The eclipse was awesome. We also had neighbors out and about.
kmc, sounds complex with ex’s and friends. Did all go well?
We had a great weekend after a crazy week. I was in NY Monday/Tuesday AM, made it home for dinner for Yom Kippur, and had a rush trip Thursday night to Germany for a 9-12 meeting and then back late Friday night. A bit too much happening. Relaxing Saturday – a short cycle, some work, then a party at one of ShawWife’s friends (a bit weird as it was the birthday of her husband who died this past year and she is convinced he is somehow still there communicating with her, but who knows, and she and her family are lovely). Then Sunday was great. Yoga, a bit of work, went to see a Sondheim play called A Little Night Music that starred a college teammate of mine (I didn’t even know he was an actor but he has had a real career on Broadway – but he was/is incredibly handsome and confident as well as a very good athlete), stopped in at a pop-up show of one of ShawWife’s good friends, then dinner at a little Brazilian hole in the wall that serves great fish stew (moqueca) and feijoada. Then, we went out with our neighbors to the local field to see the eclipse. Fun.
My teammate was very good (the whole cast, actually) and the female lead was exceptional. I hate musicals and this was excellent, more like an opera than a musical. I have been trying to get to that Brazilian restaurant and was really happy we went there. And after the week I had, the yoga class was really needed.
My college roommate had the Little Night Music Broadway cast album, which was in heavy rotation along with Chorus Line and Annie. I used to like it but now I find the waltz/3/4 time to be a bit tedious. But it would be cool to see someone I know star in anything.
H and I kept running outside to check on the eclipse during commercial breaks from the CSI finale. (We’ve watched on and off over the years, but since there was nothing better on TV last night …) The eclipse was wonderful AND it was very cool to see so many more stars! (With the moon dark, more stars were visible.)
I spent a couple days in Cambridge last week. Thursday night I hosted Book Club, which required cleaning the first floor of the condo. I then decided as long as I was in the cleaning mode I should just go ahead and do the entire place since we’ll be moving back for the season pretty soon. At least my fall cleaning is done!
Wednesday night we’re having a family dinner (including D’s BF, since they’re living together) before sending S off to Europe (fun) and then on to South Korea (work/Air Force).
Meanwhile, H and the wife of the couple we’re going to Spain with are busy nailing down details/itineraries. We’ve had a couple of FaceTime sessions with them, and I’m pretty sure we’ll need a vacation after our vacation! It’s all good though – and I’m happy not to be doing most of the planning.
Spain sounds lovely! Looking forward to seeing your photos!
H and I will be heading to Palm Springs with another couple at the beginning of October. Looks like golf, hiking and laying by the pool are on our schedules. I have the CSI finale on the DVR. I will miss the show.
My awful cold has reappeared. Yuck…
Your all so lucky you got to see th eclipse! Total cloud cover here ;(
Party went well, someone got him a morph suit, which led to hilarity…gf had a really crazy cake “printed” with pic of mcson’s face on an embryo. Etc.
The old gf BFF/new gf thing went fine…old gf BFF and I had had a long chat am prior. She was uber sweet to the new gf.
Whew, kmcmom. Glad that went well.
We had a lovely weekend in New Mexico, topped by a fabulous view of the eclipse in a sky littered with stars. The Milky Way was remarkably bright. Aspens were gorgeous, the steam train experience was fascinating, and I think I am permanently signing up for a seat in the parlor car on any future train trip! That is definitely the genteel way to travel by rail.
Tomorrow I need to go for a long, long walk after a long drive home today. Maybe two walks.
Snow is projected in the high country tomorrow.
OMG, not snow
Based on the forecast of below 70 every day and cool nights, I need to turn the pool heater off today…but I don’t want to! Makes me feel so sad!
Think I will take one more dip this am and then try to think up some fall activities to distract myself…like kayaking!
Need some advice people.
H was out of town from Friday through Monday. I don’t sleep well when he is gone so make that 3 nights of little to no sleep. Had a cold that I was getting over before he left. It’s back again! Stuffy with a headache from the pressure. Didn’t get up either Mon or today to go the gym. Just so tired. I can’t take a day off from work to sleep – 2 weeks from release and the pressure is on. So any suggestions on how I make up sleep and get rid of this cold? I was doing good on my new diet. Now it is just blown as I only have so much energy. Thoughts? Any suggestions? I feel like I’m living on caffeine.
