Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - New beginnings

My guy actually chose to be a DLion over being a Fellow. He was concerned that the other would require more of his time and he wants to be active in the lab plus will be taking Orgo and working at his job. But he loves freshmen and wanted to be there to help them out too… DLion has the least time required while still allowing something (or at least, that’s what he told me).

As a mom, I hope he gets a good hall! There seems to be a bit of variance.

My D is also waiting on the SYE lottery. Looks like we’re in competition! Her alternative is to join another group of friends who already have a quad, but need a fourth. So if she doesn’t get SYE, and if that fourth spot isn’t snapped up by somebody else, that’s where she’ll end up. So many “ifs,” so many phone calls. mom60’s son is looking like a dream child to me about now.

D has found a group to room with for next year. Housing doesn’t actually happen until after spring break.

She also got 2 offers for the summer today. She’s been getting lots of rejections, so it was nice to get some offers!

Congrats on the summer offers, IJustDrive!

The mood just noticeably lightened around here.

D has had a pretty miserable Spring Break. It started with the car accident and she spent the last two days in bed with a migraine. I ended up taking to her ER and they gave her the headache cocktail through an IV. They did a CT scan to make sure it wasn’t related to the accident but it wasn’t. She’d had a headache on and off for about a week but it really knocked her out yesterday and today. Poor thing.

(((hugs))) 2016BarnardMom

So sorry, 2016BarnardMom. Maybe it’s a silver lining she wasn’t trying to study/attend classes with the migraine? Not much fun though.

S returns to school tomorrow on an early flight, which means I will be getting up very early to drive him to the airport! It’s been nice having him home, but it will likely be his only spring break home. The choir tours internationally every other year, and he plans to study abroad his junior year.

Barnardmom sorry to hear that.

What a lousy spring break. Sorry.

Sorry for the health issue BarnardMom. I hope she feels better soon!

My daughter’s spent a pretty chilled-out spring break. She visited a friend in DC for a few days, then had a few days back at school. She went into Boston last night to spend time with a friend and go contra dancing. Today, it’s a bookstore visit and the ballet before going back to school so she’ll be in town for Palm Sunday services tomorrow.

Sorry it’s been so rough, BarnardMom! At least she’s home so you can take care of her, right?

Sophomore housing is resolved. :relief: ← should be an emoticon :D

To top things off, I went online to check BarnardGirl in for her flight, pay for her baggage fee and print her boarding pass. I put in the confirmation number and it said there was no information available. I double checked the email I’d received and discovered that when I booked her flight, I scheduled her to go back to NYC last Sunday instead of tomorrow. OMG!!! I just paid $200 for her to fly home tomorrow on another airline.

I’m not having a good week. How did I do that???

When it rains, it pours 2016 BMom.

Our DD just returned to school. It was wonderful and peaceful having her home. She got to see DS’14’s spring musical, got a new cell phone, watched a few movies, etc. All in all . . . pretty chill.

Our housing saga has reached a happy conclusion, too. D got lucky in the SYE lottery. She’ll have a roommate she doesn’t know (at least not yet–Facebook will take care of that soon), but she’s fine with that. Home now for a week! Yay!

She is safely back in NYC and is going to get some more sleep since we got up at 3:30 to get her on her 6 am flight. I let her boyfriend spend the night on our couch and he came with us to the airport. He’s back here sleeping again because they were up quite late and I was worried about him driving the hour back to his school on one hour sleep. He and the dog are sleeping on the couch together. So cute! He’s a really nice young man. He’s the kind of young man you want your daughter to bring home :)

S also got into a special interest floor so he can avoid the lottery. He texted that this floor is so nerdy, he’ll be the cool kid for the first time in his life.

We didn’t catch up on our usual weekly call, but I talked to him earlier in the week. In typical kid fashion on the way to the airport he mentioned to hubby about some issues with the girlfriends parents. It’s amazing to me how some parents can be so harsh and do it my way or I’ll pull tuition from you. He also gets, if she doesn’t learn to stand up to them over time, it won’t work out for them.

Barnardmom happy that things are finally working out. That plane ticket episode was awful!! My daughter still has to figure out housing for next year. Hopefully this week it will get settled.

Barnardmom - sorry to hear about spring break - glad your D made it back safely though (albeit with some last minute rushing!).

Eyemamom - glad your guy snagged the housing he wanted!

We’re on a snow delay here at home… UGH! If school closes it means our year gets extended a day in June. Last year we had oodles of flowers and blooms by now. I will grudgingly admit it’s very pretty outside right now though. The snow is clinging to everything giving it a picture perfect calendar look. It’d just be nicer to have seen this in Jan or Feb.

We also missed middle son’s weekly call yesterday as he called when we were picking up youngest from a weekend at the beach with friends. At least they beat the snow and the two hour delay is giving him some sleep in time.

May those of you still dealing with housing have it work out decently! (And I’m envying those of you who don’t have to worry about delays/closings.)
