fogfog, terrific that kiddo2’s problem seems to have been solved. We had many visits to the hospital for ShawD and I have since donated money every year to the hospital to support the research of the doctor who figured out what was wrong and suggested, with my help, the solution. I have been getting letters from the new Director of Development, hoping to hit me up for more money. I might do it, if they hire ShawD when she graduates from nursing school. Then, I’ll really be grateful (although I doubt she’ll have that much difficulty getting a job with a degree as a nurse practitioner).

Bless your heart Shaw, it’s wonderful when those that have can give back to causes they feel personally attached. Wouldn’t be surprised if they snap up ShawD as soon as they can! Nurses are one of the least appreciated and most difficult professions - it really is a noble calling.

Fogfog - So glad to hear kiddo2 is home and I hope the Dr. is right on with the diagnosis. Enjoy your gimlet and a nice bed! (I’ve slept on those window seats and it’s awful)

Samuck - I liked the auto-correct, gave me a laugh that morning!

Fogfog: I’m so glad to hear that kiddo2 is home and that it doesn’t look very serious. Enjoy sleeping in your own bed tonight.

Samuck: Enjoy your new home.

Snoozn: Welcome back. I’m really glad to hear that your D is happier this semester.

Fogfog, great news about kiddo 2. Are you still going to be able to do the spring break college tour? Enjoy the gimlet, that sounds yummy haven’t had one in years!

Not much going on here, kids are all coming back for spring break, excited to have them also excited because I will have no father in law, or guests finally after 4 months!

Fogfog - I am so happy to hear that kiddo2 is home and you are feeling good about the diagnosis. Also good to hear that your mom is feeling better but I know that is still a tough situation.

Snoozn - I’m so glad to hear that your daughter has found her crowd (or crows). It just makes all the difference in the world.

DH and I leave for Texas a week from this Friday and will spend a week with DD2 and most of that time with my family. I am really getting excited about seeing them all and spending time with my baby girl.

And now for my most exciting news of the day - DD1 received her acceptance letter from her 1st choice graduate school today! She hasn’t heard if she did get one of the graduate assistantships yet - should hear about that within the next week. She still has to hear from the other two (and actually go through the interview process with one of them this weekend) but at least we now know that she WILL be going to grad school somewhere! Her final decision will depend on other acceptances and which GA jobs she is offered but this was a huge relief today for her and me.

FogFog - Happy to hear that S2 is on the mend - enjoy being home after a couple of rough nights.

Can you believe that we were all sweating it out at this time last year? It seems like all the kids are beginning to settle in and find their way.

fogfog – good catch to the attending! Hope kiddo2 continues to improve.

Good news fogfog! I’m sure you feel so much better to have both boys home safe and sound. Back to normal breathing, eh?

Welcome back snoozn!

I’m looking forward to having my son back this weekend. He has a long train/bus ride to get here but I think he’ll have enough down time during the week to recover. And hopefully work on getting a summer job too. He’s said he might bring home a classmate from California. Of course, I probably won’t know that until the day before!

My daughter is defending her grad thesis tomorrow. Good thoughts appreciated.

fogfog: So glad to hear that your son is doing better. Offering prayers for his continued recovery.

samuck: London will be a wonderful place to be this summer! Enjoy your new home!

shawbridge: Nice that you could donate money to support the research efforts of the doctor who helped your daughter. I always appreciate a doctor who will listen to what parents have to say. Good that you could help out with the diagnosis/treatment.

kathiep: Sending good thoughts your daughter’s way!

proudmomof2: Congrats on your daughter’s grad school acceptance!!

Rescuing us From page 2.

Haven’t thought much about summer. H wants S to have a really menial job in his industry. Me not so much. We are also thinking about sending him to visit/help S2 for a few weeks. We had thought 1 week, but thinking more now. Also thinking about a summer class.
We will be discussing a big major change over spring break, before classes are selected for next semester. It’s so hard to know & hard to experiment when you need to be so focused on gpa.

Fog: I hope you got a good night’s sleep and kiddo2 is feeling better today.

Proudmom: Congrats to your D on her grad school acceptance! Is this the school where her BF will be?

Kath: Good luck to your D.

Ldinct: The visit to S2 sounds like a good idea for both guys. A summer class also sounds like a good idea. A lot of kids use summer classes to lighten their load during the school year.

As for the summer…D1 is going to take two courses in Spain. She wanted to take them at her U but the school prices them in a way where it costs just about the same to send her to Spain. So she will knock off her international requirement and have some fun. The program is only 6 weeks and starts in May. She also has two part time jobs that will add up to 40+ hours when she is home. D2 also has a part time job when she is home and will be working on her college apps. She is also going on a service trip to Africa. She will be working at a school teaching English as well as providing general help in the village. The fun part is that she will have an opportunity to go on safari one weekend as well as track animals with a tribe. As one comes home, the other leaves…so DH and I are trying to figure out if we will have time and $$ to do something fun or we may wait until the fall. We will be empty nesting about 18 mo from now so if we have to wait it is no big deal.

