Oooooh, congrats to your D, NMinn! How long have they been dating? (Yeah, I’m old(er) – my memory stinks sometimes …)
NM, how exciting! I’m thrilled…as long as you’re thrilled, that is…you like him, don’t you?
CBB, I’m glad your son is getting to travel a lot before settling down in South Korea. Too bad about the phone.
Younger D’s roommate still hasn’t moved in…and she’s the one who was bringing the pots and pans.
NM, so happy for D1! You like him, right?
Congrats to NM’s D1!
Nothin too exciting to report here. Just the slapstick comedy of mcmom versus the maple tree (and the rest of the forest) for the week prior to pool closing. Had shut the heater dwn quite early in an attempt to get te water to drop below 60 a tad earlier…and instead the water temp has now gone up four degrees from a few days ago. Might as well ave enjoyed the last two weeks with the heater on instead! Leaf raking the pool actually reminds me a lot of TAi chi…except of course it zaps all my chi!
My mom and her bf came here for Canadian thanksgiving with mcson, gf, mch and I. Nice time and much to be thankful for, at least on my side of the family.
Mch’s sister and her son, by contrast, seem beleagured by strife – cancer, financial problems, bickering, sudden death of an inlaw, a spouse with fibromyalgia, etc. Its quite terrible to hear from afar, and we feel helpless. And at the same time, fortunate, if that makes any sense. In a guilty way. It seems half the drama though is sponsored by attitude, not just the external and terrible events. I may burn in hell for saying so, but better I say it here than there
Coping skills are so essential in facing hard times. It’s sad we as a society don’t always embrace opportunities to positively instill them…instead, treating everything as 'disease" - such a reactionary model!
In other news, my friend who returned to Turkey this summer was spared in the Ankara protests. Neither of us really understand all the nuances of the fractioned relations among Islamic sects, Kurds, etc. I think I need cliff notes to understand the Middle East these days.
In short, I just wish she’d come come!
^home, that is
Congrats to your D1, NM!
Such exciting news. Congratulations to your daughter, NM. Have fun with the wedding, FallGirl.
FallGirl, have you told us what you’re wearing to the wedding?
NM many congratulations!
FallGirl, your D’s wedding sounds gorgeous. You made it seem so easy to plan and am sure it will be a wonderful day.
kmc, agree about those cliff notes for the Middle East!
mp, hope you get a nice soothing weekend sonn.
c_q, You alwasy seem so patient about the delays in you travels, I would be ranting away!
CB, I laughed when I read that you did not even find out how his phone got stolen. Probably nothing terrible but put itin his back pocket or something. But still…will make for an interesting talk at some other time.
Staying in LAS one short ight with my B and SIL. It is always difficult to stay with them, although he and I are close,
as they have been “TIRED” always and no one takes charge, the TV is on at all times, they go out to smoke.
Food is irregular. I made it so we will arrive in the evening and then leave in the morning.
Sadly, SIL has has a family history of breast cancer and recently found out she has a small mass…so they are
spinning and seeking more opinions. It should be an interesting 12 hours.
Her is the link to my dress:
My shoes are just navy closed toe pumps- very basic.
Oregon - so sorry to hear about your SIL- I hope she is OK.
Oooh, very pretty, FallGirl!
Oregon, we have an employee who is newer than me, and he doesn’t seem to handle travel delays and unexpected technical issues very well. I’m really glad they don’t bother me. I wonder how long he’ll last!
I just got an assignment to travel to the middle east (UAE) in early December - pretty exciting!
^ That does sound exciting, c_q.
Yes, UAE does sound like an exciting opportunity. Hope you enjoy.
Hope your SIL is okay, oregon. I am visiting my sister and took her for a needle biopsy this morning since her mammogram and ultrasound were not conclusive, It will be an anxious couple of days until we get the results.
Love the dress, FallGirl. Very classy!
Sevmom, I hope your sister is OK.
Keeping sevmom’s and oregon’s SIL’s in my thoughts and prayers!
Sounds like an adventure cq! Hope you get to do some sightseeing!
FallGirl…that dress is beautiful! Absolutely LOVE it! So excited for you!
D1 has been dating her fiance for a year. He is very, very nice and super helpful to us. I am having trouble getting attached due to her past relationship that devastated her for some time. It is my issue so I will have to work at it. They are talking about waiting for another year for the wedding.
Love the dress ! Thanks for the link.
Love the dress, fallgirl!
Northminn - congrats to your D! So glad to hear she found another match!
c_q! Exciting about the UAE! Does your D have any advice for you? Arabic was her major, right?
Dubai is interesting – like Disneyland on steroids.
I hope all is well with Oregon SIL and sevmom S.
Agree with CQ FallGirl - what a lovely dress!
NM Congrats to your D
Oregon - I’m always tired too.
Maybe it’s because I get up at 4:15? That being said I would NEVER be such a downer to indicate that I was exhausted. It does come out late in the day though as I make stupid mistakes both at work and at home!
Unfortunately relatives can take a toll on us. I haven’t enjoyed a Thanksgiving in 31 years. EVERY Thanksgiving is spent with my H’s family. They are taxing to say the least.
G’son is doing great and DIL is just starting to show with the next one. They will be 15 months apart.
Sendin the sisters the light
Gorgeous dress, Fallgirl!
CQ, sounds like your “new” job is packed with excitement
NM, my mom used to always say it was too heartbreaking to get “attached” to any of the girl’s significant others. At one point after my divorce, she actually asked not to meet new guys I was dating!
I think she softened on mch around year six of dating, and even she began to wonder if I’d get around to remarrying … Or not
On one hand, no wine before its time. On another, just try to enjoy the ride
Have any of you read Fates and Furies yet? Such mixed reviews…genius or pendantic. Curious.
