted.

sevmom…loved the grad pics! Congratulations again.

RM…sending good karma, mojo and fairy dust to your D! How exciting for her!

This is D2’s finals week. She doesn’t seem to be stressed which is very unlike her. She brought a carload of stuff home yesterday. Unfortunately it is all sitting in my living room at the moment. I am trying to avoid walking through the mess because it is driving me crazy.

TA - awesome news. Sorry I forgot to say that earlier. So much going on! Reminds me of when the students were all getting their acceptances to college! So much good news! :)

TA - Woot for S2!! Awesome that he is gainfully employed and hopefully doesn’t conflict with the big trip making it doubly good for all!

RM - Got your mojo going. Now if we could just get some mojo for ModaSon to even get an interview! Truthfully, don’t know how hard he is working on that and perhaps has more eggs in the summer job leading him to where he wants to go.

So not enough said… what a teaser! Isn’t that why we’re all here? To hear the interesting?? :)

TA–Super for your S2! I realize I know nothing about off shore living. Need to look into that.
RM–on it!
Today S is 23. Has a non paid internship lined up for the summer. DIL was nice to talk with also. Baby is doing his baby thing. We will see them at the end of June.

Sorry about my posting and deletion this morning - let me try again in a more organized fashion!

I am exhausted from the weekend! It was so busy but I can say we did it all.

We drove down Friday with my mother along; we checked in and then drove to a local craft brewery where D and several of her friends had taken a seminar in the art of beer brewing. They had arranged for a tour for the parents and a tasting. I have to say I learned a lot about beer and H thoroughly enjoyed it. My mother doesn’t drink but she loved the tour and meeting D’s friends. Dinner #1 then followed.

Saturday was Valediction. Unfortunately, each grad only got three tickets if the event was moved indoors (which it was) so Mom couldn’t attend (she was fine with that as most of it she wouldn’t have understood; she’s hip but not that hip ). It was a great speech, no topic was off limits. If you’re interested: [Stephen Colbert Salutes U.Va.'s Class of 2013 - YouTube](<a href=“Stephen Colbert Salutes UVA's Class of 2013 - YouTube”>Stephen Colbert Salutes UVA's Class of 2013 - YouTube) We then went to two parties on the Lawn then off to dinner. Noticing a theme? Lots of eating.

Sunday was gray and misty but happily graduation was held outside. Walking the Lawn is a huge tradition; when the students arrive at their first Convocation they are told it is one of two times they will be on the Lawn with their entire class. We got terrific seats right next to where the grads walk (we were there at 7:30 am!). I then met D and got some photos before everyone got all damp and frizzy. President Sullivan was warmly received by the students and parents whereas the Rector was very poorly received; there were even a few boos from the student section which D commented was poor form. You could hear crickets when she was introduced. Senator Webb gave a good speech, but it would be tough to follow Colbert. We then went on to a really nice lunch reception by the department and then the diploma ceremony. And finally, dinner #3! So much eating! But so much fun! Finally home around 8:30 Sunday night. D stayed behind for a last night of fun and packing. H has gone to retrieve her.

D forwarded an email she received from one of her thesis advisors (they do a thesis and a technical thesis) who she worked with for the year. I am so proud of her. Among other things, he commented on her superb thesis and that she should take all the satisfaction in this rare accomplishment that was fully earned. I guess it was an “A”!

sabaray, Glad you had such a great time! Congratulations! Also, glad your daughter got to walk the Lawn. The rain really threatened in 09’ when S1 graduated and it was a real possibility that things would have had to move indoors. Luckily, it only drizzled a little so walking the Lawn still happened. Great that you had Colbert and Webb, especially Colbert!

From NMinn: 'She doesn’t seem to be stressed which is very unlike her" She’s in love!!
Whoo-hoo to TA s2!! Sounds like a perfect fit.
Good vibes, prayers wishes, etc being sent for Rochmom’s D!
And a big congrats to SabarayD!! Must have been fun! Mom sounds like a trooper!

Woody, it was really important to her. When D was young she used to tell my parents they could come visit every weekend if she went to UVA. Needless to say that didn’t happen but D really wanted Mom there and I’m so glad she could be.

I am convinced that the area around Oklahoma City has the worst weather in the nation. The tornado that hit today is almost beyond belief. In the last few years they have had huge hail, ice, snow, tornadoes, drought and earth quakes…I think everything Mother Nature has except hurricanes and volcanoes.