Fogfog- hope your son continues to improve.

Good luck to all with interviews and thesis presentations.

Sounds like everyone’s kids will have totally different summer experiences.

D1 is having finals this week. She is coming home tomorrow for a doctor’s visit, then is going back to school to finish finals. She is leaving on Saturday for a trip to Germany and the Czech Republic to perform with the college chorus. She will have no time at all at home before she goes back for her final term of freshman year.

I can’t believe how quickly the time went.

fogfog: good to hear that your kid is home. Hopefully, you got a better night’s sleep last night.

proudmomof2: Great that your D got accepted into grad school! Congratulations!!

kathiep: sending good thoughts your way for the thesis defense. Guess no matter how old the kids are, moms never stop worrying :)

D’s lottery for housing is coming up soon after spring break. Apparently, one of the girls she was going to room with has dropped out of their group. They now need 3 more girls to complete the suite. She’s stressed out about that!! She actually called yesterday - wanted to talk (really hear my voice!). It was really nice - we talked about a lot of stuff and hopefully, I was able to lessen her stress a little bit. Not much I can do about the housing stuff - told her I was here if she wanted to vent :)

My daughter actually called me yesterday too. She called for advice regarding a job she had applied for and has now been called in for the interview. It was really nice as she doesn’t come to me with too many things these days so I was happy she wanted my input!

As far as next year’s housing, the on campus lottery thing sounds so confusing! But I guess the kids figure it out. Luckily my D doesn’t need to deal with this as she and 3 other girls are renting an off campus apartment. It’s a little cheaper than the dorms and it is 4 bedroom 4 bath! Crazy, right? We didn’t let her sign the lease yet as her returning is contingent upon much better grades this semester than last. But we did give her the application fee(which we’ll lose if she doesn’t move in) and she has done all other paperwork except the lease.

rescuing from lower half of page 2

Kathiep - I thought about your DD earlier today; how did her thesis examination go?

Idinct - the trip sounds like it might be good for both of your boys!

Momjr- yes, this is the school that BF wants to attend (and she does also) but he has also been accepted to law school near her #2 choice and would attend there if she chose that school. Hopefully she will hear from them soon after her interviews this weekend and we will have some resolution. I’m not too stressed anymore since at least we know she’s been accepted to at least one program.

Housing for DD2 is pretty simple; she and her friends will live in on-campus apartments which are beautiful and a little cheaper than the dorms. DD1 will live in an apartment somewhere with BF, wherever they end up, and it will be somewhat cheaper than the apartment she is in now. She’s doing her undergrad in a small town and apartments are very expensive so we know that we will get some kind of reprieve there.

On page 2 at 8 a.m. and last post was 7:49 last night. Glad we are all getting on with our lives but I miss the chatter! Glad to hear of improving Health, Grad School acceptances, Spring trips and summer internships as well as successful rooming situations for next year.

Rain is coming but sounds like its been leaving a lot of damage in its trip east. Hope you all are safe out there! Have a great day!

FogFog= very happy your son is getting the right help and hopefully the problem with your mother will be medications and changing something will make her more coherent.

Others- great to hear about summer plans, grad school acceptances, internship acceptances, jobs, etc.

We had great news here today- my son actually got a call back from one of the hundred or so online applications he filled out and after his drug test today, he will be employed. It is less than he is used to making but at least it is above minimum wage and the cost of living here is less than many places.

My d in college is not doing so well. She is still acing quizzes and things like that but her anemia symptoms are not only not getting better, they are getting worse. Now she has had periods of breathlessness and also chest pains. She went back to student health and they tried to get her a sooner appointment with the cardiologist but no luck. Apparently they think she has a wrong messaging system that is causing her to produce too little blood or maybe too little red blood cells or ???. My d said it was a long name she had never heard before and considering she was kind of woozy, she didn’t remember it. She is seeing the cardiologist at 8am on Friday and she does have excuses for classes for today and Thursday but she is still taking a test since she doesn’t want to get even further behind. Dh and I talked in one of our rare moments together and we are on the same page with this. We are waiting to hear what the cardiologist says it is and what needs to be done and how fast she will be better. Then we can make a reasonable decision about what she needs to do regarding a medical withdrawal or continuing with school.

Sorry to hear about those whose kids are ill and wishing for speedy recoveries!
Congrats to those getting jobs/internships/grad school acceptances.

Ditto here re the room lottery business. Seems very confusing to me with multiple steps and no guarantees but DS calm about it. Looking forward to seeing him in 10 days when he comes home for break and then a short hop to the end of the year. Can you believe it?
