eddieodessa - bless you! I hope the ladies who hire you know how valuable you are! and you provided my laugh of the day “I do admit it’s horrible to get all wet and have suds running down into the armpit, but have always managed to keep my clothes on. While cleaning, that is.”
thanks!

Top three cleaning lady pet peeves include the following:
(1) running over the fringe of rugs with the vacuum cleaner (requiring expensive repairs to said rugs);
(2) using our cleaning supplies and vacuum when the service is paid to provide their own cleaning supplies and vacuum (very upsetting when I go to clean and find we are out of windex or the vacuum bag is full again; have been known to hide my cleaning supplies in the garage);
(3) using too much water and heavy cleaning solution on hardwood floors (requiring those to now need to be sanded and refinished).

Almost all did a good job in terms of the cleaning itself from baseboards to bookshelves. Maybe they wouldn’t thoroughly dust the chessboard every time or get the tops of pictures, but I don’t either so that didn’t bother me. It was the damage that was the killer. Now that I work part-time from the house, I do my own cleaning.

Eddie, I would hire you in a heartbeat and you could clean naked if you wanted. I admit I do that myself because it is really the only way to get that shower clean.

HAHAHA! I also clean my shower when I am in it! What a sight! I think it is so much easier to do it that way.

I have done all my shopping on the computer. I even bought myself a Carl larssen poster to frame on ebay. I have so many boxes our friends are threatening to shop over here.

Ok oh wise parents, D at college got her bankcard, subway card and gift cards stolen, she is cancelling her bankcard after a frantic call home, if we need to send her money what is the best way.???

Oh downtoearth, I am so sorry to hear that! Does she still have her picture ID? She canceled the card, but the account is still open, is that right? She should be able to get cash from the local branch. If your account and hers are with the same bank, you can transfer money directly to her account, and she could withdraw it in person with her photo ID and her account number.

we do not have accounts at the same bank but I think we could deposit cash in her account. as long as she has access to her account she should be ok. turns out her subway card barely had any more on itand they left her ID, medical card, and lisence(sp) she was fortunate, an inconveinence. I just wondered if she would have a problem obtaining money but prob not if she has ID and can go to a nearby branch. Ironically it was stolen from her as she was picking up her whoopie pies. but someone turned the remainder into the campus police that was not stolen. She may have had a problem flying home without some ID. All in all fortunate I think. thanks

DTE - Was she injured? How did it happen? Very frightening.

OK, here’s my shower cleaning story.

About 10 years ago I hired a highly recommended young man to clean my house. I think he was a college student.

During the course of cleaning the bathroom, he broke the hand-held shower head. What did he do? He went to Home Depot, bought a new one and installed it. Yay!

I was not home at the time… but the story doesn’t end there.

It was summer in Texas and “Chad” took his shirt off when he was repairing the shower. And, THEN he managed to get locked out of my house. With no keys, ID or cell phone. So he went knocking on my neighbors’ doors until a sweet retired lady finally agreed to call me at work. “There is a man here who says he is cleaning your house. I won’t let him in so he is standing in your front yard.” She was mortified on so many levels.

I left work to go let him in, get him dressed and assure my neighbor that it was perfectly normal to have a half nekkid man cleaning my bathroom.

I think he went into another line of business not long after that.

Oh eggmom just what I needed this morning!! LOL. I can just picture it.

Eggmom – Are you sure you didn’t lift that from a desperate housewives episode? Too funny.

eggmom- that is hilarious!

Thanks for the laugh, eggmom! I’ve never had anyone in to clean – but could be convinced if the right guy was available …

And shirtless ;)

DTE, so sorry for your D’s trauma. Hope she can still feel calm for finals.

When I texted Son to ask how his final went yesterday, the reply was “meh.” I’m pretty sure that a “meh” is worse than a “fine.”

Yes, Missypie, “Meh” means ok. Which is less than “fine.” I found a t-shirt that says “meh” on it that I’m giving my youngest for Christmas.

Eggmom, I’ve always wondered what it would like to have a pool boy; alas, no pool. Now I realize I could have the “Pool boy” experience without the pool. I’m firing my cleaning gal post haste in an effort to find a shirtless cleaning guy. Oh, wait… I have shirtless guys all over he house all the time…unfortunately, they’re making the mess, not cleaning it…

shirtless family members not the same, I think between the bus and the shirtless cleaners I sense alot of hormones going on here. D1 was fine it was taken while she was juggling the whoopie pies which her floor loved. thanks for the suggestion. I got caught up in the moment and was not sure there was something we should do immediatley besides the card. My house is just surface cleaned right now, my friend has a service and wants to clean it for free, actually insisits upon it which my H struggles with. so i think Iwill have them do it after Christmas, in January when i will be able to keep it up.

DTE, please forgive the order, but you are required to allow your friend to clean your house for free.

Put yourself in her shoes. When you’ve known someone going through difficult health issues, haven’t you wanted to do something, but struggled to figure out something appropriate to do? Your friend has the perfect thing to offer, so you must allow her to do it.

I agree with Missy… When I say something like, “if there’s anything I can do, please let me know…” it’s only because I don’t necessarily have a skill or otherwise know what to do.

dte…definitely have the house cleaned! Your friend truly is so gracious and wants to help. Hope your D gets things settled quickly.

We are anxiously watching the weather reports to see how much snow we will get today and tomorrow. I just have a winter storm watch here but both Ds have blizzard warnings. Told them to stock some groceries yesterday and stay off of the roads today! Would be nice to have some extra study time snuggled in with some cocoa before finals! :)
