Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

Stopped home for lunch and checked the mail. D received two letters- one from a school’s admissions office saying congratulations on the envelope ( yay… No mystery there), the other a big, fat envelope from one of her top two choices!!! Hmmm… What were those suggestions for steaming envelopes open??? Haha! Back to work for me where I can hope not to be too distracted!!!

Yea! Doing the happy dance for you & your daughter Hollie!! We always joke that the mailman knows everything first in our neighborhood. :)

I can’t even get on the stinking website to see if the second school bluejr applied to has all materials. I know the guest account was created because I can access the page to make changes. When I try to log in to look at application status…no access. Excellent! Yet another email to tech support. He won’t have an answer for months, I just want to confirm they have everything and move on. What a PITA!!!

Keylime…

When CB gets back with you in 5-7 days, I would make sure they know that you had to pay to have the score resent because EA school has no record of it. If it was indeed CB’s error, I would ask for a refund on my CC. JMO.

Congrats HS…I am hoping there is something in the mailbox today although it might be too early, but goodness, she could use some positive news this week! And kudos for you for not opening the darn thing up. I could never wait. But I am impatient that way…at least I admit it…lol. I was always that kid that tried to unwrap just a small corner on any found gift just to take a peek.

Collegeshopping - I may not have opened it, but I held it up to the light! Haha. Seriously, if I was staying at home with the mail it would have been hard not to open it, but I want my d to be able to do it!

holliesue: how exciting!!! let us know when she gets home (and of course, what school!!)

Been away all weekend and trying to get caught up. Big congratulations to those with apps going out the door and acceptances and merit $$ coming in the door. Great stuff is happening for so many kids. Its really fun to read about it.

While I was away D gave token attention to her essay and wrote some post-interview thank you notes. She also worked her regular job, helped a neighbor with a project and worked an admissions event at her high school. Like Emmybet, I have to keep reminding myself of all the stuff she is juggling on top of this college stuff. Wednesday evening is our next scheduled work session and I am keeping my fingers crossed that she can get a couple more non-CA apps out the door and I will order all her tests so that is done and hopefully I won’t have to worry further about it.

And so true about little ego boosts being lifeblood for them these days. Us too! We can’t forget that we need that fuel as well. So here’s to you parents of the class of 2015! You are all doing a great job sheperding your kids through this, supporting here, pushing there and juggling all your other responsibilities with grace and gumption. Take a moment to bask in your own accomplishments and smell the roses.

Holliesue, how exciting! Let us know.

I was surprised we heard so immediately from Ripon. I’m not expecting to hear from the others until Dec at the earliest…even the rolling ones. It’s too soon for me to get all worked up about it. I’d drive D (and you nice people) crazy!

HollieSue - Congrats to your D!

I was also wondering about those directions for steaming. My S got an envelope today from Xavier that says Congratulations! Can’t see through it and S will not be home til around midnight tonight. I will have to tell H to wake me when he gets home with S.

Just checked and school submitted all materials, teachers submitted all recs; DS had submitted app a week or so ago - so everyone met 11/15 EDI deadline and now we’re officially in the month of waiting! DS handling better than his old parents :)

Happy dancing for Hollie Sue!!! Steam works wonders, really. And a bit of glue stick, good as new. My kids know I am not to be trusted, thankfully they are ok with that!

siemom…whoot whoot!

Just a note…once anyone out there knows what college their child is going to choose…MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATIONS for move in day/day after. My sis told me about this one and I hopped on line this weekend and found that a good bit of the hotels in area of D’s top choice were already sold out or high dollar. I found one I could live with, made the reservation, no obligation and held with a CC that I can cancel 24 hours out. I picked the day before, day of, and day after move in and will adjust accordingly as the time gets closer!

I just got the mail and found a big “congratulations” envelope from Pitt. Luckily my daughter was home. The first acceptance feels really good!

Good luck to those waiting for kids to come home and open the mail.

holliesue - another yay for your D!

collegeshopping - I will see what CB tells me in a week. I have a feeling it’s going to be hard to figure out who dropped the ball. S didn’t apply yet to the other 3 colleges that he chose to receive the free score report, so I don’t know if there is the same issue there or not. And I might never find out.

So fun to check in here and read about all the great mail.

Just wondering if anyone else is still being inundated with marketing materials (snail mail and e-mail) from schools where your student has expressed no interest. Today, it was Nebraska (they send something about every other day), THE Ohio State University, Johns Hopkins, Cal Poly and UT-Dallas.

Our son was more excited about the Lego catalogue than any of that mail. (Yes, 17 and still a Lego lover.)

Yay for momjr and her D!

Congrats to all the kids and parents w/ acceptances or submitted apps… or progress of any kind for that matter. At this point- every step forward is worth congratulating.

D still has 3 apps to finish by 12/1, and one by 1/15. Only 1 needs an LOR, she (finally) requested that today. No happy dance for us yet, but a mini-happy dance that one of her Apps is now listed as “complete” on the school’s website. And she finished scholarship app for one of her EA schools.

olderwisermom: yes D still gets tons of emails from schools she is not interested in. It is nice to be able to “delete” and/or toss those w/out a second thought. Over the weekend, she purged her room of a big box of accumulated mail from such schools.

D let me know the contents of the mail…acceptances from both Elizabethtown College and Alfred University! AU is one of her two top choices, and E-town is right behind! Yay!! She rec’d the top scholarship at AU (no word on scholarship info yet from Etown)! We should hear from one more in the next week or so, one other after Dec 1, and two in January. So glad she got her apps in early! Phew!!!

Finally heard from Drexel - acceptance, honors college, merit scholarship. I may have trouble getting him to complete his third and final app now, but I would like him to have a choice if his ED school doesn’t work out. Breathing a sigh of relief though with the first acceptance.

congrats Mamabear!!! nice feeling huh?

ShawD has applied to one school, Mount Allison University. She had decided only to apply to Canadian schools and it is/has been for 14 out of the last 20 years the number one ranked undergraduate focused university in Canada (think Canada’s version of a LAC). Rolling admission. For some reason (maybe the interface between USPS and Canada Post), they hadn’t gotten her transcript, which was requested from the HS on October 17. On 10/29, the school had not received the transcript, so they requested that it be faxed. The GC didn’t fax it but says that she scanned it and sent it. On Friday, the school didn’t have her transcript in the file. Today, the school called and said that they had received the transcript and would be sending ShawD an offer letter. I assume this is an offer of admission (what other kind of offer would the admissions office make?). I wonder whether the university had it but hadn’t filed it properly or whether it just arrived.

In any case, ShawD is very happy. Now, only one more application, which she may do over the weekend now that the school’s online system is operating. She should hear from them within a month.
