Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been shopping all day and didn’t find anything. He is a 33 X 34 and I couldn’t find any pants that size in any of the stores. Looks like I will have to order online. I will buy whatever fits for him but would love to find something that was washable rather than dry clean only. Express and Banana Republic carry his size online. Boys are hard to shop for!!!

I think the hardest part would be deciding pleated vs plain front. The Dockers dress slacks are washable. If he hangs the slacks from the feet when they are half dry they will look great.

No pleats and no cotton/twill. They have to be “suit” pants with no jacket/blazer. Who knew this would be difficult to find?!?!

Like these Hagar slacks? Haggar Men’s Repreve Stria Gab Plain Front Dress Pant, at Amazon. I have to admit, I just looks at the Kohls site and, in plain front, they did not have his size, nor did they have 34s in his inseam. H bought some nice slacks from Duluth Trading. Did you look at the superstores like K&G? The one I visited here some time ago was jammed with clothing, so more likely to have his size. I had good luck at K&G getting my nephew a jacket years ago when he needed one while away at school. I remember that so well because at the time, Kohls had no dress clothes for men at all. I was shocked. They have reformed since then. LOL.

Tree…have no idea what a K&G store is! Thanks anyway!

Heading to the lake for the weekend. Sunday is H’s birthday so he wants to celebrate there. I really think he wants to be there so there will be no distractions as he watches sports all weekend! I will read, walk and help address shower invitations. Wish it was warmer! Have a good weekend all!

My sons have found a lot of dress pants at Macy’s. Flat front/non-twill–definitely. My sons have also bought some sport jackets/blazers and suits there as well.

H likes the Kirkland no-iron dress shirts too. Kohls has a good selection of khaki-type pants; Mens Wearhouse was better for dress slacks.

MP – Congrats on PieSon’s admission! I hope your cold is a lot better by now, and it sounds like D2’s ex is a don’t-let-the-door-hit-you-on-the-way-out kind of guy. Good riddance.

Desultory snow here today. Snugged down getting paperwork cleared up. Joy.

I just skyped with my grandson, high school class of 2031? Doesn’t that sound ridiculous?

I shudder to think what college will cost when he gets there. My son and DIL have been running various financial scenarios with a financial planner–there is no good one. It’s hard to contemplate saving that amount of money (and they plan on having more children) while also having the expenses of living in an expensive city (Boston).

Haven’t been to one lately, but here is the link - http://www.kgstores.com

College costs - I remember my dad saying that college was not for people from his se level. Then we went to everyone thinking that anyone could go to college. I think we have returned to the point where only the affluent or the very lucky can go. Sure, someone can borrow the majority of the cost, but it it takes them their entire adult life to pay it back, their kid will be on their own. It is sad, IMO.

My son was saying…like, maybe $400,000 per kid? For undergrad? how do you save that much plus for retirement, etc.? He and my daughter are frugal and savers but that is just daunting. Basically their plan is going to be to live on one salary and bank the other…which works only if my DIL wants to continue to work full time. They are also looking in to moving to an area with better public schools because Boston’s are uneven at best; their original plan had been Jewish day school, which is really their first choice overall (they are observant/modern Orhodox) but that is just so expensive as to be unaffordable.

And they are in a good financial position. They own a (small starter) home and have only a manageable amount of student loan debt.

How are others in their generation going to do it?

Wow, those costs are hard to imagine. S’s gf’s family expects her to pay her way through college. I don’t think they realized that’s pretty near impossible, so now they are “loaning” her the money at no interest, which they expect her to pay back. She also works around 20 hours a week.

Speaking of S, we get to have him home an extra day for spring break. I got up at 3:30 am and we were almost to the airport when we received a call his flight was cancelled. They couldn’t get him there until tomorrow. So we turned around and drove home and went back to bed. He’s up now watching basketball.

Home from the lake. Had a nice day celebrating H’s birthday. We are currently having snow flurries. So tired of this winter. This is D2’s last full week of her accounting internship. She really enjoyed the work and people. Got her graduation announcement in the mail this weekend. I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by! She will start her CPA prep right after graduation. It is nice that her firm will pay for the prep classes and materials.

missy…hope you are feeling better!

moda…sending prayers your way.

Hello. Pneumonia. On the mend. Trying to keep up.

Younger D had her vocal audition and definitely has a non-major vocal scholarship. Won’t know the amount until after the prof hears everyone who is auditioning.

My sister’s dog is sick. She has posted on Facebook that if he pulls through, she is going to use her health insurance money to pay for vet insurance instead. Great example of her life time of decision-making.

Wow, Missypie, take care!! I may have posted this earlier, but my brother got pneumonia this past winter, and ended up being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and spending 3 days in ICU (with sepsis).

I’m just remembering that it was a year ago now that D2 was interviewing at grad schools. Time flies.

Oh, missypie! Feel better! So sorry you have pneumonia! :frowning: Take care of yourself.

Zetesis, crazy, isn’t it? D’s bf was hosting a prospective grad student this past weekend. He was enjoying the fine dining on his school’s dime!

MP sorry to hear about the pneumonia. Hope you feel better soon. Also glad to hear about the success of your children.

Moda so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. It is so difficult to lose a parent.

Working a lot but not that interested in the work. I think my old job was more difficult. This one is just a lot of ankle biting of everyone and making sure that they don’t think that the fairy godmother is going to show up and fix everything at the last minute.

S has been working some crazy hours as they asked him to help out in executive compensation and then the associate that was in that area quit. So S who is a first year associate is trying to pick up the slack. He’s learning alot - like he’s not interested in executive compensation. :)

D is working a lot of hours as well. They have to trade off taking evening and weekend shifts and since she doesn’t have a family yet she is picking up maybe more than her fair share and it’s not like they are paid extra for it. I’m hoping that that will come into play when her review comes around. She and her BF are also house hunting. They aren’t working with a realtor yet although that will be starting soon. At this point they have been more concentrating on what they want and where they would like to be in the area.

Oh well back to the grind…

Hello to all. Not much real news here – seems like I’m spending all my time (1) working on training the puppy, (2) cleaning up after said puppy when she has decided that “going outside” is not for her, usually during the early evening “witching hours,” (3) walking the puppy and (4) trying to stay current with my online Archaeology course. Honestly, I must have blocked out everything related to puppy training from our first dog … H is getting a little better with helping out, but often announces he “has work to do” and just disappears upstairs to his study. Let’s just say he’s in his study a lot more recently than in the past …

Hoping for a miss by the “big winter storm” headed our way tonight/tomorrow. It looks like the worst of it will be on Cape Cod, but even a dusting of snow here will be too much, IMO. As with so many others on this thread (especially those in MN), I am so done with winter!
