DS loves a quirky mascot. I think the sagehen is what makes Pomona so interesting to him!

IloveLA is a proud Banana Slug.

[Banana slug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Banana slug - Wikipedia)

I had to look it up to see if itās a real thing!

Some other Odd mascots:

The Fighting Artichoke

The Fighting Okra

& The Fighting Pickle

ag54:

What a great last name for the Stanford QB.

IloveLA:

Actually, my Sās wry humor lends itself toward liking quirky mascots. I just think heād pick UCSB over UCSC due to the physics program. He still hasnāt settled on his mid-tier UC school selections, thought.

Itās okay. My daughter isnāt considering UCSC either.

Donāt forget:

The Purple Cows

The Blue Hens

My kids thought that the Banana Slug is a very cool mascot. (They are impressive when you see one.)

Carnegie Mellon used to just have the ācolorā tartan as their mascot, but they decided recently they wanted something more traditional so they have a cute Scottie. [About Scotty - Carnegie Mellonās Mascot - Carnegie Mellon University](<a href=āIndex - Carnegie Mellon University Athleticsā>Index - Carnegie Mellon University Athletics)

Stanfordās in good company on that color thing. Harvardās sports teams are the Crimson, the University of Chicagoās are the Maroons (after the color, but why plural Iāll never know), and Cornellās are the Big Red (I didnāt know colors came in sizes). Then of course thereās the Alabama Crimson Tide, which to me evokes awful images of a particularly bloody beach invasion.

And Dartmouth is the Big Green and Manchester, NH Central HS is the Little Green.

Go Big Red

Cornell also has a bear but it isnāt the official mascot

Ds has his first official AP exam study session tonight. Something the teacher organized. Woohoo!

That Scottie Dog is just about the cutest thing! I may have to push Carnegie Mellon as an option ;)

YDS:

Unfortunately, the study sessions for AP sessions at our HS tend to be ⦠right after school. This doesnāt work out very well for the athletes, needless to say.

AP season has landed on us hard. Daughter has 3 AP classes. All 3 teachers are holding extra study sessions on nights and weekends. Thatās in addition to the already required weekly study groups for APUSH. Plus they need to read extra chapters each night to get them past the Great Depression.

FAP, I totally understand. This teacher (APUSH) has had study sessions all year the night before the tests, off-campus, but he started them at 6, when ds is still at practice. This one starts at 7, so doable.

Isnāt it great to have teachers who put forth so much extra effort?

S2 had an APUSH review at 7am this morning.

LIMOMOF2: She had the ACT practice tests for AP English homework. Everyone here has to take the ACTās so I think itās a last minute push like they do when they administer the district standardized testing in the lower grades (which my youngest gets to take next week. Last time ever. Woo Woo!) I know that my Jr. said they will be reviewing lower math skills monday and tuesday to brush up for the ACTās; I think sheās forgotten geometry
Luckily she takes the SATās on May 2nd so sheāll be brushed up for both :)

The AP stress is building here too. DDās APUSH class is a decade behind the other class, so sheās planning on borrowing notes. They havenāt gotten to WWII yet in the class.

It sounds like the APUSH classes are at various decades across the country. Before the 2 week (!) spring break here that started April 6, my S indicated they were past the Vietnam War. Studying it had some resonance for him, since we were fortunate enough to visit there four summers ago.

My daughter says they are going to cover WWII in three hours.

My D says they are watching a movie about WWII and that is probably going to be all they get on it.
