Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

the historygirls have their Senior Board presentations today so send collective calm and poise wesward if you will…for those of you on the west coast send it south or north as appropriate.

My DDs steadfastly refused to join the local chapter of the honor society because the leaders were “mean girls” So no tassles though they were theoretically entitled. So Deja, can I order two of the gold ones please?

Absolutely, historymom. Next?

Since Son didn’t have an Eagle Scout ceremony, I’ll take a stole with the Eagle logo on it. Or red and blue cords - your choice.

Go, historygirls, go! Calm & poise to both of them - and good luck, though I’m sure they don’t need it.

Deja, S1 graduates in blinding white pants/blue blazer, so I don’t think I should order any cords. But let me know if you see some kind of piratical pocket-square. He’d wear it as a shout-out to S2.

hmom-----virtual calm energy moving north west …

love the description harriet–all the best as graduations commence

Deja- I absolutely would not give them the financial aid information. ( and they should not be asking for it).

As for all of these cords- D will wear the ones for Spanish Honor Society and the NHS stole. I am going to look at the Amazon site and see if I can order any more that suit her ( maybe for dance or liking to joke around with friends…) she would think it very funny. Come to think of it we have a house full of dance competition medals, but graduation (still 2 weeks away!) is being held at a local college and we probably wouldn’t get them past security.

Here are the mascots of Son’s top 4 schools:

Stars
Lumberjacks
Kangaroos (!)
Pirates

Son chose the Pirates, of course!!!

I am sure the historydaughters’ presentations will go off without a hitch and be inspiring.
How could they not?

inspiring huh? Wow t-mom I think K is hoping she won’t say “crap” like she did in her in-class run through and E is hoping that the weather holds as said K9 is terrified of thunder and may pee on himself if he hears it. But Now I’ll encourage them to set their standards higher ;)

HMW I would love to find a pocket square w/ the jolly roger. How about S1 graduates with and eye patch or a hook?

LOOK! historymom brought everything back to college admissions! She mentioned a hook! :D

historymom, surely you aren’t a moderator’s pet, are you <g>? </g>

I would love to have something written or pasted on son’s mortarboard, like often happens at college graduations. Does anyone have schools that permit this?

I am in heaven…my (freshman) s just arrived home from college with a friend…and they and my d and s2 are swimming in our pool along with our golden puppy Layla…who until she dove in the pool was sporting a pirates outfit. (my 13 y.o. found it from 2nd grade and thought it would make big bro laugh–it did) harriet – aren’t brothers cute together :)

oh and yes, have the laundry going… but you know couldn’t be happier doing it. ;)

Hmom - aspire to inspire - Even if just with humor

WPI’s mascot is a goat. And I just recalled that I have a stuffed (plush not real) goat head trophy we used to hang up in our ski cabin when we had a ski cabin (sort of a play on the real trophy hunters’ cabins - and this is a mountain goat head.
I wonder if S would take it with him to college to hang on the wall. He should but he is so dang conservative sometimes - maybe by Christmas he will feel like taking it (I was about to box up all stuffed toys and send them to goodwill - think I will keep this for now.)

Lindz, that’s a great moment you’re experiencing! My two brothers and I are very close, and my mom always said one of the joys of her life was knowing that we all CHOSE to be friends. Cherish this special memory.

aw lindz - that sound so sweet

agree cpeltz…the raucous laughter is heartwarming

my 3 are quite close–have fun together. S1 gave his sis big congrats as he was unable to be here for her graduation. so, we’re having celebratory dinner tonite and it is a moment to cherish…all are healthy and in good places. life is good and I am very grateful…

I was ridiculously happy to find that Son had come home fro graduation practice with an actual medal - Texas Scholar. (Now he won’t have to use his sister’s autographed by Carly Patterson gymnstics medal.) So he has an NHS stole, some cords and a medal.

Here is what went through my head: The day in 7th grade when he was supposed to be studying for his English final. I asked if there was a study guide or anything. He said no, they were supposed to study their notes. Where are your notes? I didn’t take any. All year? Yes, all year. I lost it.

Every school year has had one or more of those moments. But I guess he did okay.

In our large public HS, I doubt there will be chords, medals or stoles…congrats to all your kids who are drowning in accessories!

My S told me this morning he may not be able to walk with his class because he may have had too many “U’s” over the course of the four years. He has no idea how many he has or what the magic number might be (he heard about this over the senior trip), his school still has no idea if any students are in danger of not walking or why (it’s two weeks away), and he’s going to get an award at the Senior Scholastic Awards for his gpa next week.

I understand the kids need to do the work (his U’s are for work habits, not lack of cooperation), but if they manage to graduate with an “honors gpa,” get accepted to a number of colleges with scholarships, it seems like a punitive punishment for no reason by this time.

Of course, his large HS is down to 1 principal and 1 vp, so nobody can answer anything…my guess is they won’t have time to winnow out all the kids who might not be eligible to walk so ALL the kids will walk.

I’ve only once shown up at the school, and fortunately didn’t have to draw a line in the sand…this may be the time.

How large is your public high school, cpeltz?

Our city high schools range from 1800 or so to 2800. That’s a lot of stoles/cords/tassels $ for Jostens (not to mention cap and gown $)!

cpeltz
If you find out this U business is serious, I would be there drawing a line - a reasonable line of course. Pointing out all the reasons why he SHOULD walk that you just pointed out here.
How incredibly silly. If you are passing you should walk, period. U’s for work habits is like not allowing someone to walk because they were absent a few times.

All I can think is thank goodness they didn’t hand out U’s around here. We would be swimming in U’s
