Ok, I’m joining in. I’ve been lurking since this thread started. S is a jr. and finally getting his act together in school. Admissions people ae going to look at his grades and wonder what on earth he’d been doing for the first two years of school. At this point, I’m relieved that he’s got a decent GPA - but it still urks me to think about the “what ifs”. If things had clicked in his head just a year sooner…Anyway, he’s taking the APs in stats and engl and the SAT in May and actually “semi” prepping. Tomorrow night is the college fair in this region - I’m eager to see what he seeks out and what he learns.

Argh. I have a band festival on the same day as Swarthmore Junior Visit Day on the same day of my birth.

Calmness has descended. She took 2 Science ACT’s on the computer after she got home today and scored more than double what she did this afternoon. Much more in character for her. I’ll be so happy for her when all this testing is over.

Went to Ben & Jerry’s & had our cones. All seems well again.

This is what some high PSAT scorers are getting notified about:

My daughter hasn’t heard anything yet, though.

Keilexandra - sounds like one of my D’s days. She has scheduling conflicts pratically everyday, and this time of year, it gets incredibly tricky trying to fit things in - especially with the rainy weather we’ve been having which means rescheduled sports events added into the mix. Happy Birthday, by the way! :)

RobD - glad your D’s been getting better results on her practice science tests. I’m sorry, but when you said she bombed the first one, I didn’t take it that seriously, but for her to be scoring more than double her original score, that first one must have been low - now wonder she panicked. Yay for getting back on track! A boy I know who graduated last year was telling me that he scored in the 98th percentile for English, but in the 2nd percentile for science! I imagine they don’t often see such score disparities in one person’s test…lol.

Son’s question last night was music to my ears: “Mom, wanna see my report card?” :)

He was already digging it out of the backpack before I could answer. 5 As and 2 Bs. (AP World & AP Stat.) We think it’s his best since straight As in Q1 of 6th grade.

Sure, we’re proud of him. But better yet, he’s proud of himself. He was beaming all night and I think he fell asleep with a smile on his face. Happy day.

Welcome, lilmom.

DB:

It’s a very good sign when they become internally proud of their own accomplishments, since this is what will sustain them to be successful as they move forward into the adult world, where the common approach is to only give the trophies out to the winning team or infrequent words of praise from the boss.

Morning all. Dh is still in the hospital. Im too exhausted to explain. We’ll have definitive answers in the next couple of hours as he’s undergoing a catheterization procedure rght now.

Meanwhile, ds got his letter. Yea! A bright spot in this week.

YDS, congrats to your S! I’m not surprised that you’re exhausted - hope you can get some rest at some point, and that all turns out well for your H. Keep us posted when you can…

YDS, I’m sending positive and hopeful vibes to you through cyberspace. Take care of your H, your family and yourself first, then update us when you have a chance. Congrats to your son!

He just got back in the room, and all is fine. Woohoo! We’ll be going home this afternoon.

Hurray! :D

That is great news, YDS! And high-five to DB too!

Following this thread is really fun- it is nice to read about all your kids, their challenges and triumphs. I’m getting to be quite fond of them and it will be nice to follow their journeys over the next year. Here’s wishing everyone happy outcomes!

OK, so ds showed me the letter this morning as I was running out the door to the hospital. I noticed it was two pages. What did it say? Is there anything he has to do with it, or does it just notify you that you made the cut?

YDS, that’s great news. I’ve been a little nuts this week (mom not doing well) but I wanted to check in with you. You’ve been in my thoughts.

any of your jr going to prom this year? DS is.

Instead of worrying about 5 AP, 2 SAT II and ACT with writting coming up, he is more focused on matching color of his vest to his date’s dress.

The limos has been reserved and Tuxedo ordered. Party on!!!

It’s from the NMS Corp. It informs your S that he’s among the top 50,000 out of 1.5 million. The College Plans Reporting Service will provide name, address, hs name & address, PSAT scores, tentative major and career choice to two colleges. Response deadline is May 26.

Dad II - no junior prom at D’s school.
She did go to the senior prom last year, with her then-BF, but she’s not dating anyone these days - no time. Hope your S has fun at his prom, and good luck finding that matching vest.

zoosermom - I’ve been wondering, how’s your mom doing? Better, I hope?

YDS - great news about your DH being able to come home this afternoon - yay! Now, maybe you can get some rest too!

Also, congrats to your DS.

DougBetsy - Congrats to your DS too! Wonderful news!

vp - I know exactly what you mean - I feel the same way.

Oh yeah - forgot to add my congrats to your son, DougBetsy! Isn’t it great when they can really take pride in their hard work?

And zm, hugs to you and prayers for your mom.

zoosermom - I apologize - I didn’t see the part of your post about your mom. I’m sorry that she’s still not doing well. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom.
