Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

KMC - hope you feel better soon!

MP - You must be a saint! No way would I be able to sign up for something like that. I can barely stand the 2 or 3 times a year that I have to put up with my MIL for a couple of days! As much as I love my H I might have reconsidered marriage if I knew that she would STILL be around and STILL be such a b****. Sorry but even H doesn’t really like her!!!

Still have my cold and probably because I did too much this weekend. Didn’t get everything I wanted done but managed to get a LOT done!! Still would have been nice to have moved faster and managed a day of sewing instead of just a few hours. Oh well - I have this Friday off as well. I don’t know if H is working Friday but I hope so. That way I can get some stuff done with out him around.

Wedding dress shopping again with D late this afternoon. Came in early to make up getting out a 1/2 hour early. Yup, I just don’t stop!

Oregon, sounds like you have a good attitude.

I presented the idea to Mom over the phone on Friday. She initially said that they were all too old and pathetic to see each other. Then she said it would be too expensive. Then she said she would think about it. What will happen is that she will think about it and worry about it and take months to decide until it’s not a good time for me to go, then she can feel sorry for herself about that.

Have fun with the wedding dress shopping, RM.

Mp,GADS!!!

H does Not think I have a good attitude. He is sleeping and we are at a beautiful harbor and it is not raining! With a very different husband I would be out hiking now!
I insisted on a room with a view, although it confused them as our first room was larger. But now I can look at the Harbor at midnight and only slightly think of throttling my H in his slumber.
Beautiful full daylight now.

But very fun being here with Iceland winning!!!

I drive H nuts. When we were paying for dinner in the “nice dining” restaurant I added two desserts for a young and cute couple sitting near us. The waiters were confused. Asked if we knew them…um, no. Mentioned the idea of passing it on…one guy said, I Have
heard of that!"
Then went into a wool store (gives me hives even touching a sweater however beautiful they are).
The woman there was beautiful! And I told her so! We has a wonderful talk about her family and life. She was 76!
Looks 55. Made feel very frumpy indeed. Somehow the women dress down, no makeup, and are so picturesque.
Fun evening.

Oregon, I totally thought of you when I saw that Iceland won.

Good grief, Missy re your mom!

Well, in terms of the diverticulitis, I’ve certainly turned the corner. But I’ve had a nasty reaction to the Meds and can barely walk at the moment. Very ticked off at myself for not doing my usual due diligence on the drugs prescribed but i was acute…

i hardly ever take any kind of Meds to begin with so I was completely ignorant of issues around Cipro and tendons/joints etc. Went to doc yesterday and he switched me to something else immediately.

Hoping this goes away and the damage is not permanent, but I’m mad as hell that in the 21st Century we can’t get more precise than mass-Meds. We should be at a place where drugs are tailored to personal genome…you know, like Star Trek

Instead big pharma and the FDA play this idiotic game of “majority” reactions…okay, Nuff said. Very cranky when I’m in pain!

Hope things turn around KMC!!

Oregon - sounds like for the most part you are enjoying the trip. I too would be sleeping at midnight. I need at least 8 hours to even be human!

We have achieved dress success!!! Here is the link: https://www.justinalexanderbridal.com/signature_wedding_dresses/9827 She will be altering it a bit to put some cloth in the dip in the front. She didn’t like that but we tried it with a kleenex and she will make it more a sweetheart underneath (or the alterations will). Looks stunning on her and has an understated elegance that I think is lovely. Only one in the store that was even somewhat like it. She likes the fact that it is somewhat unique.

Sending the get well thoughts, kmc.

I am another who needs my sleep and wonder about the 21 hours of daylight!

Love, love ,love the dress RM!

Oh I love the dress! I’m so excited now!!!

Kmc, my father had a bad, enduring reaction to Cipro. When my ENT prescribed it for an ear infection I refused to take it because I am physically very similar to my dad and didn’t want to take the risk. (Anthrax I’ll risk it. Otherwise, no.) I went back and forth with the ENT, with him absolutely refusing to prescribe anything else, minimizing the risk of an adverse reaction. I healed without an antibiotic. Hoping your reaction is very temporary.

