so I completely blew the whole diet before graduation thing…

…and then summer, holidays…
and cr@p its almost 1 yr later…
however…I recently started my new training and sport…and weighed in on one of those scales that analyze fat, bone/water weight etc…
and I have gained 3 lbs muscle - swapping it for 3 lbs of fat…

so yay me

oh and the cleaning of the closets, drawers, cabinets continues…and I am going to find a “shredding” company or truck because we have OLD stuff that needs to go out–and beyond starting a bon fire (frowned upon by the establishment given the draught conditions) then shredding is the way to go… ;)

K1 will be in touch at the end of the weekend and then we will know more about classes, etc pre exams and what advisors suggest …
k2 is unhappy with status on sports team and yet it is an important life lesson and we hope that k2 will come through it well (k1 had a set back like this years ago that helped shape hard work, focus and determination. yet different kids…different circumstances…)

IDOC stuff went out registered mail today.
Taxes were filed about 10 days ago
FAFSA and Profile done

TBD many other errands…

Who is it here that is the amazing gardener and who did their yard for the grad party–(??) I need you !

Hi all, Just got back from Marathon, Brutal Heat! My husband has run in “hotter” marathons but apparently being a spring marathon and not training in the heat was a big deal. Hubby did finish 3:50 ish??? Not sure of exact numbers but way slower than he wanted. He need a 3:25 to qualify for next year and fully expected to make it but he said after the first mile he knew there was no way and that his goal was to finish. Was actually scary to watch. Girls and I were at mile 25 and saw so many people in bad shape and some actually drop and have to be carried off by medical. Son watched from a MIT Frat on Commonweatlth and Kenmore Square near BU maybe your D was there Momjr. Apparently Patriots Day is a huge deal, Harvard is the only school that does not give the kids the day off but luckily D1 did not have classes on Monday. Had a great time. Hubby did go to Medical Tent after finishing the race and scared us after he wasn’t in the family meeting area after 1 1/2 hours after we got a text from AT&T that he was done, apparently he was very dehydrated and they wouldn’t let him leave the Med tent till he was rehydrated. Ride home was good, stopped at Yale and dropped D3 off, its her last week of class and its Bull Dog Days (accepted Students days) we walked into her room and she and roommates were hosting 3 girls so we were able to meet them. Amazing weather (if you are not running). Then drove home and witnessed a bad accident (can’t find a news article but no one could have survived) Car drove under a truck and sheared the whole top of the car off! We were a only a few cars back when it happened, horrifying but thankfully we missed it. Didn’t witness enough to stop but several people did. Glad to be home! Will catch up on everyone else’s news tomorrow! Good night!

EAO, congrats to your H for finishing! I am glad he is OK. Will he be able to do any of the other qualifying events in order to run it next year?

Wow EAO!! That’s such a shame for your husband, I wonder if there will be some kind of exception granted in qualifying times for next year given the highly unusual and hazardous heat?! So glad he finished though, it’s a moral victory at least! Scary accident, those images are hard to shake when you see them…

Regarding Bulldog Days, S2 has 5 (!!!) pre-frosh staying in his suite!! Apparently they’re all sleeping in the common room, although there’s only one couch, so the poor kids must be on the floor which is carpeted with a very thin remnant…I hope this doesn’t turn them off of Yale :)

Fogfog, congrats on the muscle increase! Your new sport isn’t paddle boarding is it? I have a friend trying to get me out on one, she claims it’s amazing for one’s core, and my core could definitely use a little strengthening. I just really don’t want to fall in the water, haha!

Has anyone heard from MilitaryMom lately? Wasn’t it her daughter who was so sick and they couldn’t figure out why? They have been on my mind lately.

D called a while ago to reassure us that she is fine, assuming we had gotten an email about a freshman death on campus today. Message from her college was ‘not an accident and not foul play’. So it is presumably suicide. No one that D knows, nor anyone that any of her friends knows. Is that better or worse? It’s not a small school, but it’s not enormous. This is making me feel better about the midnight panicked phone calls. At least she knows she can talk to us and vent when she needs to. If we get the worst of her emotions, I am fine with that. That is what parents sign on for. Still no word from the University; we’ll see how they spin it. At least it was at the end of Bulldog Days.

Sadly, I did get an email about the tragedy at Yale today. Scoutson says the Frocos and
college Deans are reaching out to touch base with everyone.

I guess I am thinking that if there were any chance of a medical cause, they would be out there in front with that instead of giving all 'it wasn’t’s. But yes, so sad for the family and for all the boy’s friends.

Oh wow, to wake up to that this morning so sad! D texted me last night and I didn’t see it till this morning. I have a real estate midterm this morning and she knew I was studying. Her text said, “please call me when you are done your midterm”. Poor thing. Now I am debating do I call and wake her up?
Her Best Friend is in Davenport so she may have known the kid.

No use speculating but I am anxious to know what happened.

An apparent Suicide. Such a tragedy, such a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
My heart goes out to those parents and friends of the kids.

D did not know kid personally but from what she has heard he was an extremely social, outgoing, active and involved kid. I really don’t understand life sometimes.

This is so sad. From the letter from the dean and the YDn article, it seems so so shocking.
Haven’t heard rom k1…though today was going to be really busy and we know beyond classes and team stuff, k1 had an appt with a prof and advisor re major and fall term etc…re the partial/dif equ calc etc that is a current class and where to go from there for the fall…

I am going to send a text and see if we can connect tonight…

I may have missed some posts, not sure if this has been talked about much yet. Have your students signed up for classes for next fall yet? My d did yesterday, but she isn’t saying what she was signed up for, other then she decided to not take anatomy and physiology. She must be satisfied with her schedule, there weren’t any complaints.

We are still trying to figure out how to get d home. It is a 15 hour drive one way, maybe cheaper for me to drive down and get her than paying to store her stuff all summer and buy her an airplane ticket. I don’t want to take time off work and H is looking for a new job, if he finds one by then then he may not be able to take time off. I guess I may have to decide to just do it. grr

Very sad about the Yale student. The poor family.

D1 signed up for classes last week. She was the box office manager for a student production at the time of sign up, so she snuck out, and logged into the wireless. She was able to get all of her classes and times for alll 4 terms next year. Her FB status “That was the most stressful 3 minutes of my life.” She will be taking courses in her major and is very excited. When she was home for Easter, she had me read all of the course descriptions for her courses. If she had her way, she would sign up for classes through senior year (which she already picked out.)

S1 has signed up for all his classes for next fall. He got everything he wanted and the schedule he wanted, so he’s happy. He wasn’t trying to get into any very small classes this time so it was much less stressful than prior sign-ups.

He’s signed up for 21 credits, which seems like maybe too much, but 3 of them are basically getting credit for an EC he would be doing anyhow, and he also has 2-credit S/U class that isn’t supposed to be too much work, so hopefully it won’t be too much. (Or if it is, hopefully he will be willing to admit it to himself and drop something.)
