Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Thanks. It is such a balance between wanting your kids to spread their wings and have experiences and the awareness of what a scary world it can be.

Up again with insomnia. Still fighting this crazy illness. Now taking two different prescriptions for two different infection. I am tired of being sick!

FG…sending good thoughts and prayers for your son.

Sending the get well wishes out, NM.

S is coming home today! He will be here until Tuesday when he flies to the midwest to see grandparents, then we meet up again (plus D and SIL) in NYC next weekend. S will do some more traveling (he has a long break), then back here before returning to school. I have to have all of the dates written down to figure out where he is on what day!

But I can’t wait to see him!

Meanwhile I have an 8 mile training walk this morning. It is supposed to be a beautiful day.

I stay at a hotel a 10 minute walk at most from the Westminster tube stop every month. I won’t be there for a few weeks.

ShawSon had the splint removed from his mouth and is looking very happy. Rubber bands soon to go back in, but not as tight. The surgery changed the shape of his face but largely to the better. We’ll have him for another week on the boat.

In a grand irony, ShawD used to tease ShawSon for playing geeky board games and now is going out with a guy doing speech recognition software for one of the big firms who loves games. She texted ShawSon asking him for recommendations for a game to buy her BF and went to a bar with him where they play board games. We are the only people who haven’t met him but saw a picture of the two of them and they both look very happy together.

S1 was just in London last month for a week on business- stayed within walking distance of that area. When my sister and I were in London a couple of years ago, we got caught up in a taxi strike on Westminster Bridge. Glad your son is okay, @FallGirl .

We actually went to a board game convention a few weeks ago to meet up with S2 and his girlfriend. There was every board game known to man ( or woman) there! We just met S1’s new girlfriend of about 5 months recently when they stayed with us overnight. She seems very nice and played volleyball in college at a Patriot League school. My son also plays so they may join a coed league

Glad your son’s recovery from surgery is going well @shawbridge

Good morning. I’m glad to hear all your collective peeps were safe from harm in London.
FG, enjoy your visit!
NM sending you the fairy dust since Meds don’t seem to be working the magic. Be well.

Had a nice weekend - girls movie night Friday (mch gave tours to his astro crib) and a nice dinner with a dear friend last night.
I’m happy for her but a little blue as she’s moving away - at least for a while – was accepted to Harvard Divinity School.

She’s currently a therapist who works a lot with the poor and mentally ill, but who always has had an interest in religions, rituals, and the psychological impact of dogma. Its a big move in middle life for her, but feels right.

But I will miss the company as she’s one of my more intellectual confidants and while I’m optimistic we’ll be able to maintain the connection, I already struggle to keep up with close friends afar…it had been nice to have one nearby for long nights of gin-soaked philosophical pondering

@kmcmom13 – Hmmm, Harvard Div School is about 1/2 mile from me. Let me know when you’re out this way to visit your friend. We have gin …

B went home from the hospital on Friday – so just 1 week post surgery. SIL had hoped 1 or more of the tubes could have been pulled, but no such luck. He has to go back this Friday; hopefully they can yank some then. Also still waiting on biopsy results of the nearby lymph nodes.

Glad your S is healing, @shawbridge.

Pie tasting (for the wedding) on Saturday. Still waiting to acquire the model’s body before ordering a possible MOB dress …

My dress is ordered. Still trying to lose weight – if achieved I figure I can have it tailored. Still on the hunt for shoes and trying to figure out hair up, partially up or down.

Good to know CBB on the gin front

I hope everyone is finally healthy!
D and I are headed to San Diego tomorrow. Looking forward to the sunshine!

RM, I am right there with you suffering for vanity. We have upcoming weddings and
will see family I have not seen for years. Plus I want to feel better.

CBB, hope it is only good for your B.

I am in the mist of planning 3 trips at the same time.
Boston for graduation, MA in July for a wedding and then a week in Maine, India
in Nov. for a wedding. H is suppose to plan India but needs loads of monitoring
:|.

D is stressing over her high loans and the fact that she and FSIL want to buy a house
sooner than later and need a large downpayment. I am deep breathing as I want to ask why she did not figure all of this out as she planned her career…etc. But instead I reassure her that things will work out as they usually do in the end.

Heading out for an appointment with my brother-in-law, my eye doctor. Still fighting this darn eye infection. Dog sitting at D1’s this afternoon and then relaxing at home tonight when H is out meeting his brother and cousin. Looking forward to a relaxing soak in the hot tub and finishing a good book!