D is small and well anything with lace really looked like she was wearing a tablecloth. This is much more understated but still has the bling that she likes. Although she kept saying she wanted casual and no train. Well - guess when you see something all that goes out the window.

Missy…you are a better person than me!

kmc…hope you feel better soon. Tough to have your meds make you feel worse. Take care!

oregon…have fun! I bet the view is lovely.

RM…Yay! I bet you are relieved to find the dress! How exciting!

I am currently sitting in a hotel room in Fargo, ND. Interesting little town but I know I wouldn’t want to life here.

Anyone have big 4th of July plans? We are heading up to the lake for 10 days. Right now it looks like we will have family and friends off and on throughout our stay. I seem to make all of the same foods so I have been looking on Pinterest for something new. Anyone have some great family recipes for a BBQ/cook out? I am tired of being in the kitchen when everyone is outside so I have been using crockpot recipes for making potatoes, shredded pork/chicken sandwiches.

Well, my mother thinks she will get sick if she takes a trip so she is waiting until she sees her normal cardiologist in mid-July, which will make the late July trip I had in mind impossible. She’s just to busy being unhappy to try to be happy.

I’ve never been to ND. One of the few states I haven’t visited which is odd since we have spent so much time in central MN.

I’ve been to lots of the states but not to Minnesota. Would love to get there someday. Just passed through ND by train but H had relatives from there. Since S2 is moving to Denver, I may try to get to ND at some point.

We are taking a 10 day road trip tomorrow from Virginia-will get to Kentucky, Nashville, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and DC. Part sightseeing and part seeing family. Lots of time in the car but we have a lot of CD’s to listen to that we gathered up that we haven’t listened to in awhile. Happy 4th of July!

Never been to ND and no real plans for the 4th. We will be going on the 3rd to S’s for a picnic and swimming potentially but that is all.

NM for cook outs I try to do a lot of stuff a head. I do potato, fruit and pasta salads - all cold that I can make a head and just pull out at the correct time. For meats I have a recipe for ribs that I actually boil and then just grill for a short time period with some sauce. Again easy. I typically do dessert easy also as ice cream sundaes so make brownies a head and then just take out a lot of ice cream and fixings. Also I do beans either a head of time in the oven or do in the crockpot. So again easy. Hot dogs/ sausage/ burgers are also always easy. Also I will marinate chicken breasts and then just grill. Again super easy. I typically like the grill as everyone will just sit around while H cooks.

You’re making me hungry RM.

Managed to break my arm out in California last week, so that pretty much tossed other plans for the moment. Typing is not so easy – good thing I know how to work dictation. It mostly works. Being injured reminded me how very nice and helpful most people are. The folks at the hotel, the ER staff, and everybody at the airport made it all a lot easier. Heck, southwest even gave me a $59 credit because my same day return flight turned out to be cheaper then the plans return flight!

Minor engineering grump: when they were designing MRI machines why couldn’t they figure out how to put cooling in the bottom of the machine? I’m not claustrophobic, but 45 minutes laying on top of what felt like two heating pads turned on high was like a never ending hot flash. Ugh.

H has been wonderful, but it is annoying to see how many things I cannot do with only one arm. This too shall pass.

So sorry to hear that, arabrab. Hope your arm is healing okay.

Arabrab, so sorry!

Arabrab, so sorry.
I will not even complain again about this difficult vacation☔️.
Hope you are not in pain.
How long with the cast?

Live the dress!

Kmc (spell check makes it kimchi)-- gads, hope the aches go away fast. That is my reaction to statins. Had to figure it out myself and still have an area in my ankle that acts up years later.

Sending the healing thoughts to you arabrab.

So far we have no big plans for the weekend. I am signed up for a 5k fun run on Monday, but that’s it.

Sorry to hear about your arm, arabrab. I hope it heals quickly.

I’m heading to Germany tomorrow night. Will meet ShawWife at my mother’s house to help my mother clean out her house. Barrel of laughs as my mother is not a happy person to begin with and she is having a hard time with this transition. However, she has decided that it is my fault that she is doing this.

Then next week, ShawWife will meet me in London while I work and then we’ll take three days in Berlin, two in Leipzig, one in Frankfurt (for work) and then the weekend in either Paris or Copenhagen before flying home. So a nice vacation amidst work.
