Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

@madbean - congratulations to your son on the impending launch of the game!! DH has an iPad that I commander for games in the evening. This looks fun. I love that it can be two player! I’ll def pass it on to my apple loving friends.

Congrats to all of this weekend’s graduates! Amazing that we have come so far.

We’re starting to feel like vacation around here. D says it’s finally feeling real.

I just wish it felt like spring! What ridiculous weather we’ve had.

gamom, glad the graduation went off great after all!

madbean, the game looks like it makes really interesting use of the iPad.

I’m glad to see this thread slow down for the holiday weekend. I hope that means that everyone is relaxing and enjoying a break.

madbean - game looks fantastic. Not sure how many of DS’s friends have iPad tho. Is it ready for purchase. Let us know. I’ll post it to FB. You must be so proud.

Son just booked his fifth client. His business is booming in just 3 days!

Thanks everyone!

FlMathMom, I’m so impressed with your S’s entrepreneur skills. Is he getting tutoring gigs? Very cool.

S said he was going to take pictures for a job this summer that is his plan. He has had a couple of jobs over the years, but nothing steady. We will see how he does with that. He doesn’t want to work thu, fri & sat until 2 am like last summer, so he is looking for other things.
Got the vegetable garden in today, whew it was hot. One week of warm and sunny and I’m complaining.
D’s dog is a very nice dog, way better than any dogs I have had. But, I have a big, hairy but non-shedding dog already. This is a medium, long hair dog that sheds. My dyson pet vac is now broken from vacuuming all the pet hair apparently. It needs a new clutch, debating whether S can fix it from the youtube video I saw. A women did it in 9 mins. Too much for me, but S might be able to save me a hundred or so on a repair.

Madbean - very cool that your son’s game is launching! And FlMathmom - you certainly have a right to be proud of your son’s entrepenurial spirit.

SeattleMom - I wish that I could say I had been MIA because I was slowing down and relaxing this weekend. I’ve been to 5 grad parties this weekend and DD went to a bunch more without me. In between attending other kids’ parties, I am working like a mad woman to get ready for company (arriving on Friday), grad ceremony (Saturday afternoon) and DD’s party (Sunday afternoon)… in my “spare time”, I’ve been helpng DD#1 get ready to move into her first aparment for senior year - turning on utilities, buying a mattress & box springs, etc. Whew!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Memorial day tomorrow and that we all take time to remember & honor the brave men and women who serve or HAVE served our country in military service.

Congrats to all the new graduates!!

We’re still plugging along here. Son took the AP Gov final last week, has a paper due for AP English Wednesday and another project for Web Design due sometime this week. I think that means that he will just have Physics and Calc finals in a week or so. Now that the warm weather is here, all of the kids are chomping at the bit to be done!

FLMathMom, My son started his IT business last summer after not getting the job he wanted. While he would much rather work a 9-5 job doing IT work, he’s been pretty successful through word of mouth advertising, fixing, updating and teaching people. It’s funny to hear him talking to our neighbors about computers for their business, but they say he does just as good a job as their expensive old IT people. He’s also started doing video’s to DVD, which really has nothing to do with computers but is a nice little side line that doesn’t take much effort. It’s good to be able to make sweet lemonade!

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! :)

Waaaaay behind with posting, been insanely busy at work.

Congratulations to all our great new graduates!
Congrats to all of the DSs and DDs who received awards!
Boooo on the nasty racist comments!

DS busy with school till mid-June, than finals.
Awards night, prom and graduation still to come.

Happy Memorial Day!

Thank a soldier or veteran and remember those who gave their all to allow us to celebrate today and every day in this wonderful country!

As for partying–we’ve been doing a bit. Had a party Friday for DS2’s birthday. Saturday I spent the day on a cleaning party in my basement–man theres too much junk down there and my Dad will be staying down there when he comes for graduation–finished basement, but becomes the dumping ground for all my DH’s lovely “bargains”. He’s a collecter of too much stuff!

Sunday we did a neighborhood bbq. We have three HS graduates on the street and it was nice to catch up on decisions, reasons for decisions, and their excitement.

Today I take DS2 to participate in a parade. Did I ever tell you my son is a clown? Well he is! He will be with a clown group clowning around in the parade. It will be HOT, I hope his make-up doesn’t drip off of him. He’s so excited.

Fogfog–love your son’s response to the possibility of gifts. I told my DS that he will need to write thank yous for any/all gifts, and his response was “can we ask them not to give gifts”. He’d rather not have the fuss and the thank you writing!!!

Madbean–that game looks like a hit. I love that two people can play it at once. I’ll pass it on to anyone I know with an ipad.

madbean - very cool! I can’t remember - what is your S going to school for?

kathie and FLMM - I am so impressed withyour two putting themselves out there and being confident enough to start their own companies.

