Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

@Arabrab - my D and I went to the costume exhibit at the Met on Memorial Day. It was wonderful!

S put down a deposit on a law school back in April, but hasn’t started to look for housing yet because he was waiting to see if a wait list he’s on opened up. Well, this week, a different law school he was admitted to came back and offered him full tuition. He only has a partial scholarship at his deposited school. So he’s visiting tomorrow to look it over.

So cool. Full tuition is a BIG DEAL. Law school is so expensive! (Salaries at the top NYC and international firms just went to $180,000 a year, but the spots are relatively few.)

Happy anniversary to cq and nm!

Wow, free tuition for law school! Great news . Hope the school is a good fit when he visits it.

Happy anniversary to C_Q and NM and their respective H’s.

Congrats to C_Q 's S. That wonderful.

Nice for him to have options, c_q!

Congrats.

Kudos, CQ, and happy anniversaries to CQ and nm!

That carpool karaoke was hilarious.I’ve not gotten to see Hamilton yet. Time for a trip

The gf who I often take trips with sprung one on me for next month that i just can’t make. The lead singer from Tragically Hip has brain cancer and is doing a farewell tour. So she, who spends summers between Ottawa and Newfoundland, bought two tickets to the first show in Victoria BC, aka, the other side of the country, presumably figuring she could talk me into going. Which would normally be true

But mcson’s gf’s family from MN are staying here until the day before, and then I am hosting my extended family for a campout for my mom’s 75th the weekend after, so I just can’t make sense of the travel time for a few days in BC when I’ve gotta prep the compound ;(

In other news, t-minus 5 days until mcson and gf move into their new digs together. Their excitement is hilarious and cute.

If I thought the shenanigans around selecting my slate for my floors last winter was ridiculous, I was naive. Selecting a new liner for our pool is even worse.

I was hopeful on the pattern my h likes … But out of an abundance of caution, I managed to purchase a large, 6x9 swath of it to really test for color in the pool from an online fabricator.

It arrived yesterday, and both mch and I were surprised by how dark it looked in the pool.

I’ve since found in-pool pics of another that I truly loved, and just my luck, its only available in Canada. I might resort to paying a Canadian fabricator to make it and having my local guy install it. Come to think of it, that’s about what happened with the slate too…ended up purchasing the actual stone from a BC distributor.

There must be some residual canukishness in my tastes

How do you feel about poutine, kmcmom?

I was bummed out to read about the cancer diagnosis. One of Kurt Browning’s fabulous exhibitions was to a piece the Tragically Hip composed for him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48HQwU-VhyE

Our roofing project has now turned into a roof and gutter project and it looks like some mudjacking is moving into the mix. Yuck.

^depends on whether or not I’m drunk. When drunk at 4 a.m., poutine is awesome  Does that mean I’m only Canukistanian when drunk?

Yes, I was sad also to hear about Gord. Back in the day, I actually dated his former bassist…who left the group to get his phd in polysci  And believe me, id fly to BC for the tour start any other time…just that my inner host won’t let me do so amidst these circumstances.

Re roofing projects run wild…I’ve settled on the shingle I want (presidential triple laminated, looks like shake) but mch keeps cooking up new fresh hell on the observatory plans so were in for another addendum quote before we get rolling!

He’s also sent his collector 1970 jag in for a long overdue mechanical fix up and body job, so the possibility of eating cat food in my old age is increasing exponentially this year

S visited the law school offering full tuition yesterday and has decided to attend. He liked it a lot, they have very nice subsidized housing, and their bar passage rates and employment rates are respectable.

Cq, that is terrific!!! So impressed. Students who graduate without debt have a lot more options.

^ Really true. The legal recruiter for the state public defender’s office told me that lots of applicants simply can’t make the job work because they are sitting on way too much in student loan debt.

Both kids are home. D came home on Friday and we ran a 5K together yesterday (my first). Of course she ran way ahead of me  , but I was pleased with my finish time and now have a goal to lower that. And it was fun!
Picked up S at the airport last night, he was exhausted from a long day of traveling from London. He won’t hear from his interview for a few more weeks and won’t have his grades until after that.

H’s birthday is Tuesday, but the 4 of us are celebrating today before D goes back. H and I are seeing Jackson Browne on Tuesday which was a happy coincidence.

Congratulations on the run FallGirl!

We have a house in the Laurentians, where poutine is a thing. Poutine in its basic form is, to me, really gross. But, in Montreal, I have eaten at several restaurants who have made upscale poutine with things like sweet potatoes and foie gras that have been surprisingly good.

ShawSon and GF are visiting from California this week. ShawD is packing and working in her RN job. She’s not really focused on where to live or what to do until she gets back.

Had a type of poutine today at the MN Twins baseball game. It was Buffalo chicken and Blue cheese poutine. Fabulous french fries with a layer of shredded buffalo chicken and then a blue cheese sauce on top. I shared it with several family members but I have to say I wish I could have eaten the whole thing!

Anyone watching the Tonys??? What talent!!!

Yes, incredible!

I’m watching!

Watched with H while texting with older D and her BF. Son is still honeymooning in the Pacific time zone so he said no spoilers and is just now watching.
