Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - New beginnings

Nice phone chat with DD last night. She is upbeat with one exam and one paper to go. Will be home Friday night!

We were so proud of S last night. H asked him if he needed to do laundry. He said he had done it the night before, because he thought if his suitcase was filled with both clean clothes and dirty clothes, the clean clothes wouldn’t stay so fresh. Who is this kid?

^^^Middle son told us last night on the phone that he was planning to do laundry before he came home. I told him it didn’t matter - that we could just do it once he was home, but he insisted on doing it first so we wouldn’t have to worry about getting it done that first day or two.

He is really going to make someone a nice spouse someday…

To all with kids bringing home laundry: at least you know your kid is clothed at college. ;)

Well…at least it meant he was clothed the first two weeks…that is something I guess.

Hi all. I haven’t posted since we dropped ds off in August! He’s at the airport now and hopefully the snow in Colorado and here won’t delay his flight. We haven’t seen him in four months and I can’t wait!!!

All in all, he’s had a decent first semester. Because he’s on the block plan, he only had one final yesterday. He already has his grades for the first three blocks and he did really well, so we’re pleased for him. This block was a lot tougher, so he’s not sure how he did. Either way, we know he blew away my DH’s and my first semester college grades.

Seven hours to go, but who’s counting? Okay, ME! I’m counting!

Hope all the kids that are still finishing up and then traveling home do well and have safe travels!

DS is returning tonight after his last final of first semester  He has made plans to teach a class at his former high school when he returns. And, in January the high school holds an Alumni Day luncheon where current seniors meet with alumni to discuss what first semester at college is like as well as ask any questions they may have.

Today’s THE day for us! It feels weird to not be prepping for school…

Should I mention that kiddo got a C in my dream last night in the class he neglected to tell us he was taking? He’ll probably get a laugh about that… but I suppose it goes to show how much MY brain is stressed out over his finals. I never stressed this way with oldest (and he does have a C or two). I think it’s just due to knowing the competition for med school and knowing that’s been middle son’s desire since he was in 3rd grade… Like any mama, I want to see him be successful in the path he wants.

I do wonder WHY I dream that he messes up though… I want the dream where he’s curing cancer or alzheimers… or simply telling me how to get rid of that bum knee. ;)

It isn’t supposed to snow in NYC and Detroit is only expecting minimal snow (less than an inch), but I really hope this winter storm across the mid-section of the country doesn’t somehow affect my D’s travels home tomorrow. Her dorm closes at 9 am so she will have to camp out at the airport if things are delayed.

My son got home last night about 10:15pm. No problems with his flight or transportation. He looks very thin but good. Now I have 3 1/2 weeks to try to get some meat on his bones! I expect that he will sleep until mid afternoon, especially since he was up past 2AM playing the Xbox.

S is home! He seems happy and relieved. He did bring a huge duffle of dirty clothes … Claimed he didn’t do laundry the last two weeks to leave time for studying. Good thing he had more than 14 pairs of boxers and socks, thank you to Hanes.

When I got up today, I saw three cars in our driveway, which means there are at least 4 skiers in my house about to enjoy a nice Vermont ski day once they get up.

Both my kids have been back to visit HS. D1 went at end of day and D2 went during advisory period. I mentioned to them they should sign in in light of recent events. D1 is going back today to teach the post AP Latin class, she was preparing last night.

Sent from my DROID2 using CC

Today begins the endless rounds of doctor, dentist optometrist rounds for DS. We were smart to make the appointments, but he is sulking about losing a day or two to this!

Still, poor kid lost his filling, so the dentist would have happened regardless.

SA and gf put up our Yule tree last night, so the house has a nice glow. I wondered how long it would take to adjust to having an extra body in the house, but it hasn’t been a problem. He seems to be adapting quite well, though he is texting his pledge brothers quite a bit. I have noticed that he is not really hanging out with his hs best friend…seems this semester really did drive a wedge in their friendship. In truth, I always knew he would outgrow him.

Grades are back and they are great.

Mine went to HS (local public, where she attended 9th & 10th) yesterday afternoon. She e-mailed a teacher ahead of time to see whether there were any new security procedures and was told no. She slipped in a door without registering. She was in at least 5 teachers’ rooms. She said she did have a conversation with a group of students about the fact that it was so easy for her to enter the school.

D visited her HS over the Thanksgiving break, but they’re done for the semester. I think she’s going to visit again the first week back (which is a sort of crazy, free-for-all time there) and sleep on her sister’s floor for a night. Fine by me.

Everyone is done for the semester here, but my HS sophomore has a paper due by Sunday, and a concert tonight. For some reason, my anxiety level is through the roof, but I have no idea why.

Sorry for the anxiety, IJustDrive!! Such a busy time of year.

Mine has been invited back to receive the IB diploma today afternoon (waking up seems to be the problem with 3 PM wakeups) and there may not be any others around since it is a finals testing period during mornings only at the moment.

Parents have also been invited but have been vetoed from attending. As my green blinkers say, “I have much to be proud of”.

My guy is back now - though just left to get his eyeglasses fixed and will get a hair cut (his desire) afterward. I’m glad he beat the storm even though it’s just supposed to be rain here. The drive home from the airport and lunch seemed to go by in a flash. It feels good to have him home!

I hope left over finals and travels go well for everyone. Enjoy the holidays!

I keep checking the weather and the snow is supposed to happen up north on Friday. My S comes home Sat on the bus so hoping the snow will be over. Not supposed to snow by us so at least they will be driving away from it.

Its great to hear more of the 2016 kids are home. I wish safe and non delayed travels for those that are still coming home.

D had a great visit at her HS yesterday. Met up with some friends and then had lunch with some of her fomer church youth group friends.
