Wow, Analyst… Sounds like an awesome opportunity for your son… and a good way to bank a lot of money living as an ex-pat. Both my sister and brother have lived abroad for the job and while they were up the ladder on their particular food chains, part of their gig included a stipend for housing, which gave them some pretty nice digs. Brother is currently entertaining the options of leaving corporate headquarters and moving to Indonesia for a two year stint. He previously lived in Turkey and Russia (where he met his wife) and my sister lived in Japan, Germany and London. Part of her “deal” was also the concession that they would pay for her to come back to the states twice a year. It’s a great opportunity for him in a lot of ways. Congrats big time.

The Analyist, great news about the job. Loved the flue powder comment.

CF - what the…so your son gets it together enough to go to the Disablities office and arrange things, then contact the professor…that alone is a great achievement…then to haev to do it again and again…Don’t know that my guy would be up for that.

TheAnalyst…Hooray! Great news! You all must be so very happy! It sounds so exciting! A great opportunity to travel while doing something he loves! Yay!

Can I also pass on a smaller bit of good news?? D1 called while I was at book club last night and told me the business dept had their end of year awards ceremony. She was excited and honored to be named the student of the year in her concentration in the business dept! Yay! She was surprised and we are so very proud of her.

CF-- Son’s disability office called what your son endured “the A-H Factor.” Director said to McSon - "95% of the profs here know the drill, will be wonderful, will bend over backwards to assist you etc. I apologize in advance for the 5% of the “AH**s you will encounter. Do not fight those afflicted with the A-H Factor, they get to decide your grade. Call me and let me fight the A-Hs – it doesn’t matter if they’re mad at ME. They will try to make you feel bad as they reluctantly comply with the law. Do not let them.”

He had his first time mgmt for add coaching session yesterday. They made a big visual chart of what he had to do by when and mapped out points of progress. (Adult specialist in the dept., not “student mentor.”) He goes back next Fri. again. Free service – I’m pretty pleased so far. So maybe more than I previously thought is avail at the ‘large state schools.’

Love it! McSon’s in a good place!

That’s terrific!

Of course, what I really want to know about is her wardrobe. Weren’t you the one who went out on a limb and bought “work clothes” for her for Christmas that ended up being too small and it was (of course) your fault that she didn’t fit into her old size?

Thanks everybody. I admit to borrowing the flue powder from another thread. It just seemed appropriate. The ability to live internationally was his top priority, so I’m glad that is a given with either job. If he gets an offer from Firm B (and I think he will), I really don’t know which he will decide to take. He and I have been kicking around the pluses and minuses of these two firms and jobs for several weeks now. The days I’m convinced the Firm B job is best, he argues the merits of the Firm A job so well, I change my mind. Then he decides I have convinced him on Firm B after all but now I’m arguing for Firm A. We are our own little debating team and either of us can take the other side at will. They really are two very different career paths so a pretty big fork in the road coming up. Whichever path he chooses, it would be like a train jumping its tracks to get over to the other path if he decides he made a mistake so I’m trying to get him to think through all the variables as thoroughly as possible.

KM, I love the advice to your son from the disability office. Congrats NM to your D. My freshman continues to give me gray hairs.

NorthMinn - How cool is that! What a year it has been for her.

missypie…she still needs clothes! ;)

Analysts how EXCITING for your S!

Two things… apparently I have been writing Per Say instead of the correct latin, per se. I apologize. WT… you say? Well, I got a PM from someone not on this board questioning my grammer, literate status and whether or not I have a life because I post on CC. Claimed I was an embarrassment for my son. Slightly hurtful beyond the grammar crack, and I readily admit I’ve gotten rather attached to the website, but didn’t think it had reached unhealthy levels. Perhaps it has. But seriously, in my laundry-laden, errand running life, is this diversion a crime?

Next: Son is asking about taking a summer school class. Beyond the logistics and the cost (really? Our yearly tuition check wasn’t enough?) and the fact that nothing similar seems to be offered at the community college and only at the big state University, he can’t even register until mid april as a non-degree seeking student. Anyone familiar with the non-degree seeking student status and registering for classes?

I told son that he needed to talk to the head of the department about making sure if he does take this class that the credit will transfer AND count towards his major.

What was a big turnoff for me was the schools we visited that required 128 or 132 hours for a bachelor’s degree…I’m not talking about programs like Accounting or Architechure. I’m talking about small schools that want your money so they make it pretty much required to go there for summer school one or two summers.

Moda, I hate it when people criticize message board grammar or spelling. Most of what we write is dashed off quickly. I personally apppreciate everyone’s time and would prefer numerous messages dashed off quickly than rare, scholarly tomes.

Edited to add: Of course, I’m a bit of a hypocrite because I’m very amused at the kids who post about wanting to go to HYPS and have numerous grammatical errors in their posts!

Well, Moda, I value your input and support very much. I really don’t like the idea of someone sending you a PM for the sole purpose of criticizing something so trivial. Good grief.

D also wants to take a summer class. Initially her advisor had suggested doing CS over the summer so she could do Chem this semester. Small problem- CS isn’t offered in the summer, at least the course she needs. So now she’ll take it in the fall and take some nightmarish math course over the summer. So it will be $250/hr plus $301 “comprehensive fee”. She’s been job hunting and hopefully will hear something positive soon.

Moda – How did someone pm you who is not on CC? Suspect same has that A*H factor gene discussed earlier : )

Maybe we should all PMem back! ;)

well, moda I haven’t never heard of such a thing. Its really the sinequa non, if you get my point. I think you were just trying to write an affective post and if that person cant except it, well who needs them. Its so exacerbating! I think your posts have always been so complementary and for some one to post that is just horrible! It makes me want to get off my stationery bike and do something real mean.

(Do you think I P***ed your anonymous poster off enough??)
PS And s/he said YOU have to get a life??

woody…too funny!! ![]()
Moda…Goodness! That person must think we are all illiterate and have no life! Don’t let a bully intimidate you!!! (I learned that from D2 this week!
)I admit I do make CC part of my life. It is very therapeutic! :)

Your Cyber-friend Forever!!!

Moda- This is just amazing that someone would send a PM correcting your grammer. I notice spelling/grammer errors in posts from time to time, but I can figure out what the poster meant to say. A lot of time people are just in a hurry to get something out. And I’ve made a lot of those myself.

Aww… thanks guys. And gee Woody… that took effort! I had to look up “sinequa non.” Learn something new every day!

Quite frankly, I have no idea what it means! It was just something Latin-y!

Will have to get my in house latin translator (8th grade son) on that. I have no idea.
