Wow, CBB, sorry to hear about your medical travails. Hope you’ll be up for the trip on Friday!

Ouch CBBB! So sorry to hear about your yucky Mother’s Day:(
So when does “add-on” surgery become “emergency” surgery? Apparently not when the gallbladder becomes inflamed, but when H grills the doc?! Jeez…

Get as much rest as you can - NAP, NAP, NAP! When I had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy last fall, I expected to go on a business trip the next week. Hah! Maybe you know all this, but I was a surgery-newbie and I was blindsided by how long it took me to recover. Of course, your D’s graduation is a way better incentive than a business trip :)

Best wishes, CBBB, on a speedy recovery! One shouldn’t need to be a squeaky wheel to get necessary medical treatment. Good to hear that the surgeon finally came through for you. … Incidental in comparison, but I’m scheduled for first routine colonoscopy this Friday; no exciting outings for me over the next few days.

That’s what I was thinking. If you had come in alone, would you have still been waiting?

Hey CBBB! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I just wanted to say that Son is about the best big brother ever. When I got home from work yesterday, he and the 14 year old were in his room, reading Shel Sliverstein poems to each other. Then she talked him into taking her to a movie she had been wanting to see. (Of course, he and the 17 year old have little to do with each other.)

^missypie, how fortunate your daughters (yes, both of them) are to have an older brother! Your son sounds like a considerate young man. My daughters have always wished they had an older brother.

It’s not all good. Older brothers also do things like finish the last box of thin mints when no one is around.

CB-- so sorry to hear about the gall bladder. My sister had the same thing and worst thing was the bloating afterward. But surely better than any kind of cutting!! Hope you feel better soon!!

I always wanted a big brother. My younger one just sent an email that he and his wife are headed to New Delhi for the next two years. Not sure I would want to move to India, but he’s an adventurous sort and hindi will just be one more language he picks up with relative ease.

I gave up on asking son about his storage options. A lot of his friends live reasonably close by and so they aren’t needing storage. I have this sinking feeling that he will be waiting to even start packing until someone shows up to drive him home!

Sending get well wishes to you CBB! Hoping you have a speedy and pain free recovery!

I must fall in the “worst mother ever” category also as we aren’t helping D2 pack and drive home. She has been slowly bringing things home and has her car there so she thinks she can make it. Her favorite roomie leaves today and she leaves on Friday. Not sure when the other two roomies leave. She has no mixed feelings or remorse about leaving. I am a little sad for her but know she will be happier next year.

I just wished I had had a sibling. As an only child it was often lonely and with most of my family deceased (just a cousin and her kids left) I rely I think too much on my H. :(

Just got a text from D: “Guess who’s coming home today?” I’ll have to say it made my heart flip flop; maybe that she’s coming today (wow!); or still seems excited to come “home.”

My H tells my girls he acts like he does to show them what it would be like to have an older brother …

Hugs to you RochesterMom. I don’t think my sisters would mind if we adopted another. :)

Hey all you avid readers…H is looking to buy me a birthday gift and we are trying to decide between Ipad and a Kindle. Anyone have either? Likes vs dislikes??? I’ll post in cafe too.

Well, I LOVE my kindle but h who is the tech-savvy person in the house gave me a list of about 5 items why he believes the Ipad will prove to be superior in the long run. However, I cannot think of one of those items now! (Selective hearing, perhaps??)

I’ve been thinking of getting an e-Reader too. I’d like to broaden NM’s question to include the Barnes&Noble “Nook”.

In addition to reading books, I’d also like to be able to read magazines on the e-Reader. I understand that in come cases the end-user experience isn’t very good (I believe the problem is with the pictures in the magazine articles, maybe they aren’t included in the e-version?) I’d be interested to hear other’s opinions/experiences.

Love my Kindle, but now that I have an iPhone I find the buttons on the Kindle a little clunky. I keep touching the screen trying to change pages :o

the Kindle is not back-lit, so it is good for reading outside in the sun, but you need a light on to read at night. iPad is backlit so you can read in bed, but (and IMHO this is a big “but”) the iPad is light-emitting, and that light sends a message to your brain to stay awake, and interferes with the natural melatonin in your body. so if you read before bed like I do, I think the Kindle is better.

DL, I don’t read magazines on my Kindle yet, but I do read the NY Times. The pictures aren’t great, but I love the convenience of literally having the Times at my bedside when I wake up ;)

CBB - Glad to hear you are doing better (and that your husband put his foot down with the doctor).

I love my Nook. Reason to get the Nook over the Kindle: Ability to borrow ebooks from public libraries. Other than that, they seem pretty equal. Best part of having an ereader is not having to find bookshelf space for more books!

Wishing you well, CBB.
And, my reading friends, I too am considering electronic readers. All I know so far is that I like the multitask/surfing nature of the ipad and understand it already reads kindle.
But I too am slightly wary about the cathode/backlight impact on brain. Let me know if you all find out anything about that!

Parent Cafe has some active discussion on e-readers. I am now thinking of one since I just learned my tax refund is more than anticipated. For once the IRS made a change that benefits me!
