This thread has been quiet. S is home this week for spring break. He has a Skype interview with the scholarship/financial aid folks at one of hit top law school choices tomorrow. I hope he is articulate and persuasive and is able to earn a nice scholarship and/or grant for next year. He is definately undecided but will most likely go to one of the 4 top rated schools he is accepted at based on the overall financial picture. His results to date are 12 acceptances, 1 wait list, 1 rejection and 1 yet to notify of their decision. I think he is more stressed out about this decision than he is about his senior thesis and graduation that is only 9 weeks from this Saturday! Talk about the need for the SS Indecision!
I’ll add a little bit of news. ShawD starting her training at her new job, took a couple of tests at school, then left for spring break in Puerto Rico with two friends. Has to be back for the weekend when she will do the next bit of training. She is pleased, almost surprised that she is getting an adult-level salary (she’s only working part-time as she is in school).
My college girl is on spring break- Grand Canyon/ Sedona and finishing in Vegas. I predict after a day she will hate Vegas. Next year she will be working and I am sure will miss those spring break vacations.
I need to pin her down on graduation plans when she gets back. Since she is also graduating with her Masters she has the option of multiple ceremonies to attend. I told her to pick 2. We need to get reservations for lunch, hoping I am not too late on this one. If so, I guess i will bring some nice lunch food and we can eat at her place.
How can 4 years have passed so quickly?
My girl has Spring Break next weekend. She is playing tourist in her college town.
She found out recently she was accepted to a Doctorate program in California and it is fully funded! She is very excited! Graduation is in 11 weeks and I have Hotel reservations but need to make airline reservations.
^^
Four years has gone by so quickly:)
D is in Florida with Habitat for Humanity, helping build houses. And enjoying the sun!! 2 months to go for graduation - we have a house booked and my tickets are booked! Still have to figure out a way to get S to come, but that’s H’s headache!
Neighbor’s D is also graduating - just heard that she would like to go to China next year - might join a non-profit. Neighbor and I were wondering where the four years went too!
Dropped S off at the airport for an early flight back to school this morning. He called late this afternoon to say he had gotten a call from his last law school and that he has been accepted to Penn. His results are now 13-1-1 with the one hold or wait list still a possibility. He is now scheduling several law school admitted student visits and trying to make time in his schedule to finish a couple of class projects and a 30 page senior thesis with graduation just a couple of months away. He says he has shortened the most likely list to 4 or 5 schools. It appears that he will have to make a decision by mid-April as the law school deadlines vary a bit by school. He expects the balance of his financial aid offers within the next two weeks. It feels like we are already onboard the SS Indecision.
Congrats to AvonHSSon and Dad.
2 months to go for graduation day! Kind of hard to believe…
D will be home after that for close to two months before heading out for her job. This will be the first time she’s been home for this long after high school graduation! And probably will be the last time she’s home for this long!
arisamp- That brought a tear! May 8th is graduation for D1. D2 graduates HS 2 weeks later. We leave for a big family vacation May 25th. We are thinking this may be our last with both girls for many years. We return Mid June and D will be moving to NY the next week. Going to be a busy May/ June.
On the ss indecision with d2, but I have a strong suspicion where she will pick!
I knew it was too good to last D sent me an email - she and her friend want to go to Europe for two weeks during the summer. So, she really won’t be home for two months!
I haven’t posted on this thread in more than 2 years but now that the end is so near - time for an update. S graduates at the end of May but his classes finish up in about 4 weeks. Then a week break and he goes back for short term until graduation. He is not taking a class but can stay on campus because he has a job there. Then a week after he graduates he starts work at a Fortune 200 company in Boston. He gets a free apartment for 9 weeks included in his relocation package - which will give him plenty of time to find a place - most likely with friends already in Boston or friends who will be moving there. He has had a fantastic 4 years at Bates and all his hard work appears to have paid off for him. We couldn’t be prouder.
Congrats to all the other High School Class of 2011 on graduating and much success to all of them in the future.

@emilybee - Congrats to your son on graduation and the new job. It sounds like a great adventure as our 2011ers begin the next phase of their lives.
Congrats to all those with good news! I haven’t stopped by in awhile either but came by to share the news that D just got a job offer today! Ironically, she was supposed to hear yesterday and didn’t, making it a painfully long, stressful day. She woke up to an email from another company asking for an interview and then a few hours later, the offer came through! She’s almost positive that she’s going to take the offer and not pursue the other company but she wants to take a day or two to make the decision and also to decide if she’ll try to negotiate any of the terms (honestly, it’s a very fair package). New job is based in DC --'great place for a young professional! I guess I have to accept that my ‘kid’ really is an adult!
Congratulations @collage1 and @emilybee!! It’s wonderful to hear of all these kids having such concrete plans for next year!
I love coming on here and hearing the good news! For most of us, the next few weeks are the home stretch! My son’s new job won’t start until September and even then he has two weeks of training in NYC before moving to Seattle. He’s decided to stay in VT for the summer and will work full time for a couple of months for the same company he’s been working for since summer after sophomore year. I would prefer he come home but really his friends and his life have been in VT for the last few years so I understand. He’s joining us for a family vacation out west and a few weeks before the big move, so that will be good. This sure was a speedy four years!
Congrats to both college1 and walkinghome’s kids on their new jobs.
I think our kids are also very lucky to be graduating into a rapidly improving job market.
Congrats to all on the great news. DS has finally gotten an acceptance to medical school! He is likely to get at least one other acceptance, but is happy to know he’s definitely going to med school. He applied to 20 schools, got interviews at 5 and ended up on 4 waitlists, until the one acceptance. He’s pretty sure that a second one will come through. He’s hoping for a third one–his top choice originally. So we may be boarding SS Indecision 2015, which is a very happy thing in this case!
Congrats to AvonHSDad’s DS with his amazing acceptances for law school. Good luck with going through the financial packages. That’s one thing we have been lucky to avoid since DS has sold his sole to the company store–Uncle Sam is footing the bills as DS has always wanted to be a career military doc.
I can’t believe 4 years have flown by. I’m glad we are coming back to share good news. DS2 is graduating HS and will be attending college locally. He’s got his thriving balloon twisting business and wants to stay local with all his connections and recurring events.
We have a graduation family trip planned for July but that will depend on DS1’s final choice. One of his choices requires training that will take most of the summer, so he will miss the trip (and DS2’s graduation ). Luckily all is options are fairly local (furthest is about 3 hours away) so at least we can still see him on a regular basis (if he’s not buried in study materials).
My DD received a decent job offer that matches her interest today. She will work in NYC. I can’t wait to attend her graduation in third week of May.
Happy to hear the good news from your kids! DD is on the five year plan. She has had ups and downs but is doing well. We’re happy for her and proud. It’s amazing how fast these years are flying by.
Congrats to everyone!
