D1’s school sent the parents an email asking us to ask our children to go get a flu shot. Shortly thereafter, I got a text from D1 mentioning that she just scheduled a flu shot. Without me mentioning it. The school must have also been pushing on the students to get shots. Very nice to see that they attack the problem from both ends; nice to see when the students manage things on their own. Well, aside from rebates. ;)

Other things to do before Thanksgiving: clear D2’s overflow mess out of D1’s bedroom. :D

Due to her lung issues, D has been required by her doctor to get flu shots every year for years. This is the first year she has been 18 and old enough that I can’t make her. Starting about Sept. 15 I texted her every day asking if she’s had the shot yet, until she told me to stop and I told her no, I would only stop once she’d had the shot.

The next day there was a $15 charge from the student health clinic on her college bill and a text from her saying she’d had the shot and I was going to have to pay for it.

RE Flu shots. D’s school offers them for $5 at the student health center. I told her 2 weeks ago to grab her roommates and go get the shot. She told me her roommates weren’t interested. Last week I nagged for several days about her getting the shot. No shot. Today she sent me a message that she had made an appt for her flu shot! Yay! No let’s hope she actually keeps the appt.

Parents week end at her school but we’re just going down on Sunday. She was home the last 2 weekends for her 5 day fall break and then her old hs homecoming so that makes this a little anti climatic. But we’re bringing Grandma who hasn’t seen the school yet so that will be fun

Been a few days and boy, you all have been chatty! Hair of all things, being the primary topic! Who would have thought!

Has been a tough week thus far. Took S in for what I thought was a routine doctor’s appt and we’ve now been through a barrage of tests and looking at more next week. Has an appointment at Children’s Hospital. A little bizarre the way things are enfolding…crossing my fingers and hoping for the best next week (although my best guess is that we’ll still be looking for answers!). After what seems like a long time, S took center stage this week! To add to this, my mom’s not doing too well either with a flare up and complications from rheumatoid arthritis!

D is doing good - she has a fall break this weekend and is headed to Pittsburgh to meet friends. Very much looking forward to the break and she called me a few hours ago, incredibly excited that one more of her friends was also making the trek to Pittsburgh at the same time. She had midterm exams this week and she did very well on one, thinks she did well on the other, but will have to wait and see. She also got a rave review from her coach, so she was on cloud nine this afternoon when we spoke!

No flu shot for D - no idea if she’s going to take one. We might be the outliers on this one, but we haven’t taken flu shots each year. The one year I did take the shot was when I was pregnant with S and promptly got the flu :(

All I can say is I’m glad I didn’t bother going on a special shopping trip for boychild’s homecoming. Except for the night we got home and I ordered Chinese he hasn’t had dinner home once. Out with a friend one night, worked another night and came home just wanting eggs and tonight a friend is in her high school concert and he left to see her and then they’ll go out after. Tomorrow night we’ll go out to dinner and he has to leave first thing Sunday morning.

I told BC to make sure he gets a flu shot as soon as he gets back to school. I got the eye roll. Sigh.

I always get a flu shot but DH is stubborn. Some day this is going to come back and bite him.

Got my flu shot on Tuesday, emailed DS and said, "You do not have any known severe allergies; you have no known allergy to egg or latex or any vaccine component. You have never had Guillain-Barr

I forgot to mention that I had my flu shot early in October. My employer rents space to a locally owned pharmacy and we get free flu shots there. There was no excuse to not get one, no cost involved in either money or time stopping somewhere on the way home from work. I just popped over during a work day one day.

Did everyone’s D or S have a fall break? Neither D1 or D2’s schools have them and I hadn’t given it much thought until reading about all of you and your kids’ plans for break. So glad DD2 has been a couple of times but it would have been nice to have her here for longer than 36 hours.

Arisamp - sending good thoughts for your S and your mom!

I had my flu shot at work (I work for a large corporation and we get them free @ our health center) and DD2 had the flu mist before she left for school. DH and DD1 don’t ever want to take the shot so I’ve given up fighting them on it.

Big believers in flu shot. Tried to bring son during FW but ran out of time. If he doesn’t go on his own during next month, we’ll take him during T’giving.

No Fall break at DS school.

It is so beautiful down here. High heat and humidity gone. Wow!

D’s school offered flu shots on the last day of finals. She sent me an email before to let me know, since I had been asking her about it. She called after her last final , and I asked about the flu shot. Oops! She forgot to get one, since was preoccupied with finals… She came home for a day during her break to get one at her doctor’s office.

No fall break at our school but they get the whole week off at Thanksgiving. Apparently next year they will get both.

As to flu shots, my children and I have never gotten them but my husband gets them from work every year. He gets the flu every year and we have never had the flu, go figure…Of course now we will get the flu because I just jinxed us! Knock wood and all that stuff.
Off to more reunion fun…football and tailgater! It better be good, cost 100 dollars per person!

Its straight and in high school is was Beatles length. Today, much shorter with much more gray but I still have 95% of it. Most people who don’t know me guess my age at least 5 to 10 years younger due to my hair! LOL  :D

hey, this is a quiet bunch. everyone must be at family weekends or something… My h went to Tulane this weekend to see d for family weekend. I stayed home to save my vacation time so I can go to her rowing meet in November and choir concert in December.

So, S’16 and I are having a quiet weekend at home, he ran in the Komen race for the cure 5K race this am and now is mowing/mulching the leaves and I am talking with you!

For the first time, Awesome Parents of the Class of 2015 is not on page 1! I personally (see screen name) feel eviscerated. So thus, I post:

Has anyone seen (or been dragged to see) The Skin I Live In? I think the movie going world is generally separated into 2 camps – Almodovar fan; not. It’s like you’re either a “save it to your desktop” kind of person or “I’ll create a quirky name for this file” which I will promptly forget once I hit “save”.

So anyway – not my favorite film. Actually felt nauseous at one point (perhaps because I have a son). So if someone says, “You wanna see the new Almodovar movie?” here is what you say right back:

Sorry – got to post on College Confidential – awesome parents need me
Is that the one with Ryan Gosling?
Can’t miss the game – sorry

Let me add to the thread. Heard from ShawD today. Still happy. In the middle of mid-terms/tests. Sounds like there is a little tension between her and roomie, but she clearly didn’t want to talk about it. I know that of my three freshman roommates, the anal compulsive one developed a clear dislike for me (that’s probably mild). In part, I think it was because I was messy (still am, but was a lot worse then). In part, it was because he was an insecure former HS valedictorian and I was doing much better than him (or the other roommates). ShawD is also not neat and is pretty bright and will perform well given her course selection if she figures out how to get untracked.

since you all have been through the app process already i figured id ask you. im applying to a couple of small LACs with rolling admission. they have around a 70% acceptance rate. if i have everything in this week, do i have any chance? basically am i applying way too late?