Older D is coming in tonight and over the weekend we are going to the Women’s Final Four. Our favorite team was beat in OT in the Elite 8 but our second favorite will be there. Our city happens to be hosting, but I’m thinking this could be a periodic mother-daughter trip in the future. Next year is in a city I’m not too excited about, but then the two cities after that look fun.

I formulated this tiny, attainable weight loss goal…I figured a pound a month would easily put me at my ideal weight by the end of the year. February went well, but now I’m up the pound I lost in Feb and creeping up on another. I must must must exercise more - that’s the only way I can eat anything at all.

Missy Pie that is a great idea. I am going to try that.
I am very sick with that flu/cold that is going around. I know you guys have had it. My H gave it to me.I have missed work and school and clinical. Can you imagine if I was your provider with a squeaky voice, red eyes, coughing. UGH. Plus I don’t know if I could stand that long.
D2 graduates in early may. Very proud of her. I graduate two weeks later.
D2 is finishing her first year of law school. She is going to Europe for a month. then has an internship in DC. She said she may need a part time job. Yah think???
Her and her boyfriend have motorcycles, I am horrified. I may have told you this.
RM my H is rarely sick and usually recovers is on antibiotics for ear and sinus infection. I am not sure he has ever had one. Not at least since I have known him.
NM is your eye in infection, shingles?

dte…not shingles, thank heavens!!! Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear about all the illnesses!
I really like this 60 some San Diego weather. We walked 6 miles today.

D is working at Whole Foods serving samples. They pay $20 an hour and she takes as many
4 hour shifts as she wants. Good for spending money until that first paycheck comes in mid July.

Oh DTE how awful for both you and your H with the cold/flu thing that has been going around. I will say that now that the ears are clear I am feeling better although I still have episodes at night of vertigo at times. Dr says it just takes time. Oh well.

Congrats on the graduation of both you and your D. I could never go back to school at this point in life. Cheers to you for not only taking it on but also finishing!!!

H and I are talking more and more lately about retirement. Neither one of us is currently all that happy in our jobs and well we would both love to spend more time with the grandkids and have time to do things other than 2 days a week.

NM hope the eye infections clears! How awful for you.

I would love a vacation! Haven’t been away since last year at this time and I don’t see one in my horizon. I am taking days off but just spending time at home doing things.

This weekend we are going to MIL’s for a visit. Not my favorite thing to do – maybe almost my least favorite. So I spent yesterday running my self ragged to go. Went to the gym in the morning, worked 9 hours, went to the meat market and the grocery store, made twice baked potatoes to take (yes even though we are going I get to cook. Aren’t I lucky?), did 2 loads of laundry, cleaned my upstairs and then crashed. Let’s just say I did not get up this morning and go to the gym.

I know this to shall be over with on Monday!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Thank goodness it’s Friday is all I can say.

dte…I so admire your determination and perseverance! Your family must be so proud of you! I hope you have a fabulous graduation party. Feel better soon…this virus is awful and long lasting.!

oregon…samples at Whole Foods? Sounds like a perfect job for me! Right now my taste buds are off. Nothing sounds good to me or tastes right except for unsweetened grapefruit! I have been having that every day. H says he knows it must be bad as I don’t even want a glass of wine! :))

RM…You are so busy and must be exhausted! Be kind to yourself.

H and I will head to the lake late this afternoon. Looking forward to some down time.

NM - wouldn’t be as bad but I haven’t been sleeping well. Well I sleep fine from 3:30 in the morning until the alarm goes off at 4:30 or I sleep fine until 3:30 and then I’m just up. I would love to go to sleep and sleep until just before my alarm and wake refreshed but that doesn’t happen too often unfortunately. I do keep busy though.

RM I cant keep up with you. I would never be able to keep up . Can you do part time?

NM. I know I am sick when I don’t want coffee.
I just wonder, what has happened to just getting a cold? Why does it always have to be so awful. It seems like the viruses are getting worse,
Shaw, how is your D liking her job.?
I meant D1 is graduating. D2 has two more years.
I am going to tell her to check out Whole foods.
Our lake place isn’t open yet, not until ice out. We did buy a boat this year. so are excited to use it. I am looking forward to going there without achool work but will be studying for the boards.

Hope you feel better soon, dte.

RM - I think I am busy and active, but you run circles around me!

Enjoy the lake, NM.
