Amandak, this cracked me up.

Don’t you find that at certain frazzled, stressed, exhausted moments, you look at the next prompt or question on an app and feel like screaming, “What the #*@ do ya need to know that for???”

My congrats, too, kathiep. That’s awesome news!

EmmyBet, great to hear; keep rolling!

Hi everyone, it’s been a few days since I last posted. I’ve kept up with the reading of this thread which I subscribe to but because I’ve been so busy, I haven’t been able either to read it in one sitting each morning as I usually do or to post a comment.

Hollisue, you have my condolences.

Kathiep, you have my hearty congratulations.

Amandak, that Michigan essay can be about any community, including his immediate family. does your extended family ever do reunions? that might work. my son had the same prompt when he applied to private HS and wrote about how his immediate family and what we do together had shaped him into who he is, his values and his interests.

Well, S submitted another supplement tonight to an EA school. After taking a look at his SAT II score tomorrow and deciding whether to include it on his CA, he’ll hit the CA submit button for this EA and his ED. That will make 4 apps done on his end. His GC and one of his teachers submitted their stuff but we are still dealing w/ one rogue teacher who submitted her recommendation to his 2 rolling schools two weeks after his app was done and has now told my son that she writing a different rec for these schools because its his ED and favorite EA. What? It’s Oct 27 and she has yet to submit. Why does this process require so much agita? (Can you tell I’m Italian?) I just feel badly because he’s working so hard on school work, his athletics and these apps, and it just doesn’t seem fair that he must also be a paper chaser.

Congrats to your S Kathie!

LOL. S took a similar test a couple of years ago in his guidance class. The result were so ridiculous it made me wonder why they waste their time. If the results said something like: get a job working with people/not working with people, you like detail work/you don’t like detail work, etc and here is a list of they types of jobs that fit that criteria, but they always tell you one or two specific jobs that are way out in left field. Please get back to us in 20 years if she ends up a carpenter!

Nice to get that rolling app in Omom! I can’t wait to join that group.

I found out Sunday afternoon that a friend 10yo D was visting all day Sunday had been exposed to someone with lice the day before. 10yo’s friends Mother just found out or would have cancelled the playdate. I told friends Mother exposure to strep would be easier for me to take than nits. JK. I haven’t checked D yet, she isn’t itching and I think I will throw up if I find any in her hair, but I suppose better sooner than later.

All I can say is today is a good day in our house!! Whoot-Whoot for the SAT scores!!
One goal, and one goal only was to bring up one single section. He did beautifully.
I may have goofed going through that irritating score choice issue, however as I understand the schools automatically take the best of the three sections for the students anyway. There were only two tests, sent at the same time, so it’s not rocket science. I hope all other students and parents got good news as well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will give him the final push to study for another week for the SAT2s. :)

kathiep, congrats to your S! We’re waiting to hear from Drexel. S got an e-mail his application was complete over a week ago, then he logged in last night and it says waiting on HS transcript, so he doesn’t know what’s going on there.

BlueI- Congrats to your S on his scores!. I sometimes think I should have had S retake the SAT 2’s but only one of his schools required them and it wasn’t his first choice. Good luck with the 2’s

Congrats to Kathiep’s son and all those with good SAT results.

Congrats to your son kathiep! I wish we were anywhere near seeing an acceptance. He refuses to apply to a rolling admissions school that he doesn’t have any interest in attending, despite my strong suggestion (okay, nagging) to do so. He does have one EA that’s due 11/15 that he will hear from 1/15. I’m hoping that’s good enough. Common App essay – which I haven’t been invited to read – needs editing. I did convince him to at least get his college brother to read the essay. He’s a good writer and has been through the process, so perhaps (?!) will give some constructive criticism. But S1 is preparing for an Organic Chem midterm, so has put off S2 for a few more days.

Question – New SAT scores were fabulous in 2 sections, down in one. I know with score choice that most of his schools will accept the highest scores from each section. Will it reflect negatively that he had a nearly perfect score in one area and dropped 70 points on the retake? Just wondering if we should send these or not. I know that they will automatically be sent to schools if we request scores to be sent now, but we sent the earlier scores off to some (not all) schools after the first round so some schools may never see these if we don’t re-send.

CA question.

Can schools see what other schools you are applying to? I would like S to list other similar schools down when it asks “what other schools are you applying to?” rather than all the schools.

Hi All,

SAT scores are in-he crushed it! Against my advice he retook them instead of taking the Subject tests-and he was right.

Third and last time-yeah! Now this score choice is interesting-this last sitting was his highest in everything so can we just send that-or do we have to send all three? Each time he went up and each time his scores were higher is each subject.

