In NYC on a yuk of a day… we had thought we were going to go to the MOMA, but then we had to go to Sahadi’s as cheese/crackers are our contribution tomorrow. I got a very interesting salami, some fig/onion and about 6 different kinds of cheese. Bread, crackers and toasts (for goat cheese and fig). We got home nearly an hour and a half later. If I’d live here, I’d definitely figure quicker ways to get places, but I can’t even express how great it is to see lots of little everything around every corner compared to the nook where it’s 45 minutes to pick up a gallon of milk! This is my 3rd Airbnb experience and honestly, it’s a great place. Quiet and plenty of room for us to hang out and even an outdoor place that was wonderful yesterday - not to much in use today!

NMN - curious to know what D1 had to say about the mess left behind at the cabin, but more wanting to know about this BF thing… official enough to be BF? When did this occur and how did I miss this?

Oh! I love Sahadi’s! We used to live around the corner on Pacific Street when we were first married. H would shop twice a week for his pistachios-- among other things.
We stopped by when we were visiting S back over the summer and the owner recognized my husband…from 30 years ago! Too funny!

Well, have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone! And safe travels to all!

D and her BF are on vacation this week and meeting up with us tomorrow in Albany. She just texted me that they have settled into the hotel for the evening in Cooperstown as the roads are just too messy to drive. This is a kid that has lived in Western NY and then went to college in Maine. If she says the roads are a mess I believe her! Drive save everyone!!!

Oh and H just called. He did something to his elbow. Why do I think I’m going to spend the next few hours in urgent care. Ugh! Wonder if I’ll be driving to Albany tomorrow.

D is driving from Providence to Boston tomorrow. I just texted her and suggested she take the train we will pay for a taxi to her friend’s parents home she said maybe. She at least has an all wheel drive, though 20 years old and tiny.

The mother of her friend sent out a “tasting menu” they are doing with special whiskeys and that they should dress for dinner. D clairfied that that could mean tux’s, business suits, or sports jackets. and meant the sports jacket. In other words assuring the guys not to get too formal. Made me laugh as I have never seen anything but sweaters and sometimes a tie on Thanksgiving around here.

I fixed up the spare room for G’Son. So Cute! Have no idea if he will actually sleep in it yet.

Hope your H is OK RM. Not a day to sit waiting for treatment.

Safe travels, all. We’re out in lovely Palm Springs staying with the extended family in a VRBO mid-century modern of rather amazing proportions. Three dishwashers. The only downside is that mid-century-modern furniture is remarkably uncomfortable, though visually stunning. Still, mid-70s, warm pool and jacuzzi and many shady places to relax.

I finally got through to S – he didn’t try driving up from NJ last night. Now I only have to worry about him driving this morning. No idea how the roads are – hopefully the road crews have done their thing. I still don’t understand why he doesn’t have his snow tires on … He said he “couldn’t get them (tires) changed.”

Happy Thanksgiving! And safe travels for those on the roads today.
Arabrab, that sounds lovely. I wouldn’t mind a trip to the mid-70s if it were warm I suspect in the mid-70s my hottub didn’t leak yet Sigh.

So, who has seen Interstellar and who thinks that its time to dispense with the proverbial bootstrap paradox as a plot device in otherwise sound sci fi? I loved the movie, but don’t understand why Nolan couldn’t resist having Coop tell himself the coordinates…Won’t say much else lest it be spoiler for those who haven’t seen it and plan to ;)

I escaped work yesterday at my personal equivalent of “early” (5:30 ) despite a last minute directive to create and launch a last minute digital campaign that had to run Fri thru Sun. Yes, client decided to do so after noon on the last working day of the week. Talk about 11th hour shenanigans.

We picked up S Tuesday night. The drive to get him was bumper to bumper slow, but thankfully it was fine driving back.Went out in the snow yesterday to walk the dog and it was slick, but just walked him this morning and it’s clear and it wasn’t slippery.

D’s flight yesterday was delayed but she and BF eventually got to their destination. I think she’ll have a wonderful time with her grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. She is coming here for new years so she’ll see the new place then. S was pretty blown away by our view. He had seen photos but when you’re here it’s more impressive in person.

Since the weather was yucky yesterday we got caught up on S’s laundry and did some baking, and also unpacked some more boxes.

Now if H, S and I could just agree on what tourist things we are going to do! S and I discussed while H was at work yesterday, but H didn’t think much of our plans. Kind of like picking the Thanksgiving dinner location! H and D are more alike, while S and I tend to be similar. Sigh. We’ll all make some compromises and hopefully go somewhere!

I got a message late Tuesday night from a former colleague. After my resignation was announced I had suggested she apply for my job. She didn’t have an IT background (I didn’t either) but has the right kind of analytic problem-solving thought process. I told her I’d be one of her references and had been called a couple of weeks ago. I knew she wasn’t terribly happy in her position due to a change in management a few years ago, plus my former job would be a salary raise. She was offered the job! She sent a nice note. I’m so thrilled for her, and my co-workers were very excited she was going to apply and I know they will be helpful and supportive.

Looking forward to a delicious (albeit non-traditional) meal later today! Glad the weather has cleared!

Good morning! A few minutes of cc with y’all before The Holidays begin (a/k/a/Endless Work.) I was up early to online shop for Son’s big electronics gift. Target (that had the best deal) was already sold out online, but I still got a significant discount at Best Buy online.

H makes wonderful totally-from-scratch pumpkin pies. After he took his wonderful pies out of the oven yesterday, he decided to sponge off the inner glass oven window. Crack! (Swearing!) “I broke the oven.” I downplayed it, because I do have double ovens and I know H feels very bad, but I was awake at 3 pm trying to mentally figure out the logistics. I know it’s a first world problem, but Thanksgiving is the one time of the year when I am very thankful for my double ovens.

