Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

mommusic - I’m sorry, but I forgot what your problem was with CB. Glad you found someone willing to help you.

DougBetsy - thanks for the good luck wishes. D is taking the SAT tomorrow, and not looking forward to it at all.

momusic, that’s great. It is so nice to finally get someone who is willing to help you. So far, I have not found that person at collegeboards. However, my minor problems were not too difficult to solve. I am glad you got someone to help you with yours.

Hi everyone, I am at my parents house today helping out while my father is in the hospital (no big problems, just some tests) I am happy to see that some neighbor who had an open wireless router a few years ago still hasn’t corrected the problem! :)

That sounds like a great meeting and a great GC LIMOM! That will make a big difference and will make the process so much easier.

Our college counselor mtg from Tues was rescheduled, and D is meeting with him today. I want her to go over some of the same stuff you talked about LIMOM, eg get some safety or merit ideas. She has already thought about who she will ask for recommendations. The big first meeting with parents/students is next month and I know we will get some starting info then. He also had a mtg with the students on Wed to talk about SAT/ACT registration and plans, nothing individual yet.

And good luck to the SAT takers tomorrow. My Ds have a big state ski race, I’ll be travelling home either late late tonight or early early tomorrow since I volunteered to help at the race.

DougBetsy- don’t worry about the last minute change of plans on the tests. D had originally planned to take one last June, and realized she wasn’t prepared and slept in. Some of her friends hassled her because they called her name and they waited to start the test, which was bizarre. But it was definitely the right decision.

QM, you’ve gotten some great suggestions for safety. Others not always on the cc radar are unc-wilmington or asheville. Also check out Elon.

Whew - finals week is over!!! It has been a long and hard week for my DD. I’m very proud of her effort, and , regardless of the results, she knows that she did her very best.

She is another one who will not be taking the SATs tomorrow - I hear rumors of a shopping, movie and sleep-over filled weekend :)

Good for her!!!

My D took her last final this morning (pre-calc) and is planning the same kind of weekend…except…she is studying-for her learner’s permit test. I promised to take her to the DMV on Monday (they have no school).

Yup! Same here. As of today, semester 1 is history.

Just got the final H Trig grade: 83%. (You may recall he was down to 62% in mid-December thanks to nasty identities.) We’re doing the happy dance at our house.

No school on Monday since the teachers are submitting report card grades. We’re using that day to see University of Delaware. Will report back.

scualum - glad your D will be enjoying herself while mine will be slaving away over her SAT. JK - I know she earned her weekend of fun.

jackief - hope your father’s tests all go well. And hooray for neighbors who don’t close off access to their wireless routers! I hope your D’s meeting with her counselor goes well. My D’s counselor asked me to have her set up another meeting for the near future, but I couldn’t remember exactly why - I guess to go over her choices again, once she’s looked over the counselor’s list (which I still haven’t received).

Good luck to both of your girls tomorrow!

Thanks for the good luck wishes, everyone.

Oh, Queen’s Mom - you just reminded me - my D signed up to take her road test next Friday. I am so nervous for her!

Congrats to all of your kids on finishing their finals. My D has midterms and regents next week. :stuck_out_tongue: She’s actually sort of happy about it - it means no classes all week.

Good luck to your D, LIMOMOF2.

Thank, QM.

DougBetsy, I’ll be interested in your UDel report. We’ll definitely be visiting sometime soon (it’s only an hour from us), as it’s a place S is interested in.

And congrats on the Trig grade! Right now S, a B math student, is pulling an A- in Algebra II. I only hope he can keep it up through the end of the year…

SATs tomorrow for my D too. First time taking them since 8th grade, but at least she’s had some exposure. Anyone else’s kid hate the essay part as much as mine does? She’s a fine writer, but takes after me in liking to think things through before writing.

Congrats to all the hard workers for the end of exam week & 1st semester!

My S lucked out…got a solid C on his big APUSH research paper, but his many 100s on tests, quizzes, & homework carried him over to get an A for the quarter!

He’s more of a math/science student. Good memory and thus good in history, but somewhat lazy in the nitpicky research paper area! Like so many students, doesn’t really believe the teacher when she says these things need to be done a certain way…

astromom - good luck to your D.

Congrats mommusic. I’m glad your S managed to salvage his A for the quarter in spite of his not so stellar research paper.

Hi everybody, my twin sons are taking their first shot at the SAT’s also. Our motto is, “One and done.” Well, at least that’s what they’re aiming for. One of them came home to tell me that kids were taking the day off today “to study” for the SAT’s. Ugh. Enough. Either you’ve prepared by this point, or you haven’t.

astromom, I “insisted” that my boys try a practice essay last week, just to see how fast 25 minutes goes by. They were glad that they had. I let them grade each others essay. :)

I wish we could have been “done with one” but both D and I think she can do much better.

For a lot of kids, improvement comes each time they take the test. D was a ‘one and done’, but S improved so much from his soph to his junior PSAT, I’m hoping he does even better when he takes the SAT in March. (He certainly has room for improvement!)

Well, I’m a little nervous - D took the SAT in Dec., and her math and writing scores were high enough that I’m worried about them going down. I think it’s really important that her CR score go up though, and that’s why she’s retaking. We’ll see what happens. We were hoping for the one and done, but it didn’t happen.

Good luck to the other SAT takers.
