Sending hugs to Missy, CQ and anyone else who needs them.
CQ, re aging fur-baby, one of my clients here is a home hospice vet. She often consults with families to set up in home palliative measures and comfort care – those in her profession don’t just do euthanasia. Many of her clients find they can give their pet comfort this way. She also helps evaluate when its time.
She belongs to an association of pet home hospice vets, so my guess is that there might be someone in your area who offers the same service. Worth a google, or if you tell me your city, I can check to see if she knows someone.
In other news, the verdict on my knee is that there’s no verdict on my knee. Surgeon says he’s concerned that if he removes the damaged section of meniscus (can’t repair) that I won’t actually get to pre-June function because apparently I have significant arthritis in that knee too, despite never having had pain or problem prior. He suggested I keep up te pool physio another month and then decide if I want the arthroscopy with that said. But e won’t recommend a fluid injection either until he first “cleans up in there.”
He said no hill, no hiking, no stress on it, pool only until I can do same without pain. I’m starting to feel that might not be ever.
Well, the 15 lbs of dog food I ordered in post #40014 was supposed to arrive yesterday. Amazon confirmed it was delivered. Except they delivered a weed wacker instead. When I looked up the tracking number on dog food in my account, it was the tracking number on the weed wacker.
So someone somewhere expecting a weed wacker received 15 lbs of senior dog food.
Interestingly, Amazon says we can keep the weed wacker. They’re sending the dog food again. We’re still taking it a day at a time with the dog.
I like to order from Amazon for the convenience but they do seem to mess up with orders at times. They have sent us a wrong outdoor umbrella color, wrong area rug color, etc. They immediately admit their mistake but it is a pain to have to return things.
Keep us posted about your dog. I still miss having our dog and he has been gone for years.
Here’s a post that will make y’all feel good about yourselves and totally put together…at least in comparison to H and me.
We have been paying quarterly estimated taxes since I made equity partner, some 16 years ago. (Ironically, that all just stopped with my new job.) Today I planned to discuss with H making a larger payment, as I received a portion of my capital account when I left the firm. WELL, it turns out that he had forgotten to make the April and June payments and would have forgotten about September, too! What makes someone just forget to do something they have done for 16 years?
The good news is that we have the money. The pathetic, almost humorous thing is that we THOUGHT we had enough money for a master bathroom remodel. We met with someone a couple of weeks ago and she is drawing up plans. So the master bath remodel will be mailed off to the IRS today.
I just hope that H remembers this when he is tempted to lecture one of the kids about forgetting something or being financially irresponsible.
Definitely a first world problem, but I’m sad this morning over the Master Bath that isn’t going to be.
Oh my, MP! But with all of the things that I forget these days I can certainly understand your H’s forgetting this. Also- glad you are getting your bearings on the new job so quickly.
c_q so sorry about your dog. Our beagle is also a senior (15 1/2) and recently really showing her age. It’s hard. OTOH what are you going to do with the free weed whacker in your NYC place?
I’m not sure what we’re going to do with the weed wacker. The church where H works has a small lawn area which is landscaped, so I think first he’s going to see if they can use it. If not, we may just keep it and move it to where we’ll be next (have no idea where that will be yet).
My English Setter is 15. He was starting to have accidents on his way outside, which isn’t great especially when you’re in an apartment building riding an elevator. Right now he is wearing dog incontinence products during the journey outside, which seems to be handling the situation. Sometimes he makes it outside, sometimes he doesn’t, but at least he doesn’t leak. He can still stand and walk, wags his tail but mainly sleeps. His accidents always occur when he’s being taken out so he’s not just randomly having accidents in the apartment.
Ha, ha! That weed whacker mix-up almost made me spit out my coffee! But, I am sorry to hear about your aging dog, @college_query – it’s definitely hard.
@kmcmom13 - Hope your knee feels better. Just waiting to see what happens would make me a little crazy. And then having to make a decision one way or the other when there’s no clear “best choice” …
@missypie - Bummer about sending your master bath to the IRS! H has forgotten several times to pay the quarterly taxes, which of course incurs a penalty. I’ve never really said anything, but oh how he can go on and on if he thinks I’ve missed a payment deadline for a household bill. (Which, in my defense, has almost never happened.)
