Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

This morning was ds’s first, so I have no idea how it went yet. Friend in Cali said her ds felt confident after his.

Good luck, QM’s’ d!

Wow, 4.5 straight weeks of company? Here is a hug and a drink!

QM, Fingers crossed!

WP2:

Wow, you should have stopped by the virtual Cinqo de Mayo party on the '09 board.

QM:

There’s enough time left in this school year to rehearse and put on a play? Bon chance!

I love it!!!

OK, here’s the story. It is not for the school play, but for her musical theater class. She’s happy anyway and therefore so am I.

Oh, and they will be performing it in front of parents and students before the end of the year.

Congratulations to QM’sD. Now that we’ve run out of chips and salsa, here’s a well timed article from Men’s Health, on the best and worst “brain foods.” My daughter had blueberries for breakfast this morning, hope it helped on the Calc exam.

IloveLA:

I LOVE having coffee and fresh blueberries/yogurt for breakfast. Blueberries were my craving when I was pregnant too, along with the freshest green salads until my H REALLY got tired of them and wanted something different.

ILoveLA, how’d your dd feel about the exam? Ds felt reasonably confident. Said several kids didn’t finiish, but he was able to.

she’s not back from school yet. She was nervous going in, that’s for sure.

Pitzer’s acceptance rate was something like 27% this year, a significant drop. Scripps is actually the least selective of the Claremonts.

I am kind of annoyed that Pomona isn’t bothering to tour the East Coast with the Claremonts, and that the CTCL info session doesn’t come to Philly (closest is DC, but I’m busy that weekend).

Calc AB was… okay. I feel like I probably did well enough to get a 4, maybe a borderline 5 if the curve is generous. There were some practically-omits on free-response, though.

Congrats to QueenMom’s daughter! That’s just wonderful.

S2 took AB Calc this AM and was happy. Said it was a bit harder than he expected, but felt confident he did well. Tomorrow AM is AP Lit.

I’ve proctored in similar scenarios where kids who were running late had an afternoon test. (Last year I proctored AP Spanish in the am/Stat in the pm.) We asked before the AM exam began who was also taking an afternoon test, and had the kids who were taking Stat among the first groups of Spanish Lang kids who would record in the language lab. Noone objected, and that usually took care of any issues.

If there are enough kids so that the afternoon test is given in two rooms, one could also make sure all the late students are in one room and have them start a few minutes after the other. It all works out – at the school where I proctored, we really tried to make the logistics something the kids didn’t have to worry about so they could focus on doing well.

I’ve also proctored in extended time scenarios where one exam gets accommodations and the other doesn’t. AP works with schools on coordinating times and exams in those cases. I was continually amazed at the work ethic and dedication of kids who got 50% or 100% extra time accommodations AND had two tests scheduled for the same day. It was exhausting to proctor that long; can’t imagine how it would feel to TAKE the exams!

D is also reasonably satisfied with her AB Calc, meaning she thinks she is still in the running for a 5. She is feeling a little under the weather though…I am not sure if she will be able to go to school tomorrow. Hopefully she recovers by APUSH on Friday :-)

Congrats to QM’s D. I’m glad she’s happy, and I’m glad you’ll get to see her perform.

WP - I don’t know how you did it! I can’t take having company for more than a few days!

Keilexandra - glad you were ok with your exam today. Sounds like most of the kids were.

vp - if your D isn’t feeling well tomorrow, let her stay home and recuperate. Hope she’s ok for the test on Friday.

vp:

Sounds like a case of the AP flu brewing. Let her rest it out.

I agree with the AP flu. TLC from loving parents is the only known cure.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on your support to keep her home :-).

Are there any other sufferers of the AP flu out here? Its a pretty nasty bug that can even spread on the internet. In case anyone is interested, I’ve packaged a little does of the virus right here:

(Ah choo!).

A band festival that conflicted with Swarthmore’s Junior Visit Day just got canceled! I mean, I’d been gearing up to fight for make-up rights anyway–had parents and (my, it’s cross-enrollment) school admin on my side–but this makes life so much easier. My excuse was that large groups really shouldn’t be traveling to UDel to congregate when 20 cases of swine flu have been confirmed there (almost all of the cases in Delaware). I guess the organizers are more reasonable than my band director, who was planning to give me a 0 for the performance if I didn’t attend the Saturday “field trip.”

Has anyone discovered that by the process of elimination, CC can put the “six degrees of separation” thing to shame? Without revealing confidences, I just found out someone on another board is a relative to a kid in my S’s class. Just another side benefit of CC.

S came home from the league swim meet after 9:30 last night. Good thing APUSH test is FRIDAY morning.

While I was dropping D off at school earlier this morning, she told me that she may call me to pick her up this afternoon. She wants to fit in some studying for APUSH, and she said kids have been taking off all week for exams. I told her that would be fine, but I have things to do this morning, so she should give me a few hours so I’d be available to sign her out. Even if I sign her out for the afternoon, she has to go back for sports - and it’s another rainy day, so I don’t even think they’ll do anything - but she says she has to be there.
