Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Of course my post above (#40119) was supposed to say “I ENDED up with one that was convenient …” Sigh.

@missypie (and others) - OMG, I just walked by Lin-Manuel Miranda and his wife! I know they are neighbors (same apartment complex) but I have never seen him. Or if I have, I haven’t been aware of it. I was walking home from the grocery store and they were in front of their building waiting for a car. I did NOT take out my phone and take a photo. Even though I wanted to.

^ That’s very exciting c_q! D and I have been LMM fans since “In the Heights” .

RM- not quite the same, but D was home about 6 weeks before her wedding last year and tried on her dress and cuold not get it fully zipped. She was very upset, but by the wedding day it fit beautifully.

c_q, finally!!! And I’m proud of you for not stopping them or taking a picture. You’re now a real New Yorker! So excited for you!

Good Monday morning to all! We’ve had a stretch of gorgeous weather here — so of course we’re leaving today for 10 days in FL. It’s supposed to be great weather there, too, but part of me wonders why we’re leaving during the height of the fall foliage … (Well, I DO know the answer – it’s because we’re visiting friends who have rented a place there during October/November, but still …) And, of course, when we get back S will be at our place in Cambridge!!!

I’ll try to catch up with everyone’s posts here when I get back, but no promises.

Have a good and safe trip, CBB.

The fall colors are coming out here and we too will miss the peak. H and I leave on Wednesday to see S in London. After a day or so there the three of us travel to the south of France (repeating"south of France" got me through long work hours recently) for a long weekend and then back to London for a few more days. I’m looking forward to seeing S, his flat and his school.

Enjoy the trips CBB and FallGirl! That is exciting!

D was back at her school this past weekend and said the leaves were at their peak. Not quite peak here but maybe in the next week or so. Weather is gorgeous. I am training remotely this week so no travel. Glad I can stay in town during beautiful weather.

FG, enjoy your trip to London and the “south of France”!

Starting to panic a little bit. Leave for Mexico and D1’s wedding on Oct. 30! Still don’t have a dress. The one I thought I was wearing is too short. H wants new pants and tie and I couldn’t find anything at MOA today. I need to pull myself together and get in to this more. I think I am holding back as this is her second wedding. This is very hard for me.

NM, you will find something gorgeous! Order 5 tonight from Nordstroms and a few more from Zappos and Amazon.
I would be in an utter panic but in the end it will work out ok.
I would be wearing black Eileen Fisher pants with a black tank and a loose sheer open front top.

Even though it is her second wedding (and I do remember the painful ending of her first) look
how happy she is and how much she has grown.
Hugs.

OK–so I ordered 4 pair of shoes at Zappos after I went looking for dresses, NM.
Amazon has a great selection --even wedding appropriate.
Have you gone to Nordstrom’s and ask for a personal shopper?
Keep us posted!

Good luck, NM. I like oregon’s advice!

Best wishes to your D1.

Sendin NM the shoe-dress mojo and wishing all travelers well

Finally caught up with some of the “girls” I enjoy hanging out with from mcson’s HS days. I usually stay in better touch with them but time has just gotten away from me it seems ever since the cipro-reaction-knee-thing in June. I’ve had two of them over a few times in the summer, but one of them was MIA before and after a long trip in Africa and then a trip to LA to see her kids. So the four of us were finally all together again for sushi and wine tasting last night and I found out MIA friend has been sidelined with a meniscus tear in her knee also

I told her had she told me we could have been physio buddies in the pool all summer!

It was just kinda weird we kept track of each other via Facebook all summer and neither of us mentioned our respective conditions. It has reminded me that I need to call people once in a while

How’s everyone doing? Staying upbeat in this negative climate? Older D was on a plane to Chicago last night…free WiFi. She said about a third of the passengers were watching the debate and the rest were watching the Cubs’ win. It would have been fun to have been on a plane full of happy Cubs fans.

So my HS friend who drank herself to death…the only Obit. was the funeral home online one that was two sentences long. “Private services” - aning no services. Yesterday there was another one, published in the local paper, posted online, posted on Facebook. As soon as I read it, I knew who had written it …another HS friend, one who has known her since elem school. Such a wonderful, detailed, loving tribute. She likely put her family through hell…how do watch a sibling drink so much? I’m not exactly blaming the family for not writing a great obit. But it was wonderful to see such a beautifully written piece. We are more than our shortcomings.

How true MP. So sorry about the loss of your HS friend. It is so difficult when people have addictions. Very difficult for the family. From what you have said this person had a promising future and the addiction just got in the way. It is terrible that she couldn’t get help or be open to the help.

H and I did a spa weekend away last weekend. Just what we needed. Was nice to be away and just have time together. Seems like we are always so busy when we are home that we don’t connect as much as we would like. We spend a lot of time doing things around the house and doing our own things (him exercise and hobbies, my mostly my hobbies). Also spend time helping out the kids at their houses and not always together for that - he could be at S and I could be at D.

I am doing better this week with exercise. I’ve taken the time this week to just go out for a run / walk in the neighborhood. It’s dark but with lights it has seemed okay. Cheap for sure! Just wondering what I’m going to do when it’s icy or snowy but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. I just need to stress less about it.

Glad you could get away, RM. H and I are actually going away together this weekend. Will leave early Saturday, destination - a small town in the Hill Country for antiquing and wineries - then hiking at a nearby state park on Sunday. Because H is a paid church musician, we rarely get to go away for a weekend. There was a last minute cancellation of his obligations this Sunday, so I went online and finally found a place with all of the above, plus a decent place to stay. Small towns rarely have a lot of accommodations - I would have preferred to drive north, in hopes of a little fall color, but I planned what I could on very short notice.

Wow MP. Hard to imagine this.

I am in San Francisco today for a meeting this afternoon. Just finished a conference call with Switzerland. Now on one with Germany. Later a meeting and then a call with Luxembourg and then one with San Diego. ShawD is going to fly in today and will meet me and ShawSon for dinner. Then ShawD and I will head to Portland.

Work is going great. Looking at a house on the river to buy. Too big and not in walking distance of the town center, but the best view in town.

Sipping champagne and eating cake in the B.A. Lounge at Heathrow ( nice that S has status). On the way to Nice.

FG - sounds like my kind of lounge! Enjoy the trip!