So sorry you aren’t sleeping RM. The best thing that works for me is soaking in an epsom salt warm bath and using a lavender lotion before I go to bed. I have also started taking magnesium. I am sleeping better at the momement. Try to continue eating healthy as that will help with your cold. Good luck!
^ Are you able to nap , RM? (some people can and some can’t). If you can maybe that will help. Also, besides work, do nothing but take care of yourself. Rest and drink lots of liquid. Hope you are better soon.
Finally some actual communication from S. He is very happy so far, just started classes, meeting a lot of people. Long may it last. Fingers crossed that he still feels this way a few months from now.
I can nap - if I had time during the day. Work from 7-4 and usually eat lunch at my desk. I try to be good about getting out at 4 but that can easily turn in to 5 or 6. Slept better last night now that H is home. I don’t get why I can’t sleep when he isn’t there but I can’t. Once we get the hot tub filled soaking will help
We drain it in the summer as it’s in our basement.
I’m finding that I can eat well balanced meals and not snack on bad things if I’m not bored and if I’m not tired. If either of these is true it’s a real challenge! I guess knowing that though is helpful.
Using and online site to keep track of my food and I fill it out the night before. Makes it easier for me as if it’s not on the list then I can’t eat it – or that is what I’m telling myself. Maybe things will be easier once I’ve done this for a while.
RM, is there a place where you can do “legs up the wall” during the day?
http://www.doyouyoga.com/5-health-benefits-legs-wall-posture/
When I am really stressed/exhausted, 5-10 minutes of legs up the wall (esp with soothing music) is almost as good as a nap.
No legs up the wall here - the carpet isn’t the nicest.
I would say that today I’m drinking a lot of peppermint tea (no caffeine) and it seems to be helping a bit - probably the steam but whatever works.
Maybe I can take a nap late this afternoon after I get home - or just go to be even earlier than I usually do!
I go the other way. Caffeine or exercise. One or two one minute planks and I will be fully awake. But, is congestion the issue (other than lack of DH)?
HI Shaw. Really it’s both. Had a cold, was almost over it and then the weekend came and little/no sleep which brought the cold back. So have a cold and no sleep - making me tired and congested.
Slept better last night now that H is home. I have NO idea why I can’t sleep when he is out of town but I can’t – I have a 90 lb dog so it’s not that I feel unprotected and we live in a really safe area… Must just be that I’m used to him being there.
Have you tried Meletonin? Need only 1 mg and take a few hours before bed. The spray under the tongue works well for most. I tend to get a headache from it but perhaps you wouldn’t.
We did get away for a few days and it was wonderful. We have had such beautiful weather. Hiked out to the light house yesterday–7 miles. It is flat and so my shins really hurt last night. I think slight hills are easier on the feet and legs. And 7 is just a bit too much now.
Entertained again this past Sunday. It was fun but I am taking a entertaining free period for awhile.
I shudder to think of how much $ we have spent lately --I figured out there have been 28 people to feed in the last 3 weeks! Again, fun for me but still…
D just made her reservation to come home for 6 months in the beginning of Nov. We just put out our beautiful
Pakistani rug that we keep in storage because we do not want dog hair on it. Also, the scat mats that keep her from excitedly scratching the door are also gone. It is like having a toddler around–dog beds a dog stuff instead of a child’s.
Actual college-related post of the day:
I wish I would have had as much money in college as my kids do/did. (And a car!)
It’s not like my kids are rolling in dough, but compared to the amount of spending money I had (pretty much enough for laundry and a modest Sunday night dinner), they can do so many more fun things.
So very Sad–13 dead and 20 injured at a CC that is about 3 hours south from me.
The shooter is dead.
Small community. This CC is know for it’s innovative sudies in wine production with a population more in the 30’s than the 20’s. I hope not many children lost a mother or father today.
So sorry to hear about this, oregon. It is so sad.