Ohio I don’t think the scores dropping is a big deal-they give a range is the estimate somewhere which I think is 100 points either way.

The details for him are not available until 11/2-is anyone else getting that message. That didn’t happen the other two times so I hope there isn’t a problem-there goes that parental worry thing!

Now if he would only get the essay and CA done we’d be in great shape-of course the subject tests are now looming-almost to the finish line though with this testing.

YEAH!!! Finally (third times a charm?) got that cr up!
He balked at taking subject tests Nov. and pushed that to Dec. GC (bless his heart) all done on his end, now just to double ck with those LORs. Keep asking ds to ck in with those 2 teachers and he always forgets.

We are all happy with son’s acceptance, but truthfully, unless they come through with some money, Drexel is financially iffy. Son knows this too. It just feels really good to know that a good school wants him. He’s got a couple of other rolling admissions schools to hear from too, unfortunately two of them are reaches so might not be good news.

On my son’s applications where it asks, “What other schools are you applying to?” He’s put down the ones that are in the same cohort as the one he’s applying. There is nothing that says that you have to list every single school that they’re applying to.

Morning All

Congrats to all of the families celebrating acceptances!!!

Congrats to all of the families celebrating scores!!

AmandaK…that essay could be interesting and funny!! Truly—might want to take a bit of an ironic tone --how his “village” feels some ownership and pride in him…and he’s just trying to get through puberty/hs/classes/dating/band practice/identity with two racial groups/multiple cultures etc etc…unscathed…
Actually it could be a funny teen-ager novel!

Has anyone heard from OlderWiserMom, her student had been really ill (food poisoning or viral), spent the night in the motel and then had to slug it out on the tests with no sleep etc…after being so sick. Praying it all worked out for them--

Apps update here–the battle over snail mail was won by a full day of emailing with GC and college–and finally an email from said college to the GC requesting a FAX of the LORS–the app reading had been held up more than 10 days without the LORs…
Got word yesterday that they have offically begun reading app…having gotten the fax from GC the afternoon prior…

Well today I am going to try and get some things done—tomorrow I am at a highschool for the day…The last two times I have been there, I have written referrals for suspension. The administration likes me, and most of the students…and I guess some are learning that they will get caught if they make bad choices…Frankly I prefer the carrot over the stick–some just chose the harder path…

blueiguana: we are truly living in the same universe! SAT scores up 110 points! Despite throwing up for two hours in the hotel the night before. Math jumped 70, writing jumped 40 and CR stayed the same. (I think that is directly related to no sleep and anxiety.)

So, now his SAT “reflects” his PSAT and I think NM Finalist status is looking much better. (And as a budding nuclear physicist/engineer the math score was REALLY important to him.)

Math teacher and chemistry teacher have been working with him for SAT II subject tests. No hotel this time and only my home-cooked food the night before. We will drive 30 miles to those tests next Saturday–and THEN BE DONE!

Thanks, fogfog for inquiring! And congratulations to everyone on great scores and acceptances.

DS2 also was very happy this morning with the final SAT scores, and received an acceptance to his safety school this week…

OWM

I am sooo happy for you–and for your student. He needed it to break his way–What a trooper!!

D2 is furious because her SAT 2 scores have been delayed. None of the reasons given seem to fit her situation. She’s ranting about how much money she’s paid for these scores and the time and effort, and I can’t say I disagree.

Great Job SATers!! I bet you and your children are over the moon…

Kathie…Congrats to your son on his acceptance.

Battle of the bugs is being hard fought and hopefully won deep in the heart of Texas! Of course I have to go send and hour with the little bug infested rug rats for reading today. My hair is in a ball cap and I put a sweatsuit in the foyer so I could strip down as soon as I walk in the house. That has been the MO in the house. My son says living here is like a scene out of Monsters, Inc when the child protection unit swoops in. But I just can’t deal with the thought of them entering my house. I don’t want have to make that phone call to the professional association of nitpickers.

We are one 200 response away from finishing the Honors Supplement to D’s “accepted” school. Thank goodness!

Have a great day everyone one!!

congratulations to all the SAT takers – sounds like everyone improved!!

My S isn’t so happy about his SAT II math 2 score and we’re wondering whether we should send it. He has two SAT II scores (history, bio) already that are 750+ but this one is a 720. He did so much better on the practice tests. the 720 is only 68% and his top choice schools aren’t HYP but the tier just below. What do you guys think? Send it or not?

He’s already signed up to take it again next week but by the time we get that score, his ED/EA/Rolling apps may be already decided. Although these schools only request 2 SAT IIs, it seems that most kids applying at that level have at least 3 to report.
