Just checking in quickly to say that DD1 and her BF and I picked up DD2 at the airport and we are all HOME. Lots of catching up to do as well as T-giving preparations so will sign off now. I hope everyone has a truly happy Thanksgiving!

Please tell me that I’m not the only parent who was a wee bit worried to have their offspring, who hadn’t driven for 3 months, drive somewhere. Though all went well in the end.

Awaiting DS arrival. He’s taking the train and should be home around 6pm.
I’ve baked 2 pies (apple & pumpkin) made sweet potato casserole, chopped veggies for stuffing (I stuff bird too and we have never gotten sick, so I ignore those that say not too stuff). Cut veggies for veggie platter and made cranberries so I’ve been busy, but will make tomorrow much more relaxing. I’m having 15 people total, so it will be fun.

Is it time for wine yet?

Slitheytove- I too was nervous last night to have my d drive! It was a wet, rainy, foggy evening and she was out of practice. However, she got home safely :)

I am at work and will be here until 9. When I’m done I have to go to the grocery store and pick up stuff that I didn’t get at B. J.'s this morning and then make two apple pies. (Thank you TJ’s for making the very best pie crust) Just found out that my Brother and Sister in law and family may stop in tomorrow morning before we all drive to other SIL’s house. I was kind of counting on those couple of hours to finish cleaning and make veggie dish! Tomorrow night both sets of Grandparents will stay at our house. I am counting on the boys to have their rooms cleaned up (or stuff tucked away) enough.

I’m hoping Christmas break will be a bit less stressful. I have to keep reminding myself that I LIKE this holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone - I am very thankful to have D1 home, the first thing I did was take her to the doctor. She now has meds and should be feeling better by tomorrow…she slept a good 15 hours last night. I am having 22 tomorrow and I have been cooking all day…I love it! I really do love a full house. All I have left to do is brine the turkeys (2), cut the fruit for the fruit cup, and set up a beverage table with the coffee urn…oh, and then have that virtual glass of wine with VAmom2015!

I was going to countdown to Black Friday sales but since it is only 2 days I will just post today as tomorrow is a holiday. :D

Nuff said. Enjoy the holiday and best wishes to the brave shoppers out there. :)

ST and Hollie: I always worry about the girls driving after being away also. D1 did have a mishap after vacation several years ago, so it’s not crazy.

Glad to hear that most of our kids have made it home safely.

I started cooking today, but will do most of it tomorrow. We’re eating earlier than usual to accomodate those heading to tomorrow night’s football game. I’ll be up early to stuff the turkey and get it into the oven. Vamom, I’m with you. Never had a problem with putting stuffing in the turkey.

We haven’t seen much of D2, but I booked her for a dinner out with her cousins tonight.

After just hearing on the news that tonight is apparent the most dangerous night of the year for drivers ( more than NYEve etc) we officially told D2 to sleep at her friend’s house and come home for breakfast…

oy Rodney…hadn’t heard that. D is out getting a hair cut, then shopping, then a late movie…now I won’t sleep until she is safely home…(this I don’t miss when she is off at school!)

D landed in KC about 1 pm. H and S drove the 3 hours there to get her. I was all prepared to be home from work before they got home. A meltdown by a boss at work and a long line at the pie bakery, and I arrived home as D was pulling out to go see her BF. sigh.

BF didn’t know she was coming home for the weekend, so hopefully he was pleasantly surprised. His mom and sister did know, so hopefully there were no other GF’s around.

So nice to read about all the safe arrivals and happy reunions!
Wow! Is my S the last one to get home? He is scheduled to arrive at 7:45 tonight. All his classes were canceled today and the charter bus only had one holiday run this afternoon. Poor guy
…We are bad parents. He is only three and half hours away and we did not feel like to drive down to retrieve him. His phone is not working right so he wants to go to Verizon store as soon as he arrives before it closes at 8:00.

