Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Congrats to #tm and #ts! Now on to the next worry…

Last night was interesting helping put S’s first resume together. Let’s just say the font size grew.

He’s excited about two jobs he found on Craigslist, one that pays $20 for each 250-300 page book read and the other a writing job of some sort, both playing to his strengths. Of course, he’d love to work at the theater and see free movies all day, but…

Anybody out there not in exhale mode yet after the first year?

I’m still not in exhale mode, unfortunately. I know I need to stop worrying so much.

D will be dealing with the house set up issues as well. Don’t think she and her equally clueless (but sweet) roommate have given it much thought at all. Utilities and internet- they can handle those things. I hope.

Nope, not there yet…

it’s funny, and probably hard to believe, but I am not a worrier in general. This kid tho has sent me over the top.

Fingers are crossed for sabaray and woody for the moment of relief!

theory, I think sons will do that to you!

ffscout says from experience… LOL

I will exhale when D actually begins her internship (which I THINK is supposed to start on Tuesday); it’s not entirely clear to me that she has finished all the negotiations/paperwork for this – and she considers inquiries about it intrusive.

Gah.

While I’m not sure when the worrying stops, H and I both have noted how mature S1 has become. We are going to miss him for sure. Just when they become people you really enjoy having around is when they leave.

He is set to take the GMATs tomorrow and is studying for that, but is mostly doing job related work, including skyping with co-workers in Australia. He has been included as a fully participating team member and seems totally comfortable with everybody. They also sent him a Portuguese textbook and language tapes so he can continue to fine tune his language skills since a lot of the material and conversations are in Portuguese. He gets up early and spends the day in his dad’s office, going through documents and working. No going out at night, no music or TV in the background, and no sign of restlessness. Just happy. Can’t believe it’s my kid. He doesn’t have his airline ticket yet, but they confirmed it’s all been approved and should be coming shortly (this for a Monday flight). I want to take him shopping and start thinking about packing but that probably won’t happen until Friday.

S2 isn’t communicating much but we will see him this week-end for the graduation.

bragging Warning!!! D just interviewed for an internship, they said they didnt have any positions, but based on her application, resume, and recomendations, they felt like they had to make room for her. quite a compliment!!! Makes a mom feel good. I felt like I could say it here as we all know of the glory and the struggles our lives have taken on this year and we all root for each other!!!

Awesome! Brag away!

DTE - Woot!!! Says quite a bit about the work your D has put in.

Son and H are on their way home. Visiting with 97 year old Great grandmother yesterday and hope to be home tomorrow evening. Hoping it will be early enough for them to make it to younger D’s game but we’ll see. They apparently got everything in the car and whatever was left was being taken to storage by other friends who also had stuff to go. Let’s just hope they follow thru on his behalf.

Run into the first swarm of kids home from school at last night’s game. So good to see S’s friends and they all looked so happy and enthusiastically reported they had a great year when I asked what the verdict was.

DTE, congrats. That’s great news.

bragging is distinctly ALLOWED here! YEA! DTE’s D!

Bravo to DTE-D!!
Brag away!!
Moda- You mentioned the friends from back home…does anyone feel like there might be a seismic shift in the HS relationships/friendships? I can’t say D is too eager to hang out with a lot of kids from HS; 2-3 at most. S left his HS after jr. year and really didn’t keep up with friendships after that.
I wonder how this summer will turn out…

DTE- I call it sharing good news. That’s great!

Late for Mother’s Day, but for all the moms who worry and celebrate:

Someone, please pass the Kleenex. That was absolutely beautiful… because as all of us know those “lanyards” or popsicle houses or drawings wrought by their little hands DID make it even for us as well.

Beautiful poem.
There is a reason I have the Mother’s Day coupons my kids made years and years ago right next to my bed! (sniff)
