Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

I’m hoping FOURTH time’s the charm!

I dunno, c_q. I’d be tempted to leave it on the street with the keys inside.

Glad the dress was a success for Pieson’s fiance. We funded our wedding ourselves, and people were still talking about how much they enjoyed the wedding a year later, even if we didn’t serve hot food or have waiters.

I’m looking forward to meeting the kitty that lives in D’s apartment, but from the frequent “ow!” reactions I hear on the phone, she has an ingrained habit of kneading D with her claws extended. That was the reason our kitty ended up spending nights in the laundry room – nothing like being sound asleep only to feel a love pat from a cat followed by just the tiniest prick of claws through the sheet.

(And did you see the video of the mama bear with the 5 cubs frolicking in the backyard pool in NJ? Really cute, but I wonder how many claw holes were punched through the walls of the free-standing pool?)

aaarabrab, the bear video is a hoot. (D would now ask me what that even means 8-| ).
There have been lots of criticism about the commentary and the 3 year old being upset that the cubs ruined his floaty.
It was really too bad the parent did not reassure the kid that he would get a new one and how what fun the cubs were having. No blame to a 3 yr old but to the parent for losing a teaching moment and a moment of making kid feel safe.

Morning all. Back from a wonderful week at Cape Cod. Grandson really got to know us. Yes we live close but we only usually see him once a week. Other grandma sees him basically daily since she doesn’t work and goes over to S & DILs house every day. That would drive me nuts!

We had great weather and lots of sun. We rented a little popup tent for the baby and he seemed to like it – kept the sun off him – worried that he would get burned.

Now H and I are planning a trip to NH for mid Oct just the 2 of us.

Glad you had a great week.

I have two starting school today. Both are in living arrangements that are new to them, so I hope they are able to focus on school.

Good Morning all! Back from spending a week in the midwest visiting my parents and MIL. It was a good visit, nothing exciting but all are as well as can be expected. Catching up at work and at home and hosting my work book club tomorrow evening. We usually meet at lunch time, but the ladies are coming to my house for food and wine. Weather should be perfect.
S still has 3 more weeks before going to his new school across the pond. I don’t let him know but this is getting to me much more than when he went last year.

I so want to be back on vacation. Boss is being a real pain in the you know where. Started as soon as I got back.

Good morning! Hex upon rm-boss
I’m just weighing in on that bear video, which I finally saw…I have the exact same raft and am very attached to it, since it set me back $180…I must say if this happened to me it would be a good thing we disposed of our shotgun a few years back  I think I might ave started chasing the bear!

FallGirl what an exciting time for your S!!! I was working on my London scrapbook over the weekend and wishing I could go back! Are you planning a visit? I hope he has the opportunity to travel while he is there.

RM,is the boss from Hades just difficult with you or the entire department? Can you document his actions and lay a groundwork for proving he has set up a hostile work environment? Can you get any relief from HR? I feel so bad for you! :frowning:

Boss is a pain with everyone although I do believe that I do take more than my share. I have started documenting. I have also noticed it’s when he isn’t getting his way or he’s stressed about something that it starts to get really bad. Comment yesterday about he didn’t want to get dragged in to the middle of something with our customer. My response (that I didn’t say) was – You do it to yourself. You allow it to happen. We do not contractually have the requirement to make sure that the other vendors stuff “works”. We can only babysit them so far. Our customer should be the one driving it and not us. Think system with multiple parts from different vendors. We supply one piece of the system. Now he allows himself to get dragged into these things and then makes it so that I need to support the other pieces of the system - which I do not know  He also wants things immediately and can’t understand when people need to go off and check things. So he wants basically everyone to be as miserable as he is. I know that he is working with HR. I think someone (well I know that someone) indicated to HR that he had created a bad working environment. Thing is I don’t see an improvement and she (yup another female) has “left” the company - I think her life was made even more miserable after she filed.

Sorry to hear about that, RM. Time to move if you can. Really. Life is too short.

We are up in the Laurentians at ShawWife’s family house (we and another sister have it now). We are with her childhood friend whose family bought much of the area generations ago and he is trying to buy more. Great guy who wanted to marry into ShawWife’s family – he pursued each of the three girls without success and later married a woman who does not like the country (he comes up every weekend on his own – sad). ShawWife and ShawD are on the traditional female hike every day over the “mountain” and then skinny-dipping in one of the two lakes (has no houses and is on private property, mostly owned by our friend and he’s trying to buy the rest). I’m in his house overlooking the other lake. ShawWife is allergic to our house – too much mold. If we really want to come here, we need to agree with SIL to knock down the house and rebuild. Probably $200K each. Since I want to buy a place in the Rockies, this is not my first choice but ShawWife, ShawSon and ShawD love this place.

Great to be with ShawSon and ShawD.

D is taking a major 8 hour test as I type–Please send positive energy!
Her BF arrives tonight. Please let us really like him!
H and I have been doing those really important things like wiping down the condiments and fridge and getting rid of that last bit of jelly. I hate being at someone’s house and picking up crudy salt and pepper shakers and the like.
Of course D would think we were nuts if she knew.
Fingers crossed that she does well!
Also, please do not let it rain this week. We are going to have to cancel the party pontoon boat for my 65th celebration if it does :frowning:

Happy birthday Oregon. Sending positive vibes all around!

Although I don’t personally condone hunting, I’m loving the visual image!

RM, since HR is onto your boss, if he just told one really off-color joke, or uttered just one racial slur, he’d probably be out the door. I had a client at the VP level who, according to him, was fired just for referring to something in a very vulgar way one time and was overheard by his secretary. I didn’t believe for a minute that he was fired for only that. I assumed that HR was onto him and they were just waiting for him to do one more bad thing.

HR rep called me today as I had blind copied her into an email that I sent my boss basically giving facts and that yelling at me without all the info was not acceptable. She indicated that there have been complaints. Asked me if I liked my job (meaning the work) if he wasn’t there. Well yes. I just need to be treated like an adult. Goodness I’m actually older than my boss! I do not like being treated like a 2 year old and I won’t stand for it! So her recommendation was to call him out on it when it occurs in email – not sure maybe she wants backup data.

RM, thanks, it was the 12th but we waited due to many conflicts.
Good Luck and sorry it is so stressful at work.

I think having HR admit to me that I wasn’t the only one to complain helped.

Well even if it’s not the actual DAY still have a Happy 2nd Birthday celebration this year!

The long awaited auto document arrived today, with a note explaining why they couldn’t complete our request, and what signatures/additional documents we need to fill out now. This car is never going to be registered! We are planning on leaving tomorrow for a mini-vacation to take S back to school. H is looking to rent a car. This has been very frustrating.

Oregon, when I’m expecting company I suddenly notice how dirty and disgusting everything in my home is.

RM, sorry for your job frustration. I had one supervisor I could not work with. Tried for 2.5 years, then realized it was never going to work out. After I left I wondered why I hadn’t done it earlier. But it was for a second, part-time job and wasn’t my primary source of income. Sounds like HR could be your ally? I hope so.

C_q, you and your H are intelligent, together, mature adults. If people like you can’t negotiate all the red tape to get your car registered, who can???

Have a nice mini-vacation,c_q. It took only two tries to get D’s former car registered here. Way too stressful.

MP – I hope the kids got a good start in school. Is PieSon’s apartment somewhat fully furnished now?

RM – just ugh. Jerks are not fun, and jerks at work are worse.
