Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

c_q, Sorry to hear about your travel plans. I was supposed to fly to Pittsburgh this afternoon to see my sister on People Express. Just found out yesterday they cancelled all their flights. I’m going on Southwest tomorrow morning instead but had to pay a lot more to change to Southwest But somebody on People Express’s facebook page posted yesterday that his wedding is today and he has family members that now can’t attend his wedding because they can’t afford a last minute flight. So, in the scheme of things I feel lucky that I could make other arrangements and that we didn’t already have any major plans tonight that I would have missed.

Yes, it’s good to keep it in perspective. in one of my lines at the airport was a pastor who had been attending a conference and was trying to return back to the Chicago area. She was scheduled to officiate at a wedding at 1 pm today. Was looking at renting a car and driving.

Sending prayers for boysx3! Hope we hear from someone with good news! :(

Let’s see good news?

Well yesterday DIL and S celebrated their 1 year anniversary. This time next year they will have a little one probably crawling by that point. I always knew that S would move fast!

More stuff moved to D’s place yesterday and H sprayed her lawn for weeds. Today they are coming and she is signing the paperwork for the fence.

H and I are starting to discuss the plans for our house. We would like to redo prior to retirement so that we can enjoy it. Issue is of course that one thing leads to another. Can’t just do one room or one thing. Basically the entire downstairs needs to be redone and then we can start on the upstairs. :)

What did I miss for boysx3? Arghh. Did I read too quickly and gloss over something?

RM, there has been some discussion on the private FB group, but there’s some CC discussion about boysx3 here: <a href=“Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1) - #18205 by rockvillemom - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums”>Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1) - #18205 by rockvillemom - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums;

Gee and I’m on one FB group. Maybe a different one. Thanks CQ - how terrible!

Wow, I had no idea about boysx3. Oh my goodness.

I didn’t either. Incredibly sad.

I just read this news; so sorry to hear it and hope that she recovers soon and well.

Good Morning, all. In my work world it is New Year’s Eve (fiscal year ends today), so the fun begins. We are still getting through the software upgrade issues and also undergoing a number of organizational/management changes. I can not say that I am bored!
H and I flew back to the midwest to see our parents the weekend before last. Both of my parents looked great as did MIL. FIL not as much. My Dad continues to work out and we took a long morning walk together. His treatment is going well.
We are enjoying the empty nest, but S is having a time adjusting. Living in a suite with 4 others is a big struggle for an introvert. He is still trying to find “his people”. I am hoping things get better soon.
Keeping boysx3 in my thoughts and prayers.

D2 started work yesterday. She was very excited. Spent most of the day in orientation so she is looking forward to actually working today. There were four new hires, three from her University and one from our state flagship. She said it was nice knowing everyone. D1 and D2 have their marathon and 10 mile run this coming Sunday. A friend was able to get us VIP passes so H and I can see them at the finish line.

I had a very fun weekend scrapping “up North”. The fall color was just beautiful. Was expecting cooler temps but it was in the 80’s! This week is noticeably cooler.

Had an exterminator in yesterday so I can try to prevent having mice this winter. Ish… He was able to find some possible entry points on the exterior and seal them up. I hope it works!

Spent yesterday with a friend who had some Basal cell cancer removed from her nose. Made me realize I need to get in to the dermatologist myself!

Continued prayers for boysx3. I keep thinking of how excited she was with the move and newly remodeled condo. Sending prayers for strength and healing her way.

Oh my I a so upset. She is such a doll, if she survives she has such a long road. Dammit! Dammit!Dammit! I would say worse but I cant. When I was sick she wrote to me and suggested a lovely jewish song and it became such a comforting song for me. I was hoping to meet her when I went to see D1 in DC. My heart is so heavy.

Since reading about boysx3’s serious health condition yesterday, I’ve been in a “what good are these virtual friendships anyway” frame of mind…we don’t know when there has been a life altering health event, can’t take food to the family, etc etc. But upon reflection, I do know that my CC friends have been of tremendous benefit to me, and I hope I’ve been of benefit to others. At one level, our depth of information and variety of life experiences is much greater than that of my circle of friends and acquaintances IRL. At another level, we can vent and brag and support each other in the venting and bragging when we may not have an outlet for that among the co-workers and neighbors we see everyday. All in all, i am very grateful for you…(but I still feel bad that I can’t do anything for boysx3 or her family.)

Beautiful, DTE – is that what she sent you?

Missy, I know what you mean, but we can still send her all of our mojo, prayers and hugs through the ether/cyber goddess…which I am sending now ;)

Since we’ve been on a Cohen kick, here’s one of my fav poems of his that suits my mood of the moment…

GOD IS ALIVE
MAGIC IS AFOOT

God is alive, magic is afoot
God is alive, magic is afoot
God is alive, magic is afoot
God is afoot, magic is alive
Alive is afoot, magic never died
God never sickened
Many poor men lied
Many sick men lied
Magic never weakened
Magic never hid
Magic always ruled
God is afoot, God never died
God was ruler
Though his funeral lengthened
Though his mourners thickened
Magic never fled
Though his shrouds were hoisted
The naked God did live
Though his words were twisted
The naked magic thrived
Though his death was published
Round and round the world
The heart did not believe

Many hurt men wondered
Many struck men bled
Magic never faltered
Magic always lead
Many stones were rolled
But God would not lie down
Many wild men lied
Many fat men listened
Though they offered stones
Magic still was fed
Though they locked their coffers
God was always served
Magic is afoot, God is alive
Alive is afoot

Alive is in command
Many weak men hungered
Many strong men thrived
Though they boast of solitude
God was at their side
Nor the dreamer in his cell
Nor the captain on the hill
Magic is alive
Though his death was pardoned
Round and round the world
The heart would not believe

Though laws were carved in marble
They could not shelter men
Though altars built in parliaments
They could not order men
Police arrested magic and magic went with them
Mmmmm… for magic loves the hungry
But magic would not tarry
It moves from arm to arm
It would not stay with them
Magic is afoot
It cannot come to harm
It rests in an empty palm
It spawns in an empty mind
But magic is no instrument
Magic is the end
Many men drove magic
But magic stayed behind
Many strong men lied
They only passed through magic
And out the other side
Many weak men lied
They came to God in secret
And though they left Him nourished
They would not tell who healed
Though mountains danced before them
They said that God was dead
Though his shrouds were hoisted
The naked God did live
This I mean to whisper to my mind
This I mean to laugh within my mind
This I mean my mind to serve
Til’ service is but magic
Moving through the world
And mind itself is magic
Coursing through the flesh
And flesh itself is magic
Dancing on a clock
And time itself
The magic length of God
