lol. Thanks for the link. It’s the feet and ankles that I can’t get over. My ankles were more swollen the day after giving birth than before.
She did look great! I noticed she had on a very nice yellow dress which makes me think they truly didn’t know if they were having a boy or a girl. I like Charlotte and Alice. I really hope they don’t name her Diana-as a middle name (or one of many middle names including even Elizabeth or Mary), maybe- but not as a first name.
Very funny, c_q.
No comment on births.
Went to yoga class this morning. Then biking with our friends, the yoga rabbi and his fiancee (who doesn’t ride very fast, alas). Back for a bit and then to a birthday for my friend/business partner/coauthor, which is also a benefit for a charity. I’m never sure how much to donate to this kind of thing (I often donate a fair bit and have to do it for several events a year. In this case, I donated more than I would have paid for a gift, but not a large amount). Adam Gopnik spoke as part of the benefit. Fascinating, articulate, simultaneously glib and deep on a wide variety of subjects.
I do sometimes wish I could concentrate all of the donation on the charities of my choice rather than spreading it around and really want to find a charity that would combine my skills and my money. I did offer my services to teach at a university in Vietnam as I was taken by the up-beat, can-do and pro- rather than anti-American attitudes that I encountered. Given what I have to offer and my reputation, I would think they would be thrilled, but I haven’t heard anything since one of my colleagues recommended me.
I feel like my support has more of an impact when it can be concentrated on one or a very few charities, but like you I end up giving to support friends’ causes. I hope to be able to give more when I am no longer paying college costs.
Weekend was busy. Yoga on Sat. then chores, then had some friends over for dinner and Derby watching before euchre group. Went to brunch with a friend yesterday and then downtown to a few of the Smithsonian Galleries. Way too much to see, we need to go back.
Anxiously awaiting to hear the name of the new princess (and she is a beautiful baby!). I am betting on Elizabeth as that should please the queen. I can’t imagine that she would be called “Princess Diana” but I see Diana and Charlotte (for Charles) as middle names.
In a photo I prefer to keep hidden from family albums taken shortly after birth, mcson looks like captain Picard and I look like some vampire drained me of every ounce of blood…and life…Telling
Cranked up the heat on the pool this weekend, floated, planted flowers, drank wine and generally enjoyed myself! I’d given mcson’s gf an early birthday/end of term present of an overnight at a resort a few hours from here. They had a great time. So did I
As much as I enjoyed the solitude, it was still adorable when they returned last night and played in the pool like puppies. They are so cute together and I’m so lucky to have them around to enjoy!
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana! Yeah! Beautiful, great choice!
Yeah, when I said Charlotte Diana Elizabeth yesterday I was predicting with my heart instead of my head. I woke up this morning telling H that of course Elizabeth would have to come before Diana.
H gets Super Brownie Points for all the work he did at Mom’s house. He pretty much cleared a forest and uncovered an overgrown patio on his own. By the end of the first afternoon of yard work we had filled 5 barrels with branches, cuttings, etc. I don’t think I have pulled as many weeds in my life, cumulatively, as I did over the long weekend. We trimmed, sawed branches, dug out. H edged, we killed weeds. I power washed Mom’s brick side walk (mud flying everywhere!). Made her a pot roast dinner. More yard work. Oh yeah, and yesterday steam cleaned her carpet. Three days of “rest” (i.e. working at my paying job), then we drive to younger D’s school to move her home for the summer.
I have two in-person meetings today and look like death warmed over and feel worse. I have allergens from Illinois spring and Texas spring in my system that I’m sneezing out. Fortunately the meetings don’t start until 1pm so I have a few hours to become human again.
We will be home by Saturday and the day will be hair salon, yoga, brow salon…maybe I can fit a pedicure in there, too. All I know is that my own yard work and house work will be sorely neglected for a while.
Wow, really close on the name, MP!
Gearing up to host a posse in honor of my SIL’s graduation from her masters program. Sadly, I am not the hostess with the mostess. And, it is scheduled to rain all week. ALL week. So, no pushing folks out onto the deck. Ah well.
Want my sangria recipe?
About 20 people attended the New Orleans theme party we did on Sunday. I served creole deviled eggs, Zapps chips that I had sent from New Orleans, Muffulettas,Creole tomato Salsa, veggies with Cajun Dip, Shimp po’boys, beef tenderloin with horseradish sauce and arugula po’boys, crawfish ettouffee, jambalya, red beans and rice, bread pudding, lemon icebox pie, and pralines. Repeat last night for some friends that always come for leftovers the next night. Of course we had hurricanes with everything. Not bad. Weather was great and we managed to get through the bead making fairly quickly.
RM, sounds terrific! More than terrific actually, as I sit here at my desk eating a pathetic lunch,
RM I think the bus needs to stop at your house too!
I do like to hostess things. I did order from New Orleans the Muffelatta bread, the po’boy bread, the olive spread for the Muffelattas and the Zapps chips. Had to have the “RIGHT” stuff.
Oh,RM!!! Sounds absolutely delicious! I want leftovers! What an incredible feast! Did you take pictures? I bet the spread looked wonderful!
I am trying to get ready to leave for Florida this weekend. Of course H thinks he doesn’t need to get anything ready but I looked at his shorts and swimming trunks and he needs some new items! We are heading over to D2’s this evening for more painting so he won’t get out for any shopping tonight. Do you all wear shorts in the summer when you go out for a casual event? I am starting to feel like I shouldn’t. When I do wear them they are longer, just about knee length or I do wear some Eddie Bauer skorts. I’m not a capri person but I do like the ankle cropped length pant. I don’t want to dress matronly but I don’t want to wear short shorts either!
My yard is greening up and the hostas and ferns are pushing up through the ground! No blooms on my crab apple tree yet but It should be soon! Will get my annuals when I get back from vacation.
H took picts. I didn’t do anything fancy for serving. Somethings were just in crock pots. I wanted the food to be good and tasty but didn’t want it too fancy if that makes any sense so very low key on the delivery.
I do wear shorts. I figure if I’m comfortable I really don’t care what people think of all my jiggling.
That being said if I’m going out other than to the grocery store or some quick errands I usually try to put on longer shorts, a comfortable dress, capris or ankle pants. Just me. Crab apple tree looked like it was just starting to bloom when I left the house this morning so I expect it to start looking really nice in the next couple of days. Doesn’t last long though!
Feeling weird this afternoon – an old (101!) family friend died yesterday; she was the rapping granny from the Wedding Singer – but very close friends with H’s family since he was a baby. I was just looking at one of our wedding pictures, and she was the last one living of all of the guests who were of our parents’ generation. And now I’m tearing up.
Hugs arabrab. Time does feel unrelenting, eh?
So where is that bus anyway! I’m ready to get outta here! Crazy work shenanigans.
I’m looking forward to the weekend and a visit from mom because we’re planning a cruise together for next post-xmas season. Mch will be on duty entertaining her bf though, which is not unlike talking to a demented Andy Rooney at times.
I suspect the fact that mom and I are taking a girls cruise with the sisters is an indication that she’s ready for a wee break from the bf
I’ve been suggesting it to her since dad died.
Sounds to me like mch deserves a prize or more.
RM, That food sounds delicious!
NM, Have a great trip to Florida.
arabrab, So sorry about your friend. There was a clip this morning on the Today Show about her. It may be online on their website if you missed it.
Hugs Arabrab!
