Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

missy…in a previous life before children I ran a prevention program for high risk children. Tried to to keep the kids out of trouble before they did something that would send them to “juvie” .

-35 with wind chill today. Most schools are closed but there are still some open. I have to run to get groceries. Ugh…

Wow NM, sounds gruesome. I’ve been in DC with a few inches of snow. Hilarious in some ways. All of these people who don’t know how to drive in snow. Spinning out. Driving was sort of like a video game where you had to stay away from the crazy people swerving and spinning.

First snow of the year is always exciting around here – all of the kids from California driving big SUVs that do not have the magic braking/steering systems they think they have.

Somehow our 13 today seems that it is a lot warmer than what you’ve got back east. Brrr…

got up and out to the docs, had a chest xray, I think this is just going to hang on, and I will have to suck it up. I am taking a couple more days from work. I did buy a neti pot at the health food store as well as gogi berries.
Shaw D is going to be an excellent nurse. I know my daughter is too, you can just tell. She made a clinical decision in your co-op that I was impressed with. her patients love her and she loves them.
Funny, some younger nurses are trying so hard to get out of nursing, like they went into it for other reasons. I don’t want to stop.
When I went out to MN. I realized how like my father’s family I am . We like to work and don’t stop. MY uncle is retired but he likes to invent and make patents. he is in his 70’s knows all current events, and doesn’t seem “older” at all. My aunt is the same way. working at 68. Very interested in everything. I cant not go to school, I was suffocating, and I need it, it has been so good for me.
Not really excited about the Tsaranev trial, just a bummer, and the Hernandez trial. hard to face.

temp 20’s today, tomorrow much lower schools are closed.

FallGirl, same chaos here on the MD side of the river. The storm came in during the height of rush hour after schools had already made the call on sending out buses. At least in our district, they rescinded a two-hour delay and canceled at 8:30 am, which left everyone in the lurch (or sitting in traffic). There was also more snow than expected (was supposed to be 1-2" here, we got 4.5). Small potatoes, but enough to muck up the day.

How funny… S just got called as well!

Never found out why the roads weren’t cleared. Snow was in the forecast although somewhat less than what we actually got.

I have been called for jury duty twice and selected both times. The first time was a 1 day trial and we voted to convict. The second time a mistrial was called shortly after our lunch break. I actually enjoyed both experiences, but would not enjoy being on call for months on end.

Heading home. Arrived in Zurich late last night for a 3 hour meeting and lunch followed by a flight to London and then London home. ShawWife came down with a recurrene of the plague you guys have een suffering, but had to spend yesterday hanging a new show, which was more complicated than usual. It is the gallery of a very hoity-toity New England prep school . The gallery was donated by a very wealth family and ShawWife has it all for 3 months. Setup is hard because the pieces are made of plaster and a few weigh 200 pounds.

Feel better and hide from the cold.

any advice on flights to Italy? best way to go to Florence?

DIL after a VERY long labor - started at 3:30 AM on the 7th gave birth to a 9 pound baby boy at 11:28 this morning (finally). Need to get out of here and run to the hospital to see him but she is tired so giving her a few hours before I appear. Can’t wait to see him!!!

Congratulations, RM! How exciting!

Congratulations to RM, DIL & family! Glad to hear all is well.

Continued healing thoughts and energy to all those under the weather. I’ve got my fingers crossed that we miss it.

dte – when we went to Italy the first time we did Venice, Florence and Rome. We only traveled by train, which worked out really well. We flew in and out of Zurich since we were using H’s miles, and that was where we could get flights for the dates we wanted. At the end we did an overnight train from Rome back to Zurich – interesting experience.

Congratulations RM! I am so excited for your family!!! What a blessing. Enjoy your Grandma time!
