EB you are way too funny!! :)

You are a busy girl! I need to find the ‘new normal’ as they say. Bluejrjr just got back from the beach this evening. It should help put me back in ‘mom-mode’ and curb my rebellious side. ;)

BI, I can waste time with the best of them. :)

Stick around with me and you’ll be doing cartwheels in the parking lot after Bluejrjr’s launch, too!

Speaking of sick boys, my boy has a cold too. He wanted me to send him a box of tissues! I told him the cost of shipping would be double the cost of the tissues and to walk to the bookstore. Surely they would have tissues. Turns out all they have are little pocket packs, and he’s been buying three a day. So, tonight I turned to google and located two little grocery stores within five blocks. Time for a longer walk!

^ Awww, kathie!! I can’t believe the bookstore didn’t have an actual box of tissues! I hope he feels better soon!

Too funny Kathie!!

With smart phones and these kids being tech savvy and freshman counselors and RAs…you would think they could find a drug store or grocery store nearby…

Guess the young men become little boys when not feeling well…
kind of explains our husbands doesn’t it! :D

Blue–hope you know I am playing with you…
We are all here in the same boat so to speak…
…so good that we can talk eachother down and tell each other when to reign in our motherly instincts :D

Just “talked” via FB messaging with elder kiddo who was ordering books online–
and I was asking about how things are…
I had noted the time stamp on a FB post–1am–
All I said was “are you getting enough sleep”…

Classes started today…

I am not pleased that their room is “great” because the roommate’s parents shipped the xbox…and he bought a 32 inch flat screen…
Yet both are going to have heavy schedules so I am hoping that the gaming is not a regular thing

S called and told us he got the WS job he wanted in the business office. He will be the receptionist from 7:45 to 9:00am 4 days a week. haha. He was pretty cocky about not having to get up til 9am MWF and 10:30 on TTH. He said he almost fell off his chair when the women who hired him told him his hours. He is hoping that he will be able to switch at some point in time and maybe pick up a few more hours.

Had a FB chat with our D tonight, too. She enjoyed her classes today, didn’t elaborate. Doesn’t have class until noon tomorrow.

She told us her cell phone is acting weird. Already starting the “she can deal with it” mantra. We even located the service store near to her while we were there. She can go on the weekend.

Best wishes to the sick boys! Such a common thing when they get thrown together like this. I am realizing I put together a nice meds package but no tissues. I’ll suggest she get a box when she does her errands. Easier to do when feeling well!

Asked her if people are talking about what they’re doing this weekend. “Lots are going home.” Well, at least two of her buddies are from CA, so I know she’ll have people around. And she already has friends who want to go see Follies with her (the show we missed when they shut down Broadway Saturday).

My D texted the other day and said she had had an audtion for the choir (that I didn’t know about until after the fact) and that she had made it. She was SO happy! According to the website it is only 50-60 voices strong. She is a walk on freshman science major, so they weren’t doing any favors like they might for an upperclassman music major.

She is very musical and felt that her talents were not recognized by the high school teachers, when in reality the high school teachers had an over abundance of talent and couldn’t recognize all of it adequately.

Anyway, the choir is going to sing the Messiah later this semester and D is in 7th heaven.

for bajamm’s D: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! :)

So proud of our kids taking hold of the reins of independence and figuring out how to deal wilth their issues without us. We must have done a good job preparing them. Hugs to moms of sick kids. The first illness is the hardest for us. Kudos to those getting jobs, going on auditions and just trying new things.

I’ve been waving to all of you as we drive south. We’ere headed for Asheville today after staying in Roanoke overnight . We traveled thru Shenandoah valley. Just beautiful.

FlMathmom - Nice drive! It must be beautiful this time of year, enjoy!!
Bajamm - I echo the Hallelujah!

Not that I am stalking ds or anything but it is interesting to see the activities he’s “attending” on FB - something about karaoke in the laundry room, glow-in-the-dark games and bingo night. He’s signed up to tutor immigrants, learn parkour and get outdoors with a club. Beats me how there was also time to see his advisor and change his recitations to someone familiar with english, but he did it.

fogfog - I don’t think ds has had much action on the xbox but it was an ice breaker with the suitemates and a way for him to connect to his buds scattered across the country. Again, not that I’m stalking, but his best friend keeps trying to schedule some xbox so they can hang out virtually.

The last new student move-ins are the University of Oregon and the University of Southern Oregon on September 22nd
Move-in day in 21 days. Just 3 weeks to go for the final move-ins. Its coming quickly.

The link to the Move-in Date Thread is http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1141579-hs-class-2011-college-class-2015-move-dates-5.html

If you son’s or daughter’s move-in dates and schools are not listed please add them to the list.**

We talked to D last night (she said she would call…and she did…at 11:45 pm.) She sounded happy.

YAY!!! So happy for you, missy.

Good luck to everyone on their moves. We really will celebrate here in a couple of weeks!!

bajamm, congratulations to your daughter! I’m crossing my fingers that DS keeps music in his life when he gets to college–he is taking his clarinet with him and there will be plenty of opportunities to play…if he’ll seek them out.

My H sings professionally and my other two kids are major choir kids. At D’s freshman orientation, I found my self taking a flyer about choir auditions, even though D isn’t interested.

When our phone call was about ready to wrap up, D said she did have one problem. It seems that the towels and wash cloths never dry. Actually, it makes perfect sense. Each side of the suite keeps their door closed…it only opens when someone enters and exits. I guess the moisture just never escapes. I left all kinds of Command hooks wtih her, so she can leave her wet towel in her room, but it’s an interesting issue…how do you ever ventilate the shared bathroom if the suitemates have agreed to keep the doors closed? I think they need a Plan B.

D1 is moving in on Saturday - she is having an awful time leaving our puppy…I don’t think she has let him out of her site for the last week.

She told us her cell phone is acting weird. Already starting the “she can deal with it” mantra. We even located the service store near to her while we were there. She can go on the weekend.

Hi. I LIVE on Long Island and wanted to tell that my cell phone is acting a little frinky too but I am pretty sure it is due to the after-effects of the hurricane and the power outages that are still all over. My block is relatively untouched but a block away neighbors are starting their 4th full day without power.

Service has improved a lot since Sunday but texting still seems to be delayed and am still having trouble transmitting photos. I have AT&T, BTW.

Momofboston - Maybe you need to start a FB persona for puppy like the sensation that is Boo -

It’s really nice to be home after 1200 miles and 2 college drop offs in the past 3 days. FLMM, I thought about your trip while we were driving and figured ours was nothing.
We took D1 back to Penn yesterday for the beginning of her senior year. It seems like we just moved her into her freshman dorm.

D2 called last night. She’s enjoying the community service program. Yesterday they painted a mural over graffiti near an elementary school.

I hope the sick boys recover quickly. It’s really tough on a mom to have a sick kid you can’t take care of.

MOB: My D was very sad to leave our dog also.

Emmy: I’m glad that your D’s move-in worked out despite the storm.

EmilyB: Thanks for being honest about the upside of being an empty nester. Things have been so hectic around here the past few weeks that my H and I are ready for the calm. I am getting tired of people asking me “How are you doing?” I miss my daughters, but I’m thrilled that they are both out in the world growing up and managing on their own.
