Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

NM I concur with above, D2 should make sure she isnt dehydrated. her doctor will want to see her, will probably do a heart monitor for 24 hours to make sure its not some sort of heart arrhythmia. When I was sick, I had a very low BP( I still do but not that low) If my BP was in the 90’s and it dropped due to exercise, dehydration to the 80’s I would faint. or almost faint, it was scary. you daughter is a young healthy female and its unlikely to be anything really bad but she should see a doc. When my SIL was young if she got hot she would have a vagal reaction and faint.

D keeled over a few times right after changing position - sitting to standing, for example. After some nerve wracking neurology and cardiology tests, the pediatric cardiologist put her on the potato chip and soda pop diet. Seriously. Said she needed more fluid and more salt.

ararab there is a condition where after a flu,( my daughter and I had it). we didn’t faint but our heart would race. The treatment was Gatorade and salt, until the body got back to normal after the flu. Evidently the flu does something to your blood vessels, and it takes them awhile to go back to normal. They say it runs in families. some people need to do this for a long time, but we were better quickly. My D saw a cardiologist at my hospital , he said he sees many of these kids

Thanks all. I have told her to start working on hydration and making sure she is eating a good breakfast. She says she will get to her doctor after tax season.

Not to make light but how do I get put on the potato chip diet?

My thoughts exactly - potato chips and soda pop, finally a diet I can stick to!

We actually needed a doctor’s note because her school had a healthy lunch policy!

What a story!

So missy, inquiring minds want to know…did your H cooperate with the garage treasure reduction plan, or does the bus need to swing by with some black-clad arsonist cyber friends?

Then again, the bus might be stuck in a snowdrift on route to get me. We had a decent whack of snow here. I will have to assess a roof raking plan, I’m afraid. It might involve magic!

FallGirl, I have a trip scheduled to DC the week of Feb. 23. I am taking Amtrak and my client is in DC. I will be working and staying on a Metro line.

It’s snowing here - took the dog down the elevator early this morning and discovered just how much snow we’ve had so far; it’s still coming down. I haven’t been here for any accumulation before (been out of town). They haven’t shoveled yet so we didn’t get too far out the front door.

Talked to D yesterday - she had gone grocery shopping in advance of her snowstorm. She’s taking a GMAT prep course and is in the process of applying to an MBA program for working professionals, which would begin next fall.

I’m home this week, then travel each week the rest of February.

Hope everyone who is a football fan enjoyed the game last night. We didn’t have a favorite team, so just watched the game, halftime and commercials for the entertainment value. S is still home since he doesn’t leave for his study abroad program until late February. He has contributed as a fan to a sports blog and has been asked to be a regular contributor. Since sports is his passion and he would love to work in that field this is a good development!

c_q I would love to meet IRL.

Was thinking about buying D a pair of nice snow boots and am now kicking myself that I didn’t.

Hope everyone in the way of the storm is safe and warm. My folks flew back to IL yesterday. Dad would have stayed in FL, but mom wanted to go back home (to a blizzard). But they did get home ok.

The game was on here but I live in a Packer household so H wasn’t really into it. I watched Katy Perry then went upstairs to watch Downton.

I got in to Boston from the Virgin Islands at 6:15 last night and watched part of the game while waiting to get our luggage and then high-tailed over to my friend’s house in Cambridge to watch the rest of the game. As Pats fans, we were thrilled but lucky to win. Big change in climate as we have a huge amount of accumulated snow with a fair bit coming down now. Cancelled my first two meetings of the day.

I am flying tomorrow to London. I assume the planes will be in place then.

c_q - How cool for your son!
Safe travels, as always, Shaw.
I thought it was a pretty good Superbowl over all. H was not into it at all but he indulged me. We watched Downton on replay. For fans of same, you have to read the NYTimes recap this AM… too funny!

I’m home today thanks to the snow day gods. Very pleased as I have a stack of term papers to grade and wasn’t too sure how I was going to get them done otherwise… but of course, I had to procrastinate on CC first!

Good morning, Older D has experienced her first bona fide blizzard. Classes were cancelled today but she has no Monday classes; opening of work was delayed until 10:30. She sent pix and says she feels like she is in Narnia.

We got about half way done with the garage but have loads and loads and loads of things to donate and filled the giant recycling bin past the brim. Although H kept some things I would have pitched, I was proud of him. I wish I was home next weekend to continue, but I will be visiting my mother for her birthday.

We went with our family tradition of dining at a hot new restaurant for the the first half of the SB, got home in time for the halftime show, then I felt compelled to watch the rest because it didn’t get boring. We watched Downton afterwards, but I was too sleepy to catch the Puppy Bowl.

^PuppyBowl was no contest…the ruffs walked all over the fluffs. I think Cara robbed Falco of MVP (most valuable pup). You can tell what kinds of sportsmen I live with, eh?

The “Kitty Perry” half time show was something else again…lookup clips from the existential cat Henri…they were priceless.

Here’s a clip:

(a school mate of mcson’s was involved with the PuppyBowl shenanigans…hence the eight ended interest in the mchousehold)

D’s flight got out headed for NY only 6.5 hours late, including a de-planing and re-planing. I figure the taxi will get her to her new apartment about 1:30. A.M. Yikes. Work starts tomorrow. Glad she’s young.

My flight to London is delayed only 20 minutes or so. The crew was supposed to go out last night.

Arabrab, I say that often about my kids’ travails. They’re young. Thank goodness.

She made it to her place at 3:15 am. The plane sat on a taxiway for 2.3 hours after landing waiting for a gate to become available – and she landed at 10:15 pm. And she’s already at the office. I’d be trying to prop my eyelids open. Or still dead to the world.

Oh to be young again.
