Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

Amanda and Blue - So sorry for your losses. Both unexpected and heart-wrenching.

Mamom - I’m not from NYC but noticed that you’re taking your daughter to Wicked. If she’s a Wicked fanatic (like my D) you might want to try to take in “Beyond the Emerald Curtain” while you’re in the city. A backstage look at all things Wicked that is really fun.

D had two alumni interviews this weekend. As of now, she has interviewed for 8 of her 12 schools. Still waiting on one interview to be scheduled. The others don’t do interviews. Whew!

S heads off to New Zealand for study abroad on Thursday! He will be in Auckland until the end of June. Lucky kid.

Amanda - so sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I just caught up on lots of other news. Congrats to all the good news from UM and elsewhere. Hope Pepper’s son and others get well soon.

My son is also doing lots of interviews. Majority of the interviewers say that interviews have very little weight in admissions. And of course you never know how they really went. Still good experience for my som I think

AK and BlueI - I am so sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Congrats to everyone with new acceptances!

I just received news that a family member studying is Egypt is hopefully going to be evacuated tomorrow - I am keeping my fingers crossed…I find myself checking FB often hoping for a positive update from his parents.

And I just watched the news and learned that 18 more inches are on the way for Tuesday and Wednesday - that is on top of the 40+ inches sitting in my yard. Yikes!

Amanda - sorry for your loss. Hugs…

AK----thoughts and prayers are with you and for you and yours, I don’t know what else to say…such unexpected sad news…

Aniger - Our son has had several interviews as well and a couple of the interviewers told him the same thing. One interview went nearly an hour and 15 minutes which was 45 minutes longer than scheduled. S said the interview went very well and he was even asked to contact the interviewer in the future for a possible summer internship! He said they had a lot in common and he got a very nice follow up email following his thank you note.

Amanda – So sorry to hear of the loss of your dear mother.

Idnct – Saw that your mother’s memorial is soon. My condolences.

Let’s give all our mothers a moment of warm thoughts.

I’m so sorry Amanda. I hope our support provides you some comfort.

I follow this thread on and off. Just wanted to add my condolences to all of you who are mourning sudden losses. I’m sorry you are going through this, especially during an already-stressful transition year. I hope you find love and support from your friends and family.

AmandaK: I am so, so sorry for your loss. Hugs to you and your family.

Condolences to all that have lost special people lately. When it is sudden or the person is young, it makes it especially hard. I am so sorry.

Mamom- Check out Dylan’s Candy Bar. [Dylan’s Candy Bar](http://www.dylanscandybar.com/)
Was always a favorite of D’s when we went to the city and on the way to Serendipity when taking the subway (if I remember correctly you get off at the Bloomingdale stop).

amandak: we’re all thinking of you and your family. so very sorry for your loss. everyone here has been buoyed at one time or another by your good cheer. hopefully we can help you now in your time of need.

AmandaK - so sorry about your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

@mamom: If you’re staying near Times Square, you may want to try Ruby Foo. Uptown a bit is a small gem La Bonne Soupe. Some hot spots are Gramercy Tavern and anywhere in the Meat-packing district. Make sure to get to either Magnolia bakery or Crumbs. Tribeca will be great for shopping and Madison Avenue ($$$$$). You may be able to take advantage of the weather if you’re willing to stand in line at TKTS to get what will probably be great seats and discount for Broadway shows.

Amanda - Adding my condolences. I cannot imagine how difficult this is. I am so sorry.

Oh, Amanda, I am so sorry to hear your sad news. My thoughts are with you.

Amanda - sincere condolences; prayers heading your way…

mamom: my D loved Pinkberry frozen yogurt and shopping for knockoffs in Chinatown. Enjoy! Wicked is AMAZING - the five minutes right before intermission were so crazy good that I think I forgot to breathe!

Amanda, I’m so sorry. Please take all the time you need to grieve. I haven’t yet lost a parent, but a friend said that most people expect the adult child to “get over” the loss of a parent very quickly, which of course, doesn’t happen.
