Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

Well, the time came and went. From what we understand, so long as it says “registered” and not “tested” his scores will not be up today but I don’t know when they will be up. I hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Mike, Good luck!

YDS, Physics past 11 PM? I admire your kid’s fortitude. Hopefully the teacher will cut them some slack.

S is going to bed. I’m off to read.

my ninth grader was up until past 11 doing a geography project. and she usually goes to bed at about 9!!!

i am happy with her score - 29 - not the goal score, but i think this score makes the goal score reachable. at least i hope so!!

Mike, That’s great! Congratulations to your daughter!

thanks!

:)

how did your student do??

nvm … i just remembered you had “registered.”

: (

I looked for the ACT online. Thrilled to see that they will email when the results are available. The window is April 15 to May 29 (or so). I’m guessing we’ll be in the last group to find out.

Karen Colleges - I remember getting very frustrated waiting for those ACT scores to appear after my D took the test in December. They came out on maybe the 4th or 5th day, but it seemed like forever. D’s essay score came a day or two after that, I believe. Good luck to you and to all others waiting for results.

Congrats to your D, Mike W.

BTW - how the heck does your D get to bed by 9? My D is often not even home from school by 9…lol.

YDS - hope the physics teacher is kind to your S and his teammates. Can’t believe this is your S’s first real late-night though. We have had far too many of them over the past three years - especially this year.

LImom, we just don’t let him stay up. Our deal is that if he can’t be done with what needs to get done by 10, then something’s wrong and has to give. There are lots of top 10%ers who operate on 2-4 hours of sleep a night, but we don’t think it’s healthy. And he has to wake up at 5:30 for the bus, so a decent bedtime is a must.

Up until this year, we had a firm 9 p.m. bedtime!

Congrats on the score, Mike.

Ds’s never done ACT. What’s up with the staggered release time?

I totally forgot about the ACT scores until I saw the discussion here. I had checked D a few days ago and she was still registered. I wasn’t going to check myself, but asked her if she wanted to check them and she already had and they weren’t up. Hers were up the first day last time. Do they release new batches on a 24hr schedule, ie at midnight other days?

Congrats Mike W and D.

YDS - the ACT’s staggered release time is so annoying! Not sure what’s up with it - at first I thought it was the essays, but they released the composite score before the essay score, so that’s not it.

I can’t get over that some of your kids have been able to get to bed by 9 for so long. My D gets up by 5:45, and she tries to get to bed by 11, but that’s not always possible. It’s not that she’s doing homework for hours - it’s just that often her EC commitments keep her out late. I agree that it’s not good for her, but I haven’t been able to convince her to give up any of her ECs.

Hallelujah! 29!

30-27-29-28 (writing not yet available)

Yes! He can overcome that SAT 1180/1720! Dare I say, we might take the reach schools out of the trash.

My work life has been hectic, chaotic, depressing drudgery since the beginning of March. (Coincides with less posting here.) This score is the first bright spot I’ve seen in 6 weeks. Something is FINALLY looking up.

Woohoo, DB!

high five DB! :D

I’m happy when both D’s get to bed by midnight, D2 is definitely distracted by social things and could be done earlier, D1 not so much… They get up around 6/6:30.

jackief, I think the fact that we enforce a strict bedtime is why my guys are so organized with their time during the day. When teachers give them class time to work on stuff, they use it wisely instead of goofing off (ds1) or flirting (ds2). Now, I did notice that ds, at some point during his late night, managed to check on his fantasy baseball team!

i dont enforce bedtime. both my kids just like to go to bed early. they are just tired by 9 or 10, so they go to bed. when there are ECs during the week, they are WIPED OUT by the time friday comes!

Congrats, DB! I’m so happy for your S (and for you) as I can tell how relieved you are!

DB:

Looks like spring has finally sprung in your household, with a wave of relief. Congrats.

Ugh…we don’t know what do do over here:

SAT

Test 1: 760M 590CR 630W 1980 Total
Test 2: 670M 670CR 630W 1970 Total

SAT Superscore: 2060 Total

ACT

Test 1 (only test): Composite: 30 29E 30M 32R 30S

I think this officially makes the SAT super score better than the ACT, but the ACT similar/maybe better than (?) any individual ACT. My son is thinking that maybe he will try the ACT once more since he didn’t really prep for it…but I’m thinking he might be better off spending the time trying to raise his GPA, which isn’t in line with these scores.

He and his father are visiting Michigan today. I’m an alum (as is my husband) and would love to see him go there, but chances are slim to non that he will get in I think. Also, he may think the school is too big…he certainly felt that way about Indiana. All of the schools they are seeing this week are big ones, which I’m now realizing was a mistake…but he doesn’t want to add yet another school to the trip list right now…

Hi all,

I haven’t been here much lately, and it seems that when I do come on CC I find a very long, interesting thread that I haven’t seem before, and end up getting sucked into it. I just read the one in the cafe about jdjaguar’s son and read the entire thread. I am drained.

This last weekend was S’s tiny spring break (he only gets Thurs - Mon.) and we had plans to fly on Friday to visit Carleton and Macalester. But late Thursday evening we got a call from H’s sister, she said it appeared that H’s father was having a heart attack. He had been able to call 9-1-1 himself, thank goodness, since he lives alone (at age 80!)

We quickly changed our flights and flew to be with him and family instead. He did not suffer an actual heart attack, but has congestive heart failure. He is recovering fairly well, and went home yesterday. I was so glad we could be there, and get there so quickly – we were already packed! :)

Glad to her your FIL is doing better. Posts like jd’s do help put life in perspective.