I am hoping to get S’s old playroom cleaned out today. Yes, he still has a playroom which he hasn’t used in years. It contains a huged train set, a couple of Playmobil castles, a fort, legos and kinects, GI Joes, etc. Of course he wants to save everything, so I need to buy some big rubbermaid containers to hold it all. Then we begin the conversion from playroom to dressing room for 11 yo D.

VaMom - gosh a clown! It must be fun, but exhausting, especially on those hot days. Picture please! I hear you on the junk, um I mean “bargains”. He is always buying stuff we don’t need. Our garage and basement are filled. Very embarassing when oil man comes to tune furnace.

Hi all - sounds like everyone is having an eventful weekend of parties and projects and proms! I need to thank you all for your very wise and sound advice and the PMs were very thoughtful and kind. Thank you for sharing your personal insights and experiences. I am taking it all in and figuring out the best approach. When my dh and I first got married we got unexpected comments from total strangers but you kind of think, ha- what stupid people there are in the world. When it is directed at your kid, that really takes it to a whole level beyond. So anyway, everyone - thank you.

Ds had his recital at Carnegie Hall yesterday. 2 hours of pianists, 2 violins and 2 alto saxes (my son being next to last to perform). During the 2 hrs, I noticed - hey everyone has their music memorized…wow, wonder if ds knows. True to form he comes out with his sheet music, looks around for a place to put it. Doesn’t find a stand, puts it down on a chair on the side and then just walks to center stage and plays beautifully. His accompianist, friend of dds. From there we went to dinner in Chinatown and walk down to WTC and back home. My feet are killing me. I am going to indulge myself by loading the audio up on shutterfly, they wouldn’t let you take pics or video (pooh!) This was “the last” performance. Not a tear, you would be impressed!

mamom: Legos. I think our son may take a tub of them to college with him. Any other moms of nerdy/geeky boys think the same thing?

About 6 six years, we had a garage sale and the boys got to keep the money from the sale of their toys. But, they kept all the Brio trains, Playschool wooden blocks, Lincoln logs, tubs of Matchbox cars, Discovery Toys classics like Marbleworks, Carnegie Museum dinosaur collection, etc. All in Rubbermaid containers in the basement.

Now, as a dad and an uncle, they LOVE to haul them out for our grandson. And that area in our family that was going to be my “reading nook” is now the “playroom” once again.

Not wishing that too soon for any of my CC friends. But keeping the classic toys turned out to be a great decision.

amandak ~ Congrats on your S’s violin performance in Carnegie!

I am not a big saver of anything, except clothes that I am apparently not going to fit into. Older kids have been allotted one small box of memorabelia, we have moved twice since they graduated. Older S does have a container of the original teenage mutant ninja turtles, wow they will come in handy some day.

Madbean, so cool! Will show DS. Your S is at USC right? Major? DS is going to be a Computer science major this fall…

AK - Glad to read the Carnegie Hall recital was wonderful. So impressive to be able to play there.

Our boys have a large box of Legos, two trains, nurf guns that are still used on a daily basis, and the Brio set. I can’t talk. I still have Luke Skywalker in original packaging and a few other goodies.

OWM, you’re right. I do hope we have a bit of a break before a wee-one plays with them, but I love hearing about yours. You are one amazing mom/grandmother!

I think I forgot to congratulate our newest grads! I hope everyone had a great time, safe celebrations in your community, and is now getting much deserved rest! Cheers!! :)

Everyone, I’m just so overwhelmed at your kind reactions to S1’s first released game. It comes out June 3 for iPad and I have discovered I have over-the-moon mom-pride about his taking his game designs to a new level and seeing how the market reacts. Not only is it a 2-player game on iPad, but it is cooperative. You don’t compete against your friend, you work together. Yes, NC Mom, S1 is at USC (soon to be joined by S2) majoring in Interactive Entertainment in the Film School.

And we’ve had some late-breaking developments with S2’s college major. He was admitted to the USC’s film school (School of Cinematic Arts) and I have been floored and grateful that his creative portfolio was honored in this way. It’s not an easy program to gain admittance and yet, S2 had also been accepted to the School of Theatre BFA in Design. He was very excited about the BFA and was on the verge of turning down the SCA. However… (OY!) S2 has been offered a talent scholarship to the film school (SCA) and it was recently RAISED (!) that he’d have to give up to do the theatre BFA. So… S2 has decided to stay in SCA (I say YAY), double major with the SoT (which means, alas, a BA rather than BFA) and try this all on for freshman year to see what he really really REALLY should be majoring in before turning down any more $$.

This… has… been… exhausting. I am sure this is the smartest choice, but it’s hard to see him give up the dream of the BFA.

When this turns out to be the perfect choice sometime in the future, please dear friends of CC remind me of all the angst I was in this past year. :)

You are all so wonderful to let me come here and unload!!!
