Burke, That was great thanks for sharing. I laughed out loud and then shared with a few friends! I think if that if I received a letter like that I would do the exact opposite, hate over controlling people!

Anial- Phew, I was thinking you were wonder woman having 46 people for Divali. But 46 is quite young if I do say so myself! :)

Ohiomom, Hooray for the neat room, who cares what motivated him as long as he keeps it up! Maybe his parents are coming to visit (?), but the girlfriend theory is a good one as well.

Kinderny, glad to hear mom’s heart is nothing serious. Hope the rest of the issues get resolved.

Went to Trader Joe’s today…hungry…never a good idea! Came home with 3 boxes of Candy Cane Joe Joe’s and a huge tub of English Toffee. Love that store though, they have lots of ready made stuff for Thanksgiving. I like to cook all the main stuff myself but they have a cranberry covered goat cheese that looked great and some other hor’dervey (can’t spell!) stuff that looks amazing. I plan on getting some for Thanksgiving. I am sure I am way behind the curve on the Trader Joe’s but I was quite excited! (It doesn’t take much!)
Also, they are opening up a Wegman’s around here, had never heard of one, I had to google it after it kept getting mentioned on this post. That also sounds like a great store as well!

Would it be bad if I mentioned that I live less than a mile from our local Wegmans? I do love it. They are a great employer as well. My oldest has worked there over three years. The prepared and specialty items are pricy but their staples and store brand items are less than our other local stores.

EAO, your’re going to love Wegman’s. BI, I’m very jealous. Our closest one is 45 mintues away, but they’re building one must closer that will open next fall.

Mnmom: Your D will love the edible arrangement. D1 sent one to D2 for her birthday, and it was a big hit. I may send them to my girls during finals.

Speaking of jobs, I just laid down the law for D – I need you to make money this summer. To her credit, she asked me about getting paid internships, but she also said “maybe I’ll go abroad this summer”.

Hey – I’d like to do that too! Maybe I should put out a virtual paper cup on CC – send this working mom to Europe! I could take money via PayPal!

Long time, no posts from me. So it took me a bit of a while to catch up.

D had a longer break from coming home from Labor Day until OCt. 21st for a cardiologist appt. Then the next weekend was fall break. Last weekend was the big game (she went and actually liked it versus the first game she saw. THat was because she was sitting in a different section and hardly any drunks there). She is coming home again tomorrow evening after an appointment with a faculty member with whom she may be doing research next semester. This time, I asked her to come home if she wanted since I need yard work done and her younger sister was camping both of the two first weekends in Nov. I pay well for leaf removal and she needs the money for Christmas and birthday presents (three bdays in Dec. and Jan).

She is doing very well in school. Can’t ask for anything more. Her suitemate hardly ever says a word to her but she has gotten used to that and simply thinks of the suite as her own apartment since suitemate never uses the common area. She has made a few friends. She hasn’t had issues with others drinking. Her latest query was funny to us- why are so many guys talking to her, she asked. It seems she figured that the guys would be more interested in the girls with make-up and actively flirting. Of course, she ignores the fact that she is really pretty, slim, shapely, and intelligent.

She may be inviting a friend home for Thanksgiving and of course, I said, that would be fine. She has registered for Spring semester but doesn’t yet know whether she will get housing next year.

LOVE Wegmans too! (although not always their prices!). Great selection, fresh fruit and veggies.
Class of 2015-had to laugh at your suggestion. We are really pressing our D to get a job this summer too…she would rather go on a study abroad program. Well so would I!!! OY!!

I leave tomorrow to head towards New Orleans to see my d. It is 15+ hours of driving, plus stop time. The three hour mark of driving puts me at my parents house, so I am going there tomorrow, then putting my dad in the car on Friday and he is going the rest of the way with me. We’ll see the regatta, visit, eat, sleep, and head back sometime Sunday because I have to work on Tuesday.

It’ll be a quick trip and hopefully a good one!

MilitaryMom - So, so great to hear from you!! Thanks for checking in. Glad to hear DD is doing well. They don’t always have to be BFFs with their roommates, but a peaceful existence is nice. Looks like she has found the latter. Enjoy your visit with her this weekend!! :)

bajamm - Have a safe trip!! I’m glad your dad will be able to make part of the trip with you. Enjoy the regatta! What fun. :)

Tomorrow I take Bluejrjr to have his wisdom teeth out. Bluejr has requested video of anything silly when he ‘comes to’ from the anesthesia. Brotherly love I’m not nearly as stressed for him as I was about the older two. It must be the ‘third child factor’.

