Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Hugs to you, Sabray. Glad he called.

Hugs to you Sabray.

I’m up for the SPA day. I’m ALWAYS up for a SPA day :)

Just put me on a beach chair out in the sun while y’all are being spa’d,and I’ll be fine. If you can think to order me a margerita with salt, so much the better.

Big step sabray. Wishing you much peace and comfort.

I LOVE spa days! I have appointments for a pedi, facial and hair cut next week. We leave for our spring break trip a week from Friday and this is always my prep before a vacation! :)

spa day sounds nice–never waxed and never had a facial. Semi-perm on hair. My biggest problems are first finding someone I like well enough to spend and hour or so with and finding products that do not have a lot of fragrance. Had my first pedi and manicure this past year–it is worth the time and $. I do not use any polish on my fingernails having learned that I can chip them fast. Still my hands looks to much better when I take the time to get one done. Now massages I will not have–the only one I have ever had left me in tons of pain.

Waxing is too harsh on my skin - I get my eyebrows threaded. My D is returning home in a few weeks from a study abroad program in Africa and she’s requested a mani’pedi outing with me. Come to think of it, have y’all noticed how many spas there are now compared to when we were in college?

I am taking a cooking class tonight! So excited to learn some new recipes and taste new wine!

I have seen threading but it’s usually going on in the middle of some mall! I am reluctant to have any type of “procedure” done out in the open. As a Grinnell alum I can’t even remember if there was anywhere to get a haircut at the time- I recall one girl on my floor cutting everyone’s. Which was actually a lot of fun.

That’s the only place I’ve seen threading - at the mall.

I’m always amazed at the people getting their teeth bleached, out in public, in the mall or at the state fair!

Count me OUT for having type of grooming procedure done in public – actually, any type of procedure, period.

I had no inkling of spa treatments until I was well into my 30s. Still don’t go often, but what fun when I do! Friend and I are headed to the Norwich Inn & Spa (CT) in mid-March – taking advantage of their winter special, which is a full day for a very reasonable price. It includes a 50 minute treatment, an exercise class, lunch, and full use of their facilities.

Headed out in a few minutes for my pre-spring break pedicure. We’re heaed to FL, and I certainly hope it will warm enough for flip-flops!

I used to hate the idea of spa ays until I tried it. it is so nice to be pa,pered. I love pedicures and massages especially. I have to have my eyebrows waxed at a special place because I get so irritated with certain waxes. I draw the line at bikini waxes and i dont do it often. I am due for a facial soon…
Sabray thinking of you.
Enjoy the cooking class

ok… i’ve washed the gray out of my hair (as the old commercial used to go), but the worst part of the whole thing is getting the bill. The one thing I forgot about was the need for the special shampoo so the color lasts longer. It’s not as light around the face as I anticipated, but I think I really like it. I am mostly afraid of the growing out stage, so we’ll see how that goes in a couple of weeks. If I feel I am needing to go back in three, we’ll be going a lot lighter, but I honestly think my hair grows a lot slower these days.

However I will say that this “younger” version of myself does give me a certain motivation to get the body back to match it! So… here we go… .

Congrats, Modadunn.

I’ve had hairdressers that I liked, in comfy establishments, that were fun to go to. Its hard to start with someone new.

I don’t even know what having ‘eyebrows threaded’ means.

Sabaray, I hope your son is doing OK. I know it has to be very hard for everybody in the family. I’m sure when he hurts, you are hurting just as much.

An engineering student was killed in a senseless accident at S2’s school this week. His ride was apparently leaving without him, so he jumped on top of the car, which was in a parking garage. He hit his head on a pipe and was knocked to the ground where he hit his head again on the cement and was killed. Just so tragic.

Modadunn, they do a lot of thinning of my hair whenever I get it cut as well. I don’t understand what is wrong with thick hair. Mine isn’t curly and I wear it short, so I don’t know why they have to spend an hour with thinning shears on it.

Moda, come on over to the health/wellness thread in the cafe. Eddie is our cheerleader over there. Lots of motivated folks to “help” you along.

Analyst, that story puts a great deal into perspective. How horrible for that young man’s family.

Hey sabaray…hugs to the family.

Oh good, I’m not the only one.

WOW! Ok, I have been gone a while, have spent last 2 hours reading and trying to catch up. last time I was on D was not happy at her school, decided to transfer as a second semester freshman. So she applied to one school thinking she would not get in and had resigned herself to waiting till fall. she was accepted to liberal arts school, so back to VA after New years to move her out. She is very Happy!! yeah!!
S17 spent 4 months and entire football season on crutches after ankle surgery. NOT FUN!! as he is planning on playing in college. Needless to say he has not looked at any schools. I ask he grunts.

4Giggles: So glad to hear the good result and timeliness of the transfer!! Had she applied to that school first go round and went a different direction? Or was this a completely new school?

Went out with some friends last night and heard the class (last year’s graduating one) had a couple of transfers and a newer twist, a last minute deferral for a year that turned into a complete change of idea in what he wanted and a whole new school closer to home. Personally, I think the new school is a better fit and I know he wasn’t thrilled with his safety (which is where he was headed), so good for him! Saved his parents a year of wasted tuition from my perspective. The other that struck me as interesting was one from Colorado College and the system of one class at a time. He just didn’t feel challenged enough on a day to day basis. Obviously recognized that he fed off of a little bit of juggling and multi-tasking.

ok… the hair is not as light as I would have liked around the face so we’ll have to see how it grows out to see how quickly the gray is glaring. Also… for some reason he didn’t have me down for a haircut, which I know I said I wanted. Felt a little rushed even though I had only wanted a really good trim regardless. Will have to go back and have him fix the bangs a little. And the bill? well, once you add the shampoo & conditioner to prolong the color and well… it was definitely more painful than I’d prefer. The jury is still out. H noticed. D16 did not. However, I am thinking she might really enjoy some fun highlights for spring. I did them for her sister (they both have blonde hair that goes really dirty blonde in winter) and so, in that respect it’s only fair.

And I will come over to the wellness thread thingy when I return from spending a few days with my sisters next week. We’re doing a girls-3day for the first time in over a decade. Really looking forward to it. She has a medium coming to the house for a reading (our version of a mani-pedi) and we’re doing the massage thing. Other than that I am hoping for plenty of down time laying in the sun! Not sure about what the weather is going to be, but holding good thoughts!

D school was original waitlist that she chose not to stay on. she applied even though they discouraged it. sort of crazy how it all fell into place.

so nice for you to be spending time with sisters. will pray for sunshine for you :)
