Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - We're awesome!

Evidentially some issue with the server. A glitch according to apple. Super. It stopped at 50k. We held our breath and hit ‘get mail’ only to have 5k more show up. We’re waiting on a call back but think the next step is to delete accounts and reinstall (which means I have to transfer anything I don’t want to lose to a folder first, as I’ll start with no history). Ugghh!!!

Computers are the devil’s work. ;)

Yay for almost happy daughter, Kinder!

Agreed Emily! I guess it’s one way to purge annoying email hanging on from high school!! Maybe that’s what you need to do kinder, just gut your account, lol :D

arisamp, this is my S 3rd week he was on party mode and just getting to meet other students socially. But for an engineering student this is not good. He finally called us this past Sunday and told us it was time to get seriuos with his studies. Now I am afraid this is all he is doing. He even forgot to pick up his football ticket, which he will do tomorrow.

Our kids have to find the happy median between social life and studies. My wife and I decided to let him figure it out on his own. Not to offer advice unless he asks us.

It it so hard not to just tell him what to do, when to do it and how to do it. To me this has been the toughest adjustment. Thank goodness my wife is the tough one so she is always here to stop me from opening my big mouth.

Good luck to everyone and thank goodness for this site.

BI, are you using MobileMe? I’ve found that if you set that up improperly, contacts multiply. I just stopped using it on my wife’s computer.

gator4ever, sometimes I use questions to help a kid focus on the key decision. My asking the question suggests how I’m thinking about things (which won’t surprise them) but I don’t tell him/her what to do.

BI: So sorry for the e-mail snafu! Aren’t these computers supposed to make our lives easier? Ugh!

kinderny: Hooray for the “almost happy” daughter! She’s settling in – that’s great!

Gator: It’s so hard when we just want to tell them what to do! I keep biting my tongue.

@ shawdad - thanks for the tip. Yes, we also found MobileMe to be a huge pita to reconfigure initially when I switched from PC to mac with duplicated contacts and calendar events. We got that fixed somehow at the genius bar. It’s fine now. This is a different animal. I’ve found apple phone support to be less then genius, while they are pretty good in the store.

Pepper

And the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down
So Piglet started bailing.
He was unaware, atop his chair,
While bailing he was sailing!

Housatonic and area rivers 2 ft over flood stage this am…

yikes!

shawbridge excellent advice thanks

Remember how we were saying Facebook gave way too much information on our kids…this morning I see a post from Bluejr’s friend where he’s tagged. “scetchy part of town with Bluejr and RandomFriend” time stamp 1am…‘somewhere near CollegeTown’. Excellent… :o I don’t really want to ask him where the heck he was at 1am, if there was a problem I’d know about it by now. These kids are from the 'burbs for the most part so sketchy can mean a lot of things. Just not good as college kids get targeted at night in certain areas. Good thing I didn’t see it last night. I’d have been tempted to text him and tell him to get back to a safe radius of first year housing!!! Teasing, teasing!! (don’t want to be put back on restriction).

Oy, some things we are better off NOT knowing.

@blueiguana - Yikes! Almost makes me glad my kid doesn’t do facebook!

GeekSon is doing well, says he’s actually ahead on homework (I have my reservations), and making friends but no great friends yet. He’s actually more chatty than most boys, so I’m pretty happy. :)

I forgot how to quote :frowning: but funny story about kids “not doing facebook” - my friend and I talked about whether we were letting our HS frosh have a facebook (this was 4 yrs ago) and she went on a soapbox about how it wasn’t a good idea and how she was not allowing her dd to have one. Few weeks later she calls me to tell me how actually dd had one under an alias - posing as a 19 yr old bombshell from Sicily. Just saying.

That’s hysterical Amanda! (because it’s not my kid, lol). Yes, sometimes the devil we know is better than the devil we don’t (not that our kids are devils). Okay, I’m stopping before I dig too deep of a hole!!

**The next new student move-in is Northwestern University move-in on September 12th - Just 4 days to go!
Move-in day is in 4 days!
Labor Day is past. Hurricane season is in full bloom. Where has the summer gone?

[ul][]Dartmouth College move-in on September 14th is just 6 days to go.
[]University of Chicago move-in on September 18th is just 10 days to go.
[]Stanford University move-in on September 20th is just 12 days to go.
[]The last new student move-ins are the University of Oregon and the University of Southern Oregon on September 22nd which is 14 days to go.

The LAST Move-in day is in 14 days. Just 2 weeks to go. The launching season is nearly complete.[/ul]

The link to the Move-in Date Thread is http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1141579-hs-class-2011-college-class-2015-move-dates-5.html

If you son’s or daughter’s move-in dates and schools are not listed please add them to the list.**

College move-in countdowns will be completed on September 22nd based on our current list. I will crank up the turkey drumstick countdown on October 1st. I will use Wednesday, November 23rd as the target date although I realized that the TG breaks vary all over the board and many kids may get home before the 23rd but that seems to be the most logical day.

I will not be counting down for parent weekends as those dates are all over the calendar.

For those of us with younger kids that are in the HS Class of 2014, only 935 days until the 2014 SS Indecision sets sail on April 1st 2014!   :)

Keep the faith fogfog!

I actually saw a glimpse of sun-and I am at least in southern NE so I am somewhat in the neighborhood.

The flooding though is getting worse it’s true-but I think tomorrow will be a better day. :)

Amanda, boychild did the same thing with My Space when he was in middle school. The only difference was my DH let him while I was out of town. Naturally, he didn’t bother monitoring it.

The girls all said they were from 21 and from Laguna Beach and the boys bragged about having sex. I know there are kids that young that do but this was all bravado.

One I saw it, that was the end of that and DH got an earful from me.

Pepper, I had to wear my sunnies driving home from my game. Didn’t last long.

Anyone here from Hollie? I pm’d her last night but haven’t heard back. Her area is getting really hard hit.

DH didn’t get home until 2:30 last night and the note on the counter this morning had “4:20 got called back in.” He is in good company today as our KinderNY is in the bunker, too!

My friend was just so shocked that her little girl had become a devious teen overnight! It was her brother that found her online - and the pic was one of those closeups, heavy makeup - you wouldn’t have been able to tell it wasn’t some italian model.

I posted on college search looking to build my dd1s college list - if anyone remembers stories about my “special” dd1 and has a recommendation, let me know. Thanks!

^ Do people not have memories of what they were like at that age?!?

Pleasantly surprised by a call from boychild. He sounded great and very upbeat. Has had all his classes and like them all, ditto for the Professors.

Says he is eating too much (the food is great) so I told him to try to get some runs in. Thats when he told me he stepped in poo during AESOP so threw his running shoes away so has to order a new pair.

Going to his first sailing practice later today so at least he’ll be getting some strenuous activity to work off some calories.

Amanda, re you DD1 - she might want to look at Rochester.