I am envious of the mid-century house. My décor is mid-century, stuffed into a mid-80s house.

kmc, grr on the last minute work! (Clients - you can’t live with them, you can’t live without them.)

Best wishes to all of you for a terrific, stress free Thanksgiving.

mp, sorry about the oven window–has happened here too but the oven was new and the company replaced free.

I have been good about not saying that I really dislike Thanksgiving food and the length of the day. I can be a really creative cook and like the edge of that but find this day filled with pedestrian food. Gosh that sounds bad. Gonna leave it as I have waiting kindly for the end of the day to say so.

We are always with another family and S and his family are here so the company was just excellent. We played a fun game of dictionary which was helped as I went online and searched “weird dictionary words” with great results.

The best (simply and truly bragging here) was when DIL saw G’Son’s new little bedroom, “This is cute as a button”.
And then tonight found me to say that when they finally get to move to their own place she wants me to help her decorate as she loves what I do. Sweet. (though how odd for a 22 old to say “cute as a button”–my D would laugh at me for a term like that and insist I explain how a button is cute:).)

Hoping everyone is happy and full tonight. I am having a quiet bourbon which is the best thing on the menu for the day.

oregon - I saw your last line and the time that you posted…then I remembered what time zone you are in!

Nice day with our “Thanksgiving Family” the friends who celebrate with us every year or some years. Some of the food was a little overcooked, but desserts and appetizers (friends brought) were fabulous and as always a good time.

S and D ran a 5k in the AM- his first race ever and he placed in the top 10% of all runners. He does not even run, just goes to the gym most days. D took a lot of time off of her prior time. Both kids finished in the top third of their age group. Can you tell I am pretty proud of my non runners who ran? Thinking of maybe getting in shape and joining them next year.

We had a great Thanksgiving Day. Great to have both kids home. ShawSon is working away as he has an assignment due on Sunday and will be flying home tonight. ShawD came home but had to go back last night for her last clinical in the Cardiac ICU unit today at 7 AM. And ShawWife’s cousin (ShawSon’s coach for many years) came. A year ago yesterday, she went to the doctor to say that something felt wrong in her neck although nothing was really visible or feelable. Well, the doc did a CT Scan and she had thyroid cancer. She found a wonderful surgeon at “Man’s Greatest Hospital” who remarkably had a great staff and great bedside manner and she had surgery and is completely healthy. You can’t even see the incision.

I negotiated a deal yesterday. ShawD desperately wants a pet and as you may recall, the dog got kiboshed by the adoption agency as her life as a nursing student living in the city was not compatible with a dog and the ducks, well, let’s just say that the ducks deserves a couple of episodes at least of the sitcom that could be made of ShawD’s life. [The ducks are still alive at the farm where they ultimately went to and are laying eggs. We have visitation rights.] So, now ShawD is on to cats. ShawWife has been greatly opposed as she is allergic to dogs and even more to cats. ShawD says, “I’m going to get one at some point, so why not now.” Well, I discovered that there are somewhat hypoallergenic cats (they produce less of the Fels D1 protein that seems to be the major cause of the problem. So, we’re agreed – ShawD can get one of those. All will be happy. Though I pointed out to ShawD that while cats are better housetrained and probably smarter, having a cat shouldn’t eliminate the role of a boyfriend.

Lol. Tell Shaw d that I am allergic to most cats, but not Siamese. A male Siamese can be trained just like a dog to walk on a leash and play fetch, but is obviously more suited to long work hours than a dog. That’s what I did when I was her age if she considers it, though, tell her its worth the extra money to look at Siamese bred for show, with papers. Its a breed that is easily verb red, which results in a less than optimal disposition. (My folks bred Siamese for a while, which is how I know this to be true ;)

Yes, ipadian for “over bred” I missed it because I was distracted from my post…so to speak!

Dinner party last night was fun but I’m not sure what I was thinking having Turkey Day today on the heels of it…or vice versa.

My friends from the dinner party actually usually get together the last Saturday before Xmas but this year one couple is off to Africa to visit their daughter in the Peace Corps for Xmas and Black Friday seemed to be the alternate date that would work for everyone. So it was our Merry Thanksmas party Great fun but I shoulda had one fewer “Moscow Mule” I suspect in order to be in my best Turkey-searing form today.

No idea what a Moscow Mule is, but it’s probably yummy! :)

I just did a 5 mile run around the local reservoir here – 24 degrees, but a gorgeous morning. My side of the family’s annual post-Thanksgiving Pizza Party is tonight and I needed to do something to try to counteract all the carbs – beer, pizza, etc.

S showed up at BIL & SIL’s house for Thanksgiving dinner about 15 minutes before we sat down. Not sure where he’s been since, but he’s supposed to show up tonight for said pizza party. It sounds like he won’t get Christmas off, so it will be very odd to not have all of us there. I’m already bummed out about it.

Sounds like Thanksgiving was fun for all. We had 13 for dinner and games. Everyone loved playing Heads Up, Ellen Degeneres’ mobile app game. Very funny Charades type game. I was exhausted after everyone left. We were invited to SIL’s grandparents for a taco bar gathering last night. So nice to visit with all of his family. Probably about 25 people were there.H cleaned up on the pool table even with a recovering back. He is off to the gym today to start walking rehab. We also went to see Interstellar on the IMAX screen yesterday. Amazing! We normally see two movies over Thanksgiving weekend but the girls couldn’t make their schedules work. :(

kmc…I am getting copper mugs for Moscow Mules for Christmas.

Hope to get the Christmas tree up tonight or tomorrow.