My daughter has also worked as a cashier at Wegmans, two years now. They are great! They gave her a $1,500 scholarship, renewable every year, as long as she puts in a certain number of hours, which means, they will always put her on the schedule whenever she asks. She put in for 3 days over Thanksgiving and is planning to work a lot over the winter break, less hours to worry about over next summer.

Ohiomom, I wish my D’s roommates would one day decide to just clean up!

I have been cooking Thanksgiving almost every year since I got married 26 years ago. We just have my husband’s mother and brother, sister in law and their two kids. Sometimes my nephew and his wife and two kids, so it’s a maximum of 14. My sister in law will bring all the desserts. Everyone helps bring stuff to the table, and clears. Hubby will load the dishes into the dishwasher, usually we take a break before dessert to clean up. It’s usually not too bad.
I don’t ask for help cooking, I like to do it during the day, and have most things done before company arrives.

Nice to hear from new posters and old regulars that have been busy!

Kinder and Amanda - Good thoughts on your parents and may they stay/continue on the path to good health. I visited my folks over the weekend and they were embarrassingly appreciative of my small efforts. Wish I lived closer.

Another Wegmans fan here. We lived in upstate New York a lifetime ago and I liked them right away. I’m happy that we have them here in PA now.

Tomorrow my son and I are going into NYC to watch the Daily show. My SIL will join us there. The guest is Adam Sandler. Wouldn’t you know, earlier in the week Bill Clinton and Clint Eastwood were on, and we get Adam Sandler! Oh, well, I know it will be fun anyway.

We really need to think of a North east area/NYC meet up. Maybe in March??

^so excited for you. I have tried and tried to get tickets to see The Daily Show or Colbert but never get past the initial posting that says tickets are sold out!

Love the Daily Show and would go no matter who was on it, what a great thing to do with your son! How do you get tickets? Just go online.

So continuing on my eating tour of my hometown, I ventured over to Sam’s club (still had not eaten) and proceeded to eat my way around the store, they were going crazy with the samples. Their pumpkin pie is Amazing and costs about 7 dollars so I bought one (of course I did) brought it home and family gave it rave reviews. Taking a cue from Burke’s Thanksgiving letter, I then proceeded to call my mom and “instruct her” to forgoe making her own pumpkin pie this year but to buy it at Sam’s! I will still make my Pecan Pie because it is amazing…make it with Brown Sugar rather than white!

cgpm59 Appetizers, thanks knew it was something like that!!!

Headed out today to visit this Garden Shop place (huge out in the country)that does an amazing job at decorating for Christmas, they also have llamas, hayrides, cider and food (yes more food). Going with my sister in law then to lunch, but planning on eating a good breakfast so I don’t gorge on samples and come home with more fattening food again. I call this season “eating season” and I need to pace myself!

No news from the College kids, need to touch base today. Hope everyone has a great day!

college4three, Getting tickets for the Daily show has been sheer good timing on my part. I just go to the tickets page [The Daily Show with Jon Stewart | Reserve Tickets | The Daily Show Biography | The Daily Show](<a href=“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah - TV Series | Comedy Central US”>The Daily Show with Trevor Noah - TV Series | Comedy Central US) and there have been dates available. Without waiting to see if anyone else is able to join me, I just pick a date that is good for me and grab them. This is my third time seeing him within the last couple of years. My oldest son (without mentioning it to me) was able to nab four more for next week. My freshman college son would love to go, but so far, I haven’t been able to get them on dates he is available since he’s been 18. That e-mail notification has not worked for me. I was NOT sent an e-mail when they had tickets on the site.

MM: Welcome back. I’m glad to hear that DD is doing well.

Bajamm: Have a great trip. At least you don’t have to make that long drive alone. I’m sure that it will be worth it.

BI: I hope Bluejrjr has an easy time.

Kath: Enjoy the show!

EAO: This is definetly the seaon of eating. it starts with the girl scout cookies, then Halloween candy, and right on into Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah.
