Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

Jackief, thanks for the input. Even though he is in the median or above (except for the writing part) he should give it another go. I had hoped to let him off the hook a bit with the AP’s and SAT II this spring. but we get one shot at it and want to do it well

D got her PSAT scores back today and happily she will make NMSF. Good luck to all who are still waiting.

Congrats to your D, vicariousparent! No word from S2’s school yet; suspect we’ll find out online on the 15th. Between EA results coming out and PSATs, the entire internet may crash!

Looks like we’re finding out online on the 15th as well. Apparently D’s guidance counselor doesn’t know where her PSAT scores are and doesn’t care, and the college board is saying they won’t do anything until after the 15th when they will only talk to the guidance counselor, not parents or student. However, since the scores should be up on the 15th, I guess that’s all that matters.

Vparent:

Congrats to your D. It looks like the bulk of us will be waiting around until, as CountingDown put it, the Internet crashes on 12/15. (Hmm, DH is overseas on business, better remind him of the significance of that day.)

NWMom: I told my S he can retake the SAT if he needs to in May. At least he’s lucky and will have a four day gap between that and his first AP test, since most of his are week two (including TWO tests for Physics C, yikes!, back to back.) Hopefully, this will set him up nicely for his physics Subject Test in June.

Then again … he was musing the other day about what will happen with his AP Physics class in June, after the AP test. It’s a first period class, and he’s the only junior. Last year, the seniors ended up using quite a bit of first period time to “prep” for grad ceremonies, so of course he’s wondering if the teacher will let him off the hook … so he can sleep in. LOL!

FindAPlace - haven’t even seen the AP schedule yet - you are too efficient for me!

Good luck to all of you awaiting your PSAT scores. I know it must be nerve-wracking for you. Now we’re feeling it waiting for the SATs.

vicariousparent - congrats on your D’s excellent score.

DougBetsy - congrats to your S on passing his road test! I’m sure you have mixed feelings about this, but it is good news. Are you getting him a car, or will he be sharing yours?

Congrats, vp!

^^ Thanks. My only part in it was to make her take a practice test or two before the exam. And to sharpen her pencils for her, give her fresh batteries for her calculator and beg her to eat before heading out for the test.

Congratulation VP - great news…

Judging from when DS went through two years ago, we won’t hear back on DD scores until January - probably late Jan. Why so late? They couldn’t really say last time and I am sure will have a lame excuse this time as well.

We finally got PSAT scores today. S was not very happy with his scores, but if the cutoff is anywhere near last year, he made it! When I reminded him of that he felt better. But he’s fighting a sinus infection ( H is also --I’m trying not to breathe in the house  ) and isn’t getting very excited about anything.

But S and I were very happy to finally have the scores!

Congratulations to your son, BengalMom, and hope he feels better!

Congrats VP and Bengalmom. Can I ask what part of the country you are from. Our school said we would get the results in early Jan. though they should all be released at the same time. Wonder why they are making us wait

FindAPlace , after the AP exams they just seem to hang out in class. watch movies. especially since our physics and calc class is all seniors as well. They worked hard, let em hang out. my s is taking calc and phys satII in june. he took world history last year so if all goes well he’ll have his 3 finished
Good luck to all with the PSAT scores. Another item to check off

northwest mom - in case you missed it earlier, you’ll be able to find out your son’s scores on the collegeboard web site in mid-December. Just go to the site, and sign up, and they’ll send you an email when the scores are posted.

BengalMom - congrats to your S. I’m sorry he wasn’t happy with his score - it sounds like he should be.

ACT this weekend, and then hopefully, some downtime for D. Good luck to all the kids taking the ACT this week. I know they’ll all be ready for their winter breaks this year!

Amen to a break! I can tell that my son is so burnt out! He has been working so hard. He is taking the ACT on Saturday.

That was weird. Limomof2 posted before I did and her post is after mine. The time shows that she posted after I did. hmmm… oh well… still amen to a break! And I just posted on top of limomof2 a second time. weird…

Thanks. He’ll be getting a hand-me-down car from DH. 1998 Honda Accord with 134K miles. When we bought it 10 years ago I remember thinking, “wow, if we hold on to this for 10 years, maybe Son can drive it in HS.” Hard to believe that day is here.

On Saturday H got an early bday/Xmas present: 2009 Accord. Since I drive a 2002 Odyssey I guess 3 Hondas make us pretty loyal, huh?

NEMom:

Occasionally, the CC web site has a “hiccup” and does this nonconsecutive posting of replies. It’s weird and has happened before on this incident with other threads as well, so hopefully the moderators can cure the ill. Either that, or some of us may be lucky enough to sound really prescient!

Congrats to VP and Bengalmom’s kiddos. You can be very proud of them.

Congrats VM and BengalMom, I hope when we get scores on Thursday it is the same results (crossing fingers tightly!!)

My son is taking the ACT this weekend also. He has been spending about an hour and a half each night this past week doing the study guide online. Hopefully, he can take it this once and be done with it. His PLAN scores from last year were really high, so it will be interesting if it is a true indicator of how he performs on the actual ACT.

Well, I want to say up front that my son will not be a NMSF, when we finally found out the scores. Hope I can keep posting here.

j/k You’d have to beat me off with a stick. :D
