Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Yea. It is interesting. There is a nationwide shortage of NPs but in some urban areas, supply of labor seems to exceed demand. Hiring may be from within and so ShawD sees that most desirable job listings in urban areas require substantial experience. I’ve suggested looking in places that have organic population growth creating a need for more health care and new positions. I don’t think she will have any real trouble finding a spot, but it is interesting to see that a) everything is done through online resume sorting; and b) positions are rigidly opened and filled (as opposed to the world I live in, in which companies may create a slot if someone really talented comes along). Seems more like government hiring. Connections seem to help after there is an open slot to which she has applied online (and a friend can then weigh in).

ShawSon may be slowing down for a couple of quarters to handle his sleep apnea, which would push full job market participant until later next year. He did have a preliminary conversation with a Data Science group of one of the big consulting firms. He was not impressed.

Sorry to hear about the sleep apnea. I’m sure he’ll have great opportunities when he is ready!

5 nights in San Diego.
Avoiding 10 days of solid rain at home!

@college_query – Dome is working wonderfully at the moment! I’m really enjoying my morning physio/aquajogging session and its totally helping my knee, which isn’t locking as much.

So far, we’ve been able to maintain water temp of 94 degrees for mornings by turning the heater on around midnight-ish…so I’m using less than the amount of nat gas I’d expected/calculated. But right now, its only freezing temps at night, so my heatloss yesterday for example after 14 hours with the heater off was 4 degrees. So it only needed to gain 4 degrees overnight. I’ll be able to fine tune the run time better and conserve more gas when my automation system goes in. My electrician friend has been too bus to get to it yet. The air temp in the dome is surprisingly up to 20 degrees higher than outside air, and more when I open the pool cover to swim. So IVe had lots of 60+ degree days swimming while it was in the 30s outside, and with the water so warm, its very comfortable.

I’m hopeful that in deep winter my temp loss over 12 hours non-heating will be less than 10-12 degrees, in which case I’d be able to regain the loss overnight and stay within my imaginary budget. Hubby thinks I’m nuts trying to dial it in so tightly, but I kinda said to myself I’d “treat” myself to all this healthful hot water if I could keep the gas bill under the cost of a new car payment and instead just keep driving my old Audi

The real question will be what happens when heavy snow comes, and if we can stay ahead of it. What will happen is that light snow will melt and run off, but a heavy snow squall would sink the dome til it hits the water and melts. The dome is supposed to then re inflate due to a barometric pressure switch. Winds, though, can be problematic. I bought a cover pump for incidences of heavy snowfall/melt. So we’ll see how it all goes.

H has been asking me what I want for an anniversary present this year; 30th in December. I have enough bling, so said I didn’t need any more jewelry. Then he suggested a few nights in NYC. Great idea! I love the Big Apple during the holidays!! He was ready to drop some $1600 on tickets to Hamilton; I said that was ridiculous!! So, we’ll go to another show. Any suggestions? We love musicals. Opinions, please!!

Happy Anniversary! Too bad the tickets for Hamilton are still so high. Waitress, Beautiful, Holiday Inn, The Front Page. The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall.

We saw a musical in NY. I’m not a big fan of musicals, but this was Ok. This was the Carole King bio-musical. Great nostalgia.

Yes, that is Beautiful-The Carole King Musical. I saw it in a touring production.

I recommend " Beautiful ".

I’ve seen Beautiful, Book of Mormon, and Waitress and enjoyed them all. Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Something Rotten are ones that I’ve heard good things about. My nephew also saw School of Rock and said it was great - H and S were at a basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night, and some of the kids from School of Rock performed, and they said it was incredible. I’ve also seen the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes and while cheesey, I really enjoyed it and will go again this year.

My S saw Fiddler on the Roof and said it wasn’t incredible.

I also saw a segment on the tv show Sunday Morning for the musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 - based on 70 pages from War and Peace, starring Josh Groban. I think it looks interesting.

I saw that on Sunday Morning too. It has a great review in the New York Times.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in. Right now I’m thinking either “Book of Mormon” or “Beautiful.” We’ve been to the Radio City show several times over the years when we lived in Fairfield County, CT. Always fun.

I liked Beautiful reasonably well but I really liked Book of Mormon. Very funny.

I am super jealous of all this theater-going you east coasters get to do  I haven’t made it to NYC for several years now. Will have to talk to my “league” travel gals about this oversight
Right now there’s shenanigans afoot for a Feb key west trip but I’m not quite sure there’s been consensus yet.

Happy Anniversary, CBB!

Just posted on the corn casserole recipe on the Thanksgiving side dish thread in the cafe. I can’t remember who posted this first, but I think maybe someone here? Anyway, it has become a favorite in my house.

We have made the corn casserole for years!

NM, did you post the recipe?

I did some research - I’ve made that corn casserole before, but yes, NM posted the recipe way back in 2009! Kind of a trip down memory lane:

^ Wow you are good c_q. I had no idea how to find that.

Thanks again for the recipe, NM.