Headed to MA tomorrow for my __th HS reunion. H is always a good sport about being dragged to these things with me – he’s better than I am about striking up conversations with new people. I’ve skipped quite a few reunions over the years, but since becoming FB friends with a lot of classmates I feel more connected. Tomorrow evening we’ll be gathering at a pub for drinks and a dart tournament; then the big dinner Saturday night and 9 holes of golf Sunday morning for those who are interested.
c_q, Our dachshund was almost 17 years old when he died. He was also incontinent toward the end. We were in a house but placed newspapers or pads down for him to go on if he really needed to. Kind of like going back to the old puppy days. But, you have a much bigger dog so I’m sure it is more difficult. Best of luck. I know it is hard.
Thanks for the knee mojo. Had an oddly good knee day yesterday!
…imagine my confusion, since on my 5 am Thursdays, I don’t do my physio routine…not sure that bodes well On the other I’d worked out double the night before to make up, so I’m not sure whether the activity or inactivity made for a better day…hi ho!
Missy, sorry about the MB. I had a tax year once that scuttled a new car purchase I’d planned. In this case, it wasn’t mch forgetting…it was our idiot and subsequently replaced CPA who’d made a five-figure mistake. Not the kinda surprise anyone needs in life. We were lucky we had the resources on hand.
Speaking of resource-eating projects, we’re finally getting set to do the roof and observatory bridge later this fall when my preferred vendor frees up, after getting the pool sorted this summer. So Wed night we’re swimming and Mch says “What are you going to do when we close the pool next month…you don’t like public pools.” I say I intend to be better and take on the hill again.
Clearly, he doesn’t think I can, because he says why don’t we get one of those inflatable domes with blower and keep the pool open in the winter. The heat bills for six months might cost as much as the dome and dome heater itself and all tolled this plan would likely cost as much as his observatory bridge and shed.
I have a hunch if I say I want to invest in winter home physio, he’ll do it but cancel the observatory. I don’t really want him to forgo what’s been a “dream” hobby thing of his, especially as he nears retirement. Assuming overruns, I don’t really want to eat the construction cushion. I can decide what way to go on this one, because I know he’s being a sweetheart and I don’t want to take advantage of his care and concern.
I’ve already dropped 10k on the pool. Then again, I’d love to still be able to swim most days in winter, so I’d be extending my enjoyment of the investment. Gotta chew on this. Maybe the way forward is to wait till the construction is done and decide but I’m only 5 weeks from the maple dropping the mother load into the pool so I’d better get scheduling.
Had a great weekend going to the Fiber Festival. I went Sat and the day was full of classes so went back Sunday to just wonder, look and buy some yarn. Great time.
D finished her marathon and did great - just over 5 hours. She was hoping for 5 but it was more like 5 1/2 but either way it was her first so she PR’d. H was being treated for a hip issue and thought it was better. The 1/2 marathon though showed him it wasn’t. He went to actually race and had to step back when at mile 4 the hip started to complain. Oh well. He and D are supposed to leave at the end of the week to go hiking in the Adirondacks. Hopefully he will still be able to go and get some hiking in. I’m looking forward to some time with just me and the dog!
Glad you had a fun time RM and hope that your H’s hip gets better soon. Congrats to your D on her race!
Had a lovely time at the lake this weekend. We had beautiful weather and the Harvest Moon was stunning. I am getting ready for my scrapbooking weekend. I leave early Thursday morning to travel 5 hours to a lodge in the North woods to scrap and hike. H will stay home to watch/support D1 and D2 as they run in a women’s only race. H has to attend a local health care gala so D1 said she would go with him since I will be away. We also have the window installers starting to work on Tuesday. Eager to get the job done but dislike having strangers in the house.
So Saturday morning, older D found out that one of her friends from HS had passed away. The more info that comes out, the sicker I feel. He’d been arrested for assault less than a month before. Admitted to using cocaine. Called someone trying to get Xanax. We found dead in a seedy motel. We don’t know whether it was OD or suicide, but it’s just sickening and heartbreaking. To read the Facebook posts, he was beloved. Everybody’s best friend. Very caring. What a loss.
ShawD will return from SE Asia tomorrow. [Unfortunately, I will be flying to Europe for a week and will leave just before her flight lands]. She will stay with us for a few weeks, learn how to drive, and look for a job. I think she will travel to a few cities to see if she would like to live there.
ShawSon returned from the French Riviera. He spent a few days with business school classmates at a mega-house owned by the father of one. He said, “I got a birds-eye view of a lifestyle I don’t want to lead. These guys go to clubs every night until 5 in the morning. One night they bought a bottle of vodka for $250 that I could have purchased at Costco for $12.50. They are nice guys and will be good people to know, but that is not a life I want.”
