Oldfort: Great story re D2 standing up, not only for herself, but also for all the others that worked so hard to pull off the charity event. Brains, guts and organizational skills . . . send her resume. I want to hire her!

glido - don’t speak too soon…

Oldfort - your D is definitely showing a maturity many don’t have - at any age. That’s worth a whole lot… and can cover many faults.
Kudos to her!

My middle and youngest also blossomed a bit after their respective older brother left home. It’s been great to see.

Congrats Geogirl! Nice how it turned out. I think sometimes it’s just hard for them to say “no” to the “second” choice.

All those of you whose kids won’t be around this summer, I’m jealous! My daughter doesn’t drive so and we live at least 3 miles from anywhere so whenever she needs to be somewhere, guess how she has to get there? After one year without it, I’m really not looking forward to being mommy chauffeur this summer. She’s talking about getting her license this summer but even then I won’t feel comfortable allowing her to drive all over. We do have a car for her, it’s her sister’s who is moving into the city so we’ll have it sitting here, but it will still be a while until I’ll be comfortable with her driving on these roads up here.

She’s working at her nursery school camp which is from 9-12 so in many ways it will be like she’s in nursery school again, with me having to be available to take her and drop her off. She wants to take two classes this summer (not for credit) so I’m trying to arrange for them to be in the city so she’ll just have to get back and forth from the train station. If she wasn’t working at 9 in the morning she could even stay with her sister but that’s not an option. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted, but she MUST get her license this summer!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my daughter and enjoy her company, I’ve just gotten a little selfish this year being an empty nester, and I like it. I wouldn’t mind her working somewhere that requires her to live there and we would just go visit two or three times over the summer.

Yay! I’m glad we have another UR kid on our thread! Glad to hear it, geogirl!

oldfort - good for your daughter. She handled it very well.

oldfort – Sounds like the proverbial acorn didn’t fall too far from the tree. :)

Wonderful (and appropriate) response by your DD – OldFort. Thanks for sharing that story!

Congrats, geogirl1!

Thanks everyone!

Oldfort - your daughter ROCKS! Good for her. Doing the right thing wins again! Yeah!

Nice story, oldfort. Hope your D2 has a great summer.

To paraphrase D “She is 3/4 of the way done.” She has her 1 final tomorrow-- other classes had papers/projects due.

One more week of classes, 2 papers, 2 exams and freshman year is in the rear view mirror!

Classes are done for my guy. Only 3 exams. Then we’re heading to Niagara Falls for a quick celebration before he starts his lab job. It’s been years since I’ve been to NF, so the weather had better be nice!

The grades for the semester are in…moving into a better environment can improve everything around you-including grades! Since the RM stress was no longer an issue, S had a much better go around this time.

I am very proud of how hard he has worked this past year!!! He is pretty proud too and now that first year is under his belt.

Has anyone seen the Target commercial where it shows kids reactions to their college acceptances? Makes me tear up every time!! To all of you with kids getting done this week…yea!!! Enjoy!

You mean this one

Glad to hear your son had a better semester. Mine is down to one final on Monday, then he’ll be home for the summer. Has already looked into 2 summer job options. First year done, 3 more to go.

My guy called yesterday morning excited because the person running the lab he didn’t choose called him still wanting him even if just for the summer. So, he’ll be doing two lab jobs at U Roc this summer, then cutting back to one for the school year. He’s happy. I’m excited for him. One week from today we hope to be visiting…

Congrats Creekland! Sounds like a wonderfully productive summer. out daughter got a job in a law firm… She insists on assuring us that she does not want to go to law school. We are just happy to know that she will earn a little this summer. :)

I got teary eyed at the Dell computer commercials back in the early fall. Showed a boy opening up his on line acceptance, then it had a flash back to when he was little, followed by the boy waving goodbye to his parents after they brought him to school. There are songs on the radio that still make me cry. Mine is coming home on the 14th. She is taking an on line psych class and will be working at camp. I am looking forward to seeing all of her friends again!

In less than 2 weeks S will be home. He has a place to live next year, he has classes for next year, and has made plans for summer storage. He even has a summer job lined up!

This year has gone by very quickly!

Hi everyone - it has been a while since I checked in here! My dd’s first year at Towson Univ. is almost over! Last couple of days of classes this week and then finals and then cheer tryouts and she will be home! She’s had a pretty good year! Gets along great with her roommate and will be living with her and two other girls in an off campus apartment next year! She got dropped out of a stunt in cheering practice in January and has been going to pt since and has been unable to compete but Towson cheerleaders won their division at the NCA college nationals and she will be out there next year! A little drama here at home in March - our house was broken into by a young man and he spent 7 minutes in my dd’s room - we caught him on our video cameras but don’t have resolution to it yet - very creepy! The police and we feel that my dd was the target - the question i want answered other than who it was is whether it is my dd personally or something in her room - we did not find anything missing or anything left in her room and nothing in our house was stolen. I can’t believe that this first year of college went by so fast! I hope that all of your kids have had a great year!

Karen

Ok, that would creep me out, Karen… I hope you get answers soon.

Otherwise… glad her year went well (aside from the cheering accident)!
