Oh missiepie - you’re breaking my heart!!

Then let me replace that image with the most adorable Easter basket image ever. Years ago, my sister’s cat had kittens a few days before Easter. Her daughter was about 3 years old at the time and my sister told her to leave the kittens alone. On Easter evening, my sister caught my neice sneaking out of the room with her Easter basket…which was full of kittens!

OK, you’re KILLING me now, missypie. I’m reminiscing about S when I dressed him up in a furry bunny outfit at 6mos of age. And my D in the little straw hat and and the dress with the smocking and S in his little bowtie…oh my lord, where HAVE the years gone?

And the girls would carry little white patent purses that were about 5 inches long and were totally empty.

Ummm…I don’t know about you, but 5 inches long and white patent leather is PERFECT for a stash of jelly beans that could easily last through church on Easter morning!

Next time I see one of those little ones at church, I’ll have to see if she’ll tell me what’s in her purse!

I am so spitting mad!!! Just got off the phone with D2. She got an email from coaching staff saying she was required to travel with team to play in some spring season games!!! Now she was told to turn in her gear, locker room access and hasn’t practiced with the team since November! The team is in the unique position of not having enough players due to transfers, graduation, academic ineligibility and injuries so they are going back to players who are leaving. The coaches are saying you must play due to you still receiving scholarship $$$. I wouldn’t be as upset if they would have asked nicely rather than using threats! So now they want these girls to play who are not in game shape and at risk for injury. I am really angry!!!

Wow, NorthMinnesota, just wow. I hope that you’re a frequent visitor to the athletic recruits forum. I know you don’t want to be a spoiler but if there are any dewy eyed parents out there who think that an athletic scholarship is the key to happiness, they might benefit from a dose of the reality your D is experiencing.

I do hope that the school adminstration is aware of this. Sounds like lots going wrong with this particular program.

That’s completely messed up NMN. I don’t quite understand the point. Is there anyway you can call the AD and simply inquire if what your D is being told about scholarship money is accurate? Seems to me she fulfilled her obligation August thru November for THIS calendar year and anything spring would be in prep for next year.

NMN – Just wow. This is one where I would intervene – with whoever oversees athletics above the level of the athletic director if you don’t get satisfaction there. Asking a student who is not in condition to risk injury, particularly when she wasn’t informed of any need/requirement to keep up conditioning is absurd.

^^was thinking same thing…only I thought you could “share” the reason your d is choosing to leave the school

sabaray, I hope your son perseveres in these tough times and you find a good place for him.

NMN. Pretty amazing. I guess they are saying to themselves. Well, we’re still paying them – athletes in their minds being bodies for hire – and we need bodies, so let’s just get them in here. I do think asking the AD might be a good idea.

ShawSon was here Saturday night and Sunday. Great to see him, but he is really tired. Two major tests the past week. He’s a bit overwhelmed by all of the reading and writing in two of his courses. And, his independent study course has morphed into a long paper. So, he’s got reading/writing fatigue. Fortunately, multivariable calculus is something he can just plow through and figure out. He did get his first B+ on a test – he prepped for a particular question on an essay test and didn’t adjust enough to the differences between the question the teacher had given them to prep for and the question he actually asked. ShawSon is confident he can turn this around on the final, but I think the fatigue level is convincing him that he has to go more for quantitative courses. It is probably a low cost time for him to learn this lesson.

She has already contacted the NCAA person on campus. They are out of the office today. At least she has been running on a daily basis but some of the other players haven’t done a thing! I may intervene just to make sure what their coverage is if an injury occurs. What makes me even more upset is that they didn’t ask all of the players who have left to come back and play, only a “select” few. And now she found out that her roomie knew this was coming but hadn’t forewarned her. She is very disappointed in her. How can you give less than a week notice before the first game! Unbelievable!

NM, how many days til the end of the semester? Bet you are counting them down now, too.

Sabaray, I know you will find a program that aligns better with your S’s needs. I am so glad he is telling you what’s happening instead of internalizing it. That takes a lot of strength and trust on his part – both important things for getting better.

I was awake all night. All of a sudden it hit me that D hasn’t had her final appointment since she had her surgery in January. I bet the coaches don’t even know she had the surgery! Her appointment isn’t until May to make sure the grafts took and are healthy. I bet she has to have a medical release of some sort.

oh NM I hope that is right!

sabaray prayers go out for your family. What CD said is true about your S telling you instead of keeping it in and I am sure the right sort of program, facility will present itself.

I am looking out my bedroom window at deer feasting on the buffet that is our yard. Grrrrrrrrr they are eating barberry bushes. I gotta get me some human hair!

D2 just called and said coach emailed and said they do not need her for the games. She suspects it is because of the email she sent to on campus NCAA compliance person. Hmmm…
No matter why it changed, she is very happy.

way to go Northminn D2! glad to hear it, esp after your sleeplessness about her injury…

It really galls me that adults try to pull a fast one over 18/19 year old kids. Obviously there was something not quite kosher going on and I am glad that the coach backed off. Still… it doesn’t say much for the integrity of the coach or the program in general. Then again, it didn’t say much when kids were getting in trouble during the season and the coach was looking the other way. I just found out that a loss this past weekend of a team at son’s school was likely the result of kids getting caught “inhaling” and the coach suspending them from the team. They most likely got a warning or some other citation from the school, but that the coach followed thru in benching some of his MVP’s makes be very proud of his leadership and consistency.

Honesty and integrity…don’t want to go there! Anyway, D2 is happy and anxious to be done with her freshman year. Five more weekends to go!
