Congrats to the future doctors!
Congrats to your D. I agree she should wait for all of her school decisions so she can make the best choice for her. S did that with his law schools acceptances and it benefited him in the end. This is much different than 5 years ago when we were all living through our kids undergrad application process.
D’s case is the same as bajamm’s d. She has a couple of acceptances and is waiting to hear back from a few other interviews. So, decision is likely going to have to wait until early next year. Congrats @bajamm !!
I hope neither you nor bajamm have to wait and end up on the SS Indecision 2.0 !!!
@AvonHSDad - I so remember that cruise a little over four years ago! That was torture for the most part - but this one, I think will be easier! And I am just watching the cruise ship from the shore this time around
I happened to visit DS’s school site here on CC as the 15th was their EA announcement day. I had forgotten about all of the worry, pain and anxiety that the HS senior applicants are going through right now. I will be the first to readily admit I don’t miss those days at all! DS checked in this evening and said the 8 hour final he had today was the most difficult exam he has yet to encounter. He said he is wiped out from it. There were two questions/cases along with a 4,000 word limit which he said he hit. He is flying to Chicago on Friday to spend a few days with his girlfriend and they are then driving home on Tuesday or Wednesday for Christmas.
@arisamp - The only cruise that I will be on going forward is one where AvonMom and I are relaxing passengers on the pool deck with a frozen drinks in our hands and the kids are in school!
@AvonHSDad - saying I am going to watch the cruise ship from the shore might have been a bit premature. D has a few acceptances to med school and needs to figure out where she’s headed. S is doing very well in his EA acceptances so far (including the one where your S went!) - he’s batting a 100. Different offers from full tuition to no merit aid. His decision process is going to be a tough one. March/April in my house might require a lot of frozen drinks
It sounds like a very busy spring. If there is any solace, it is that you’ve been here before (at least with the undergrad decisions) and that experience counts. You know what frozen drinks you like so grab one and start evaluating the great choices that both D and S have for the next chapter in their lives. If you have any questions about the Hilltop, let me know and I will do my best to try and answer.
Well, not sure if I’m bringing up the cow’s tail (an old country saying for “being last” ) but DS is well and truly graduating in May after five years. He’s had a part-time job the past several months with a very well respected and growing company and has been offered full-time after graduation. We are encouraging him to do it; knowing he has a job really takes a load off our minds.
But first … AvonHSDad, you will appreciate this! … we are going on a cruise to celebrate his graduation. Headed off to Europe on RCCL. Younger DS will miss the last three days of eighth grade, but somehow, I don’t think he’s going to mind!
I still check in to this CC every day; it’s nice to read the Financial Aid forum and think 'Yippee, I don’t have to do FAFSA this year!"
Yay!!! I am sure there are plenty of kids on the 5+ years track. Life can be a bendy road. Congrats on the job offer, I hope he is enjoying his last semester. A cruise sounds like the perfect way to celebrate!
@cgpm59 Congratulations! He graduate and will have a job! Nothing better than that.
Congratulations on the impending graduation and job offer. Nothing beats cruising, especially when it is not the SS Indecision!! Sounds like a great way to celebrate together as a family and see some of the world at the same time. RCCL has some great ships and itineraries in Europe. You are sure to have a wonderful experience and a lot of memories. The best thing for you is no more FAFSA. I am working on our second last year. I cannot wait to be done with these miserable forms!!
Since I am on the forum this evening I will post an update regarding DS. As I posted last fall, he is now a 1L at Duke Law. He is busting his backside and doing reasonably well. He participated in mock trial this winter and was one of 19 1L students out of the class of 225 to be selected to the national mock trial team. He is quite excited about being selected. This summer he will spend four weeks in Silicon Valley with his group of 10 who are in the Business Law and Entrepreneurialship program. They will work with a mix of start-up firms and new evolving firms in the tech and related fields. The balance of the summer is still undetermined. He has several apps out but half summer intenrships for 1L’s are far and few between. His fallback is that there is a incubator program in the Research Triangle area that his school participates in and everyone in his group has the option to intern there for the balance of the summer. That will end in late July as the law school OCI program (On Campus Interviews) begins in early August. That program is for full-time 2L summer associate internships that nearly always lead to a full-time offer following graduation. He is working very hard but he says it is worth it in the long run based on all of the options an opportunities that are available to him.
@cpgm59, you’re not bringing up the cow’s tail. DD is graduating Physics major/math minor in June. Still job hunting, eyes on grad school in a few years.
D now has two acceptances to med schools for this fall. She has decided to attend our instate one, likely doing a joing MD/MPH program. The plan right now is to become a pediatrician, possibly going on to becoming a pediatric pulmonologist. She is sooo happy, so I am happy for her!
bajamm
Fantastic news.Congrats to your d.
Great news @bajamm - congratulations!! Met an old school friend last month who happens to be a pediatric pulmonologist! Good luck to her…
I guess we will have indecision about where to live when ShawD graduates. She can probably move anyplace, but is stumbling a finish as she caught pneumonia over spring break of her final semester. So, she is having to pack in her clinical work on top of classes and her job. She’ll get there and still hasn’t had anything below A- since she started the nursing/nurse practitioner program, but she is getting weary (5 years with no classes every summer plus jobs all 5 years plus clinical placements). She’ll have to pass the licensure exam within a month after graduation because I’ve purchased her tickets to SE Asia for 3 months – she is going with her best friend/study buddy and one other. When she returns, her current employer is happy to keep her on part-time as an RN while she is looking for an NP job. She’s thinking Portland, Oregon or Boston. But, she’s just too tired to really think about what’s next.
DS is only one exam away from completing his 1L year of law school. He can’t wait.
Also, today is the day for this year’s HS seniors and their families to be disembarking from the SS Indecision!!
I’ve been back on CC for a bit now that my 2nd D is a HS junior (and next year S will be a junior – I may not have any brain function left by spring 2018. It’s really great to see the occasional updates trickle in on this thread!
Anyone else going to have a sixth year senior next year? No, no one? I think she is actually going to graduate next spring with majors in integrative physiology and dance. Then on to physical therapy school hopefully. Because you just can’t have too much school!