I have made cranberry relishes, sweet potatoes, and baked an apple pie. Turkey, dressing and asparagus will be prepared tomorrow. I am looking forward to watching footballs games with my boys and the big meal tomorrow. It’s only going to be four of us plus my MIL. My SIL (45 minutes away)does not want to join us because she dose not want to see her mom as usual.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Actually I think mine is the last to get home. His plane from Cali lands at 815 pm Texas time. And I’m so excited, 3 months is too long to go without seeing your one and only. ;-)

I’ve made apple pie. Cranberry sauce. Baked the cornbread and crumbled for the stuffing. Set the table. All else happens to tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Enjoy your homecomings!

We picked up D1 last night. The drive to he school usually takes me 45 minutes from work, but it took over 1.5 hours last night. I was also worried about her driving today, so I drove her to a doctor’s appointment, since the weather was pretty nasty. She was a great help grocery shopping with me after the appointment. She made the pumpkin cheesecake, although we didn’t realize that she had picked up a can of squash instead of pumpkin. We added a bit more spices, and are hoping that no one notices.

H, D1, and D2 are currently watching TV and just relaxing with our new kitties. D1 does have some work that she needs to do for school this weekend. She also wants me to help her make a scrapbook page for her new member album for her sorority. She also picked up a few names from a hoiliday giving tree at school for local children, so we will brave the crowds on Friday to get some presents.

She seems happy to be in her own room and away from her room mates this weekend. She said “I am just trying to make it through the year.” The roommates are not horrible, but they are all so different.

Enjoy the weekend with your kids. It will be Winter break before you know it.

BI, I will PM you the soup recipe after the hols and BC is back at school. Mine has curry in it so if you don’t like that let me know and I won’t bother.

Done with all the cooking I planned for today and DH is marinating 4 different types of squash to grill tomorrow. Table is all set, too, so all I have to do tomorrow is cut up some carrots & celery to put out with the rest of the hors d’oeuvres and remember to pop the rolls in the oven right before we sit down. I forget every year so I’ve made a note - now if I only remember to look at it! DH & BC are doing our towns Turkey Trot in the morning so I’ll go around with the swiffer while they’re gone but that is all the cleaning I am doing.

Didn’t know that about it being a dangerous night to drive. BC is at work until 10 so he has no choice. He also did a lot of driving at school to the sailing regattas so at least his skills are still in tip top form.

Fog, can I send BC to your house next break? Since he’s been home we’ve had Subway, steak on the grill, on your own night, nothing (I’m at Yoga from 7:00-9:00 and BC went out with friends to a movie,) take-out chinese and tonight will be another on your own - either left overs or a sandwich. And I’m afraid we’ll be having T’day leftovers for the rest of the time he’s home.

emilybee- I’m with you on the food. Had take out Chinese last night as I was too tired to cook after driving 8 hours. Today my d was running around at dinner time and I expected that she was out for the night. Unexpectedly came home for an hour before heading out again. I had a pb sandwich for dinner (DH was working) so nothing was prepared for dinner. She didn’t like anything I suggested and ate…drumroll…goldfish for dinner. I think I am out of the running for mother of the year :)

DH and DS finally walked in the door around 6 this evening. I’m amazed at how full my heart suddenly feels to see and hear him again!

Happy Thanksgiving, CC moms and dads!

Happy Thanksgiving to all

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your family during this wonderful season. We all have so much to be thankful for.

Our beautiful children are having a great time at the colleges we have all spent so much time ensuring that they went to a college that was a “fit”. Many people tease me on how much work I put into the college process, but I am so grateful this week as I watch my son. He is happy and so is Mom.

Again, everyone have a wonderful weekend with your family!

Well said, lacrossemom. It makes me very happy to see how much my D is thriving at college. Most of her friends attend the state flagship, but she has no regrets that she chose to spread her wings.

I love Thanksgiving. It’s so nice to have a day when we stop to count our blessings. Not to mention the 3 F’s - Family, Football and Food.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.
