Lots of great friends here. Best wishes to everyone.

OWM - I was just reaching for the box of tissues when I got to the part where you told me to get them. Very touching, and really so true and real. Everyone has a story and no matter what we envision for our children, it doesn’t always work out like we plan. We’re here to give them the tools and a framework to live their life by. It sounds like you’ve had yourself a wild ride the last couple of years! I’m sure there are many of us who would have found it hard to picture ourselves today. Does that make sense? Anyway, it sounds like it’s working out wonderfully.

My D received her second EA admission letter today from SUNY New Paltz and that’s knocked the first admission out of the box. This one is in her top 3 I’d say, so she’s a happy camper. I think we have another month before we hear from the other 2, so we’ll try and relax and enjoy our holidays with our families. Good luck & congrats to all. I know we’ll be getting a rejection or two in the future, I’m glad that the acceptances came first though for her sake.

bella - congrats! New Paltz is a wonderful school.

Hi guys, didn’t get the read the posts above since my last one today. will do so later but I have great news to share: my S, his girlfriend, and his best friend, just got into U of Chicago and they’re thrilled. His best friend – one of those rare 2400 SAT one sitting, studied a total of 3 hours for it – also got into MIT but UChicago is his first choice. We’ll be happy dancing through the night. what a week – the highs and lows. this is a heck of a ride.

bella - whoo-hoo!! So much dancing today! So glad for your daughter.

In the words of Harry Caray, HOLY COW!!! So happy for you - my alma mater.

That’s one heck of a party!! So happy for them all! :)

RenMom: how wonderful! Party tonight!

My kind of town, Chicago is…

RenMom - WOW! I was just imagining if only one or two of the three got in, how would that have felt. So glad for them all!

Yes, and New Paltz was where my sister had gone to school and she lives only 15 miles away so even though it’s 4 1/2 hours from us, it still would be a familiar place for us all. When we toured NP my sister joined us and that made it so much more fun. We got a personal tour of the Biology Dept. from the head of the department (over an hour!) and bonded with him over the fact that he and his wife just got some Alpacas. My daughter spoke up that I spin and she knits and he was all over that, that so does his wife. Having these personal connections make the teachers real to her, and I think it put NP higher on her list. Waiting on Binghamton and ESF for their decisions and then there will be a hard decision on her part.

She grabbed her envelope and dashed off to babysit her astronomy teachers 3 children (3, 7 and 9) because it’s the science dept’s holiday party tonight. She already has an A in the class so it’s not brown nosing!

D also in at New Paltz! Two more schools to hear from, but they won’t be for about a month!

Wow! Lots of news today.

OWM: Thanks for sharing your story. As you expected, it made me cry. It’s inspiring to hear about young people showing character and making the best of a tough situation.

RM: What a great day you’re having! Congrats on Michigan and Chicago. My nephew attends Chicago and loves it.

AmandaK: Congrats on Michigan. Not bad for a procrastinator without an appendix.

Bella and HollieSue: Congrats on New Paltz. I’m glad your daughters are so happy with their acceptances.

OWM - Thanks for sharing your story. What a great example of grace under pressure and unconditional love. Bless you.
Big congrats to RenMom, amanda, bella and holliesue. And RenMom: perfect timing after the unfortunate deferral, and how wonderful for your S to be able to celebrate with friends who can share the excitement. What a great start to the weekend!

congrats Renmom, amanda and bella on the acceptances!!!

So many good news! It’s hard to keep up with you guys. What will April be like?

Congratulations on Michigan, U of Chicago and New Paltz acceptances! What a great day today!

RenMom - Well, that IS a GOOD Day!!!
Bella - Congrats!!

D got another acceptance today: University of Illinois, College of Business. Had a bit of drama with the online decision. Was supposed to come out at 5:00pm but the server crashed, so we gave up trying until later in the evening. It was nice to get the news, although, it is not her 1st choice.

Congrats to all w/ acceptances & hugs to the deferrals/rejections. I need rest ;)

Bella, Renmom, holliesue and mommylaw–what fine news!!! I’m getting mixed up on who I’ve congratulated–the news is coming so quickly.

Quick U of I tale: Good friend started out at Northwestern (wasn’t a good fit) then transferred to U of I. She went on to get masters at Yale. No real point to this story. I guess it’s good to remember that not even the most enlightened student (or mom) can call the exact shots on where they’ll take root and grow. I’m happy that some of our students here are accumulating more acceptances to cushion any past or future bumps.

Congrats Mommylaw and anyone else I missed. It’s been a busy week. I guess things will quiet down for the next few weeks while colleges are on winter break.

momjr…yes things will probably be pretty quiet the next few weeks… I know January will be an anxiety provoking month as we are supposed to hear no later than the first week of February from one of D’s favorites!

Ds still has to decide about Cornell once the SATIIs come out Tuesday, app is all done practically, just need to figure if it is a reach that fits or just a reach that scares him. After the ED results thread, I am not so sure!
